Open Question: Laptop stuck on windows error recovery?

Last night my laptop started going to the windows recovery screen, saying 'windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause'. It gives me two options: 'start windows normally' and 'launch system repair'. When i choose to start it normally, it goes onto the screen with the green loading bar and the windows copyright sign and freezes on that, leaving me no way to do anything except hold the off button until it restarts. When i choose to launch the system repairs, it comes up with a box that says its repairing which stays up for about half an hour before it goes to the same screen as i mentioned before (green bar, copyright) and, once again, freezes. I've tried launching in safe mode (all three of them) and i've also tried launching it with the same settings as the last sucessful boot. both of these go to the green bar/copyright screen and freeze. Last time the laptop was working, i didnt download anything at all, so i dont think software could be causing this. My laptop is a dell inspiron 1525 and runs windows vista basic. What can i do to fix this? I would really REALLY like to avoid an entire system reboot because i have files on there that i dont want to lose, including thousands of pictures and my 1500 song iTunes library!!! Pleaseee help! (And please let the solution be cheap...) more

Open Question: Dell Laptop won't start? More complex than it sounds?

Okay so i've had this computer a little over a year and half so it's not under warrenty and i can't afford to get it fixed. But there's nothing wrong with it, my charger is broken and wouldn't stay in long enough for my computer to start up so now it thinks there's something wrong with the start up process. When i start my computer up it asks if i want to start normally or launch start up repair and either one i chose it starts to load then a blue error screen comes up and i have to shut down. I know that i need to restore it to factory settings but when i press F8 it doesn't give me the option, it gives me the option to repair my computer but it just does the same thing and the blue screen comes up. I've tried F2 and F12 as well. Is there any other way to restore it to factory settings? It's a Dell Inspiron 1525.The blue screen says 'there is a page fault in a nonpaged area' and says to start in safe mode by pressing F8 but when i do,the screen comes up again. more

Open Question: Will updating the bios save my laptop?

I have a Dell Latitude 610 I bought as a refurb. It has worked great for a year. On Tuesday, I was uploading a video to youtube using ProShow Gold. This software renders the video as it loads. I got a message that my youtube password did not match my ID. This was a new problem. I closed the software and shut down my laptop. I then turned it back on. It went through the normal loading screen and then a blank screen appeared with a flashing cursor in the upper left hand corner. Not good. The opening screen shows a Bios version of A03. I know from the Dell site that the latest Bios (based on my service tag) is A06. Will loading the new Bios potentially save my laptop? I fear the system board is deceased but it will take me a $75 diagnostic test to find that out at a local computer repair place. Any input is welcome and thanks in advance. more

Open Question: Dell Factory Image Restore option not there?

So I've heard about this "Dell Factory Image Restore". I looked up the steps on Dell's website and do as they say. So I press F8 at startup and press "Repair Your Computer". I select language, then next, and logged on as a user with administrative powers, then clicked ok. Now this is where I'm stuck and confused. There is NO "Dell Factory Image Restore" option. Can I get some help? Inspiron 1545; Windows 7; Laptop ;I don't have a D: Drive. I didn't make any recovery discs. more

Open Question: Laptop wont load/repair?

This is my second Dell Laptop. I now have the Dell Inspiron 1454 and have never had any troubles with it before. But the other day i went to turn it on and it said i could either 'repair' it or run it normally. I chose to 'repair' it because i've done it before and It normally just takes a few minutes. However this time I did it it went straight to the blue screen (which it normally does) but nothing else came up. I waited for hours and nothing happened. So, i chose to 'run it normally' and it just took me back to the menu 'repair' or 'run normally'. I don't really know anything about Laptops so any help would be extremely helpful! Thanks!!!!I had to turn it of using the power button because it froze and wouldn't let me do anything for ages. more

Open Question: My laptop broke but my hardrive is fine. I had it put in a HDD caddy to use a portable hardrive?

