plain and simple my pc is old. im running a hp compaq dx2000mt with all default parts. I'd rather upgrade it then buy a new computer, but i need to know what kind of video cards i can safely put into my pc. I want something that will help me play basic mmorpgs, so i need something like nVidia GeForce FX 5200 or ATI Radeon 9600 or nVidia GeForce FX 5700 or ATI Radeon X 1600. Now ive seen these on ebay and they range from under 50$ which im okay with. but i need to know whether or not my motherboard will support these, if the default power supply can support these, and all in all will it just work. Now I'm itching for a Sony Vaio with a smaller screen size (I've been lugging around a 15.4") even though my current computer is in good condition, runs great, and has only suffered minor wear and tear. Open Question: Windows 7 corrupt on my brand new laptop..why?

so i bought an HP dv7-3165dx and 3 weeks later i had to take it to best buy because it crashed. today, best buy called and told me that the OS was corrupt. HOW?! all i had on there was a notepad file i took from my XP desktop and some photos i took from the webcam. the webroot spysweeper was working and up to date, so no viruses. now my poor file and photos are being erased as we speak! it was only 3 WEEKS OLD! why did windows 7 become corrupt?i never turned it off forcefully in its 3 week life span! yes im gonna emphasize 3 weeks because it cost me 1,000 to buy!! i treated the thing like a baby and never put it on a soft surface or anything.i bought an accidental coverage to add to hp's included warranty just so i have a backup if hp or best buy acts iffy with me. it's a shame that this happens to people who spend their hard earned cash on computers when the company can't take the time or money out to build them right the FIRST time! more

HI! I am just wondering, i have bought a laptop back in early october 2008. In the first month so towards the end of october beginning of November the laptop keyboard the letter I fell off. it was sent away and 2 wks later i got it back. Then in in late november the hard drive had failed. and the laptop kept switching off. It was sent away and i got it back after 1 month and half in its repair centre. I had demanded a refund but the company refused me and were some very rude people. After i received the laptop back about two weeks after that the laptop had started to shut down it appeared it kept over heating. The laptop was always laid flat on the the table and the vent was not blocked. When i called back and demanded a refund they refused and i was told to run a test and that they would call me back in 2 hrs (that's how long the test took) no one ever called back. When i called back i had a guy answer and i told him i was very disappointed and told him my problem he ran me through they're website to download some program :-S. I told him i wanted them to fix it he than told me ok, if we take it in and theres nothing wrong with it you will have to pay us. They took my laptop again in december and there was a part on back order i received the laptop back. I had to go overseas and took my laptop with me and no surprise it was shutting down randomly again over heating and the battery is horrible it only lasts about 30min without the charger. By the time i had returned from overseas my warranty was over. and it went into extended warranty. The company i bought the laptop from took in the laptop and had it with them for 2 months because a "part" was on back order again and wasn't immediately available. I had asked the lady what would happen if it kept over heating and shutting down again, wanted a refund or replacement as it has spent almost more time in a repair center than it has in my hands.I have read 3 repairs and u have the right to a refund/replacement and i told her it had been in the repair with HP 3 times and she said we have nothing to do with them and as far as we are concerned this is the first time in our repair centre- She also said unfortunately we would have to find different options. and what do u know its been a month and 2 weeks since iv had the laptop back and it is shutting down again. Its not being held on a pillow or on my lap, it is always on my table with nothing around it. What are my rights? my extended warranty ends in october this year. and i know its going to break down again. How do i get a replacement when this product is obviously faulty. I have 1 yr warranty and 1 year extended warranty. so far all up my laptop has spent about 5 months in repair. PLEASE HELP!!! more

Open Question: BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!!!!!! HELP?!?!?!?

