Hi I was just wondering if someone could help me. I have been having some problems getting my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop to hold a charge. I replaced both the battery and the charger thinking that might be the problem but it wasn't so. I sent my laptop to a computer repair company whom I have my warranty through a while ago for the same problem...they sent it back fixed. Now after a couple of months of it working fine it's doing the same thing again which started just about a week ago...not holding a charge. Dell laptop Inspiron 1501 will connect with Ethernet cable but now I can't get it to connect wireless. This laptop has been wireless at a few hotels and worked fine. Netgear Router at home works because my other laptop (Asus) connects fine. I talked to my dsl provider and they said it looks like I'm missing something and to call Dell. Called Dell and they want $50 to talk to me. I'm not employed right now so that's out of the picture. On the task bar (lower right) says my connection is excellent But IE says I have no connection. I posted a question on here a few days ago about my current laptop. I installed the new Windows updates and turned off my computer to let them start installing. The next morning, I restarted my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1501) and it went to this black screen that said "Sorry for the inconvenience..." and gave me options such as safe mode and start normally. Safe mode freezes at mup.sys everytime and when I run it normally, it goes to the blue screen and I get a 0x0000007e error stop code. So I have no clue what it going on. I'm a girl, not good with computers, so I am preparing for the worst, which is to get another laptop.. I am thinking a Macbook?? Any suggestions. I will not get a Dell again. I have had nothing but problems with it. Also, if anyone knows this, can I recover any of my files? I have so many memories on that computer, pictures, homework, etc. I know I should have backed it all up, but again, I am stupid and never thought this would happen. Thanks so much! more

Resolved Question: Is IE8 out of Beta form yet?

When IE8 first came out, it was in Beta form. Using Windows Update, I successfully upgraded to the newer version of IE. The problem I had was this; my eyesight isn't what it used to be and I have to set the text size to "Large". From my browser page, I'd click View, Text Size, Large. This worked with older IE7 but not IE8, so I downgraded back to IE7. This has brought a slew of new problems with some of the websites I visit. So can anyone tell me if this small glitch has been addressed? I recently updated Windows XP and last night I turned off my laptop for the updates to work. This morning, I went to start up my laptop and it started up like normal, then went to a black screen where it said something along the lines of "Sorry for the inconvenience". It was a black screen with white writing and made you choose between "safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known with good configuration, and run normally". At first I chose "run normally" and it went to this blue screen with writing that said to pretty much to restart in safe mode. So, I went back and tried all the safe modes but when I did that, they all froze!! I am not good with computers, so I have no clue what is going on or what to do. I can't get to the desktop page to restore back to an earlier date, so I am stuck..Any suggestions?Is there anyway to download a new installation CD? So something really weird is happening on my laptop.. My internet connection is fine, but Google chrome will not load any pages; it won't even load the new tabs icons or my history. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but the same thing happens. So I installed firefox, but it won't load pages either, stating that the connection timed out. I have internet explorer (an older one-i think it is ie6) which WILL work and can connect. Resolved Question: Anti Malware Defender(actual malware) and windows system security update?

Okay, it all began when I downloaded limewire for the first time a few days ago and i got a few viruses along with spyware and malware. The next day, some prgram call Anti Malware Defender was downloaded 2 my computer out of no where! I found out that this was an actual malware trying to trick me into thinking my computer was infected so I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I did everything it said and I thought i got the malware defender out. But now, every few minutes or so, the Windows System Security Update would pop up saying I have to update the Anti-Malware defender crap so im really confuse because I thought i got rid of it! Then the security update would say "the update has been successfully install. Next thing u know, I see the fake malware defender icon on my taskbar again!! I then download Avast! and its been blocking threats i guess so far but can you please help me stop the security update from popping up sayin 2 update the anti-malware which i thought i executed? my firewall and i believe virus protection is up...IDK WAT TO DO! I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop with Windows XP, and all of a sudden one day the sound will not play from my SkullCandy headphones anymore. When plugged in, sound comes through the speakers. My laptop is a dell, about 4 years old and has Windows Vista on it. Soon after I got the laptop, I got really fed up with my new computers constant freezing up on me. So I did some Research and it turned out that that particular model I have (a dell inspiron 1501) was sold to people without having enough memory necessary to run vista and to fix the problem, most people just bought an extra GB of memory and was fine. I did just this...Now, a few years later, I am running out of hard drive space. Now I use my laptop for everyday things, no gaming or downloading movies or anything and music, but I recently had to delete a bunch of misc programs i dont need at this time, like i tunes, but might to have in the future. Basically what I want to know is, is this normal?? Should I spend the time and money necessary to upgrade my hard drive to say a 100 GB ( and i can install most anything myself on it) or will i have problems bc the comp is getting older? Voting Question: HELP!!! Laptop Freezing!!!?

My grandma's laptop has been recently giving her trouble. It all starts up fine, but when it gets to the desktop it freezes and nothing works (not even ctrl+alt+del). The only way to shut it off is to cut the power and it just does the same thing. She is not the type to have downloaded any programs, but she probably doesn't have an antivirus either. I can't check, because it won't let me past the desktop and the taskbar is usually hidden. I have antivirus software, but I can't install it. She also doesn't have the recovery disk anymore and it never gives me the option to enter safe mode. It is a Dell inspiron 1501 with XP. P.S. At the moment I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop with vista, I have only ever owned a Dell computer and really need help choosing a new laptop, I have seen a hewlitt packard hpdv6 2020sa which looks nice, do I got with Dell or Hp. Any advise would be greatful. Thanks more

Resolved Question: Problems freeing up space on my C drive.?

I have a small but annoyig problem with low disk space on my laptop. I'm running windows vista ultimate on a Dell Inspiron 1501. When I go to my programs there is nothing more to delete, but when checking the available disk space it says that my C drive is full to its 13.2 GB capacity!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks. more