I plugged this new HDD caddy portable hardrive thingy into my old 2002 xp Dell Desktop. It seems some stuff has been lost. Not my Music/movies,pictures or wordpad files. But all my software seems unaccessible. Will that still be on there. Like my Microsoft Office software, my realplayer, my media player from my laptop, movie-maker software, my Printer installation information, Adobe PDF Opener, Wordpad, notepad etc etc. I can't access it. I'm really sad because i had paid for a norton subscription and all this other stuff and i don't understand why i can't get it if my hardrive is completely undamaged. Did the repair man not convert all my software files? more

Open Question: restore to factory settings does not appear?

Resolved Question: Shall I have my laptop repaired or shall I get a new one?

I'm not tech savvy about computers so any opinion out there is much appreciated. I have a 3-yr old Acer 5583 WXMi laptop that's having serious problem with the display. Initial diagnosis by a competent technician puts the repair cost at $250 (parts & labour). Here are the specs of the computer: Intel Core2 Duo T 5500 (1.66GHz, 667MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache) 14" WXMi LCD 120 GB HDD Up to 384 MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 Turbo Cache DVD-Super Multi double layer 1 GB DDR2 (Support dual-channel) 802.11 a/b/g wireless LAN Bluetooth 2.0+EDR 1.3 GB integrated Webcam My other option is to get a brand new Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 (netbook) with the following specs: Intel Atom N450 processor Single Core L2 Cache 512 KB Ext Bus Frequency 533MHz & 667MHz Windows XP Home Ed. 1 GB memory; 160 GB HDD 1.3 GB integrated webcam 10" display Price: $279 I'm most concerned about processing speed. Will I be sacrificing a lot of my Intel Core2 Duo capability if I opt to buy the Dell netbook? Thanks. more

Voting Question: CD/DVD-ROM drive not found?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop. When I try to play a CD or DVD, I receive a message that says, "CD/DVD-ROM drive not found". How can I fix this? Voting Question: My Dell Laptop has broken, how much will repair cost?

My loaded backpack fell onto my Dell Inspiron and the screen and keyboard/computer have come detached in the right corner. From what I can tell is something broke so the screw can not reach to keep it in place. I think I am going to take it to the Geek Squad in Best Buy. What is the cost for a repair like this? and am I just better off buying a new computer? more

Resolved Question: New Dell Inspiron Mini 10 will not connect to wifi?

I just recently had a new Dell Inspiron that my scholl provided to me and my class. The problem is I can't get my laptop to connect to my open wireless network. I asked my friends if they had the same problem and they didn't. They said once their wifi was on, the laptop automatically connected to it, except for me. My wireless network is visible in network connections and is the first one with "automatic" and a star next to it in Wireless Network Connection. I click the 'Connect' button and a pop-up says: Please wait while Windows connects to the "my wireless network" network. Waiting for the network... with a green status bar. After about two mins, it'll just disappear! I don't get any notification of some sort and goes back to where I started. I try to "repair the connection" and when I do, I get a pop-up from the task bar saying "Unable to connect to wireless network". I do not know if it's the laptop or the wireless network. I connected laptops with my wifi before and there were no problems. I tried turning on & off the wifi switch, rebooting, I'm just so lost. Please, any help is appreciated. more

Voting Question: How can I restore my Dell Laptop to factory settings, as if I just bought it?

Ok, so what I did first was reinstall Windows Vista because I thought that was the safest way to factory restore as if I just bought it. However it didn't exactly work it just reinstalled Windows Vista but the webcam on it doesn't work and it doesn't detect the Video Card. I asked this before but they told me to push F8 for the advanced boot options and select "Repair My Computer" it says that in the booklet and people told me. However I don't see repair my computer on there so I don't know how to restore it. I was also told that by pushing control and f11 on the dell logo it would help but it doesn't work!!! How can I restore my computer as if I just bought it? more

Resolved Question: Boot to CD drive won't work, BSOD etc.?