So my computer is brand new. I just bought an HP laptop about a month ago. On the 11th of March, we started getting a blue screen with a technical error on it. It has a bunch of numbers which I do not know what they mean. The laptop will crash if you have been on the internet, if you are chatting, if you are listening to music, basically anything. We talked to a guy at HP for 4 hours to fix it and it still crashes. We have done a recovery and created the discs to fix it and yet it still crashes. I have a Nikon D90 and have been debating on doing some long light night photography (taking shots of stars and capturing their movement across the sky) and I was wondering if there was any freeware out there that allowed me to control my camera directly from my computer. Hello. It seems my normal (desktop, not this laptop) computer has stopped working. I was playing a video game when the screen went black and went back to normal 1 second later, and a little information bubble appeared and stated that a graphics driver or something failed but restarted successfully, however I am not sure on the wording. The next day it did the same thing. The day after that it stopped working all together. I can get to Boot options, pick which safe mode i want to run, or how I want to restore my system, but I cannot get to normal windows at all. But the screen stays black. It will seem to try and start up for about 30 seconds, shuts down and then starts back up on it's own, then do that same thing over and over. Yesterday I got it to turn on after it did that for about 10 minutes almost. Is this maybe a fixable issue or maybe I just need to replace a part? I've just bought a new HP Compaq 610 Laptop. But, the DVD-RW is too slow. I need 30 minutes to copy full DVD on my hard disc drive, and 2 hours to burn a full DVD. How do I transfer my Windows XP sp3 OS to new used Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934 with nonworking cdrom? I recently purchased a used Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934 laptop computer, but apparently its Operating System was completely wiped from it. And the seller did NOT include any cds or os with it. Not even the serial # sticker. Apparently it originally came with Windows Vista, which I do not want. I have Windows XP sp3 on my desktop computer which I bought a little less than one year ago which I have serial # to. Someone mentioned I can install my XP os from my HP desktop to my Toshiba laptop, but a computer guy who was going to do so said when he tried to load xp drivers it would not load from the dvd/cd rom drive. He thinks the cd/dvd drive is not working, and that it is not possible to load the os and drivers ( from where ) through a usb flash drive. Is this true? Or can I download drivers from ? to my usb flashdrive and load the files via usb drive into Toshiba laptop to somewhere to load XP os? How does this work?I bought it so should be able to install it on my own computers. not be held hostage by os mafia more

Hello, I am looking to purchase a mini laptop and get rid of my bulky dell. I was checking out HP's, but want more opinions. I use my laptop to browse the web, play with photos, edit videos, watch and burn dvds, and download music. Any suggestions? Would like to stay around $200-$450 more

Open Question: how can i speed up my laptop? (fairly new laptop)?

Okay with my Christmas money i bought this cheap laptop from the black friday sales i got a hold of this terrific laptop for the price of 400$ the specs are 2.2GHz 3Gb RAM Windows 7 home premium 64 bit 160GB hard drive (might upgrade later to 1 T or 500) with a windows rating of 3.4 (windows desktop areo being the lowest) how can i speed this laptop up? i seem to feel that its not giving me all the power it has to offer? ive defraged i did MSconfig and made nothing startup at login ran a AVG anti virus scan no bloatware left on it i dont know what els to do? could it be like windows 7 is just to memory hogging? would a downgrade to vista or XP fix this? i really dont know what els to do? This is a HP laptopi had a old laptop with a 1.6GHz single core and on XP and ran about this speed (this laptop is a single core to i dont think i could upgrade that) more

Open Question: So confused on which to chose! PLEASE... help?

So I'm in desperate need of a new computer; mostly because mine can't handle iTunes and the like. Every time I get on my computer crashes, blue screen, crying and whining, it's not pretty. So I've been surfing the internet for a new computer, and I'd usually look into an HP laptop or something other than a Mac, but I've come to a very large stump. I have some apple appliances, and it's been a nightmare trying to update them with my current comp. So, first question, which one should I get? Will there be anything new coming up? I am really leaning towards a MacBook, is there anything I should know? Are there Accessories or software I'd have to purchase after I buy IT? What about the new iPad? Resolved Question: I bought a new toshiba satellite L555D-S7005 notebook for my son and?

I already had an HP Photosmart c8100 all in one series printer.... (which we used on his old toshiba laptop and I still use on my toshiba laptop) both are wireless.... but i cannot connect the two because my HP printer says it is for windows 2000, xp and vista (which is fine for my laptop and the laptop my son had previously) the new laptop has windows 7 is there a way around this....... surly there must be some way to connect these.... the hp printer is only about a yr and 1/2 old and works great.... i cannot aford to buy a new printer after buying my son this new laptop... any advise beside a new printer? thank you more