I got angry with my laptop when it froze up the other day and I gotta admit I did hit it a bit (lol) and it was still on when I hit it but just frozen as it was before. I held down the power button to turn it off but it wouldn't turn back on, the screen was working but it was just blank. Not even the Windows/Dell logo thing came up, so I did the whole remove the battery and hold the power down for 30 seconds thing and now I can get to the Dell logo thing where I can press F5 or F8 to go to the boot options and stuff. I can't start it normally and it won't work in safe mode either, I thought I might be abe to format my hard drive and install Windows again with the disc but when I select where to boot from (CD drive) it doesn't work, Windows just loads up as if it's turning on again where it says "Microsoft Corporation (c)" or something with the little bar, then it goes blank for about a minute and the blue screen of death comes up. I don't want to take it for repair and it's just my luck that this happens right after I cancel the insurance on it. Any solutions will be greatly appreciated so thanks in advance! And sorry for the long ass read but it's all relevant. No matter what option I select (start Windows normally, in safe mode etc.) it comes up with the blue screen of death. more

Resolved Question: Dell laptop vista problem..?

this has happened to me before but when i took it to my colleges' help desk they managed to fix it. the issue is.. since vista is.. "amazing" it seems that every time i go to log off my computer i get to be lucky enough to install an update before shutting down. you have the option to have the computer install and then shut down, so of course i choose that option. two days ago i (like normal) chose that option and it did its little song and dance like normal and shut down. no biggie. so yesterday when i booted up it prompted me to the "launch widows repair" or "start windows normally" screen. i launched windows repair, after about 10 minutes of checking all the drives it told me to restart which i did and once again was prompted to the same page. it wasnt just once either, its in a loop. if i choose start windows normally, it restarts and prompts me to the same error page. im pretty good with computers so you dont have to baby step me, but if someone could help me troubleshoot this i would be much apreciated. i read that i might be able to uninstal the update in safemode but if anyone has a deffinate answer id much appreciate it. thanks! more

Voting Question: Roxio Burn is not working HELP!?

I just got a laptop, an Inspiron 1545 Dell. It came with this really sweet program called Roxio, which I liked ALOT. I used it like, 10 times and it worked perfectly. Then is asked for an 'Important Roxio Update'. Or something like that, so I clicked it and it was going all right. Then my computer froze up so I exited out of everything and had to restart. When I restarted the computer, Roxio didn't work. I looked for it but it wasn't there. When I finally found it, It wouldn't open. Resolved Question: DELL INSPIRON 1545- Bloody hell. Time of Day Clock Stopped?

Everything is wrong with Dell and my laptop. But recently my battery is complely fried and I get the message 'Time Of Day Clock Stopped' Ive done some research on this and found that basically I am fu*ked. So if I get it repaired (if they do it) will my laptop be wiped of everything? Its still under warrantly as its only 9 months old, but realise because dell are let downs we probably wont be able to get it fixed, as they will blame it on misuse (which there has been none) more

Voting Question: Necessity for laptop in college? (Revised) HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Hello, it is August 4, 2010 today and I begin college on August 30, 2010 at CSU San Marcos. I will be commuting from my home 3 times a week which is about 40 miles away from school. My current laptop (HP Pavillion dv9700)'s network drivers and CD drivers do not work, because they cannot be detected. I have tried all possible ways to fix this with the resources I currently have. I do not have a warranty, and taking it to get repaired will cost me likely as much as $100-200+. Not only are my wifi and ethernet ports broken, my disc driver is broken too due to the compatibility issues of Vista + iTunes CD driver configurations. It is literally impossible for me to fix this computer, as I have already tried everything that I can. (I can't even system restore anyways, and never could make a system restore disc because the disc driver never worked since we got it). I also have several computers in my house. I have an old Sony Vaio that my mom uses for studying, my broken HP laptop, and this dell desktop that my mom is kindly letting me use for internet. The only cpu I am allowed to use with permission is the dell desktop, because it is used for my mom's work, and I am not allowed to download anything, or do anything on it except use it for internet. My question is, Do I need a laptop for college? I am an incoming freshman and am majoring in the Computer Science field. In about 2 years, I am planning on transferring to another school to continue studying Computer Science and/or pursue Aeronautical Engineering. Before, my HP pv9700 was struggling to keep up with the things I do, and also has many other problems within the computer itself(along with the recall). If I were to choose a laptop, I have planned on purchasing the Alienware m11x R1. My reason for choosing it is because I plan to use it for school, computer programming, watching movies, video editing, minor gaming, research, socializing with my friends, webcam, and other general uses. The computer is also small, light and extremely portable. I was also able to get a hands-on feel at my local BestBuy. Along with it's looks being appealing, small features such as the matte keys and smooth surface provided an ease with typing. I also found that the battery life, performance, portability issue, and function all fell under my needs. However my parents did not approve. They found other "visually attractive laptops" such as Toshibas, other Dells and some HP products to be a lot "better" for around $100-200 less. Their choices on the laptops had glossy sticky keys, they were around 15" in size or full keyboard(with numpad), and some of them were even heavy. My dad knows about as much as how CPU's work as I do(maybe even better), but my mom doesn't know too much about how CPU's work. I really like the Alienware, because not only is it visually stunning(IMO), it is a very powerful notebook for it's size and group genre. I was hoping to get the R2(or i-series core), but the R1's(with dual core) seem to fit my needs at a cheaper price. I understand my parents reasons for choosing what they chose, but I strongly believe that what I chose personally fits my needs best, especially for $100-200 more! As much as I really would love to get a the m11x, I am unsure if it will really be useful in college. I was wondering if it would be possible to make it through the first two years of college without a laptop. If my HP never broke, I wouldn't have gotten in this situation, and would be able to spend the money on other things, but it really looks like I need this laptop. It just sucks that my parents don't agree, and I will probably be stuck with something that won't benefit me as much as it could. The money I would be using(if i were to get a laptop) would be my parent's money. Sorry my question is a little confusing... but I wanted to provide as much information about the situation I am stuck in. (And if there were a way, how would I be able to convince my parents to side with me on the m11x?) Additional Details... :) To summarize it, I need a laptop that is small, light, powerful, and extremely portable that will perform admirably for exceeding demands and general use. I chose the m11x, but my parents refused and said I don't really need a laptop right now and can probably wait 2 years before getting a new one of my choice, or I can get a crap one now(their choice of laptop for around same price). Do I really need a laptop for college? Or will I be able to make it at least 2 years without one before buying one. I'll add more details later... Please help! Thanks! :D Should you come across this question, please spread it around, as I really need help... Here's the link to this question... http://tinyurl.com/laptop4college I revised this question because I think I put it in the wrong section. I hope this section will attract more attention and actually give me p.s. my 18th bday is coming up this month very soon more

Thanks! :DBut I don't have a computer available at home to use... yeah... sorry it is too long but that's the best way I could explain it.Oh, and THANK YOU! for answering! :D I just hope more people respond too. p.s. my 18th bday is coming up very soon too...I'm paying for it and can pay up to $1.5k, but I'd like their permission first. I have to decide wether I should spend it now for something that I need and don't have... or save it for future tuition... (Keep in mind, there are no computers/laptops that I can use at home or take with me) more

Resolved Question: Connection problems with my Skype?

I have been using skype for about a month, and in the middle of one video call, i lost connection and haven't been able to get it back. At first, i tried restarting my computer, and then uninstalled and reinstalled the program; neither worked. When i look at it the connection on Skype, it says my compter is running too slowly to make a call. So, i quit running all my applications, repaired my connection, deleted all my cookies and history and those things and it STILL doesn't work. I have Dell Inspiron mini laptop with Microsoft Windows XP. If you need any other information about my computer to make it run better, just ask. more

Resolved Question: My computer won't start up...?

Then white text appears and says, '\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM' is corrupt or missing and that's why windows won't start. 'You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.' 'Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair' What do I dooo??????? more

Resolved Question: My Dell inspiron 1501 with win vista won't run because the registry is corrupt?

when you restart it, it goes into startup repair, and it can't fix the problem, then it restarts and does it over and over and over again, even if i select start windows normally. I tried to restore back to factory settings, and a box came up that said error... that's all it said! i tried all of the restore options and none of them worked. luckily i had already saved my personal files to an external hard drive (maybe that's the software that messed it up to begin with) just a week ago. Help! i really wanna get this laptop going so i can send it to my husband in afghanistan so we can hear from each other more than once a week! more

Resolved Question: Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop Help?

So, here's my problem. I keep trying to turn my laptop on and I get: "Windows has failed to start" with the options "Windows Startup Repair" and "Start Windows Normally". Now, neither work. I click on both, it will go to the Microsoft loader screen then black. I ran the simple diagnostics test on it and got the error here: "http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa171/questgirl18/Photo0079.jpg" and I've also gotten the error "STOP: 0x0000007B (0x80599BB0, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)" <The STOP error occurs when I try to run the Startup Repair> I didn't see anything wrong with the Motherboard or the Harddrive. Anyone have any idea how to fix this? more

Resolved Question: What is the appropriate gift?

Okay so my really good friend called me in June and was complaining how she got a virus on her computer. She had to wipe her hard drive and basically install Windows 7 (She had Vista..ugh). But luckily, her cousin was the one that did this all. He saved her stuff and basically did everything. And since he is her cousin, and they are very close, he obviously did this for free. Coincidentally, the same thing happened to me in early July. Virus and everything. I called Dell and they said that the cost to repair it (wipe the hard drive, backup etc) would be $120! Despite paying a lot of money on the laptop and thinking that I had gotten all the warranties, they said that "virus protection/internal software" was NOT covered. Okay obviously being a poor college student I thought instantly of her cousin. So, I dropped off the laptop @ his work and he called me 4-5 days later saying he backed up all of my pictures (there were about 2000 pics and that's the only thing I wanted to back up) and installed Windows 7 on the laptop. That was about 2 weeks ago. I have yet to go pick it up. :( Anyways, my question is. What should I give him in return? Obviously I can't do $120 because then I would've sent it into Dell in the first place. But I mean should I buy him lunch and bring it to him @ his work? Should I give a gift card to like Express? (He works @ the Sears Tower in downtown Chicago so he has to dress nice to work). I need help! Something reasonable yet something nice! PS- I know he's not going to expect any gift because: 1- He knows I'm very good friends with his cousin. 2- He's just a nice guy like that and he won't. HELP!!! more

Resolved Question: Why won't my Dell Laptop Start up?

My Dell Laptop won't turn on. It starts to load like it's about to turn on, but a message pops up that says recent changes may be causing failure to start and to hit a "begin repair" option. However, everytime I hit repair (or anything else) it just goes to a blank black screen. I don't know what to do. I have tried to run a memory diagnostic, but that didn't seem to do anything. I'm worried it's a big issue. I just got this laptop last year. more

Voting Question: Need help with my dell D630 laptop?

It is running windows xp but it has the vista sticker on it so i assume it could run vista. It has had a lot of problems in the past year, viruses and me trying to fix the viruses/downloading stuff. I have the CDroms that came with it already installed. Should I take it to a computer repair place or could I fix it on my own? If I can fix it, how? I have almost no experience with computer software so be specific and explain everything. Thanks for your help. more

Voting Question: Crack on the colored portion of my Dell laptop cover?

So I have a Dell Inspiron 15 and I noticed that there was a crack on the COLORED portion of the top of my laptop, seen here: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/detail.gsp?image=http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/88/41/16/03/0088411603466_500X500.jpg,http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/88/41/16/03/0088411603466_500X500.jpg,http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/88/41/16/03/0088411603466_AV_60X60.gif&product_id=13316852&iIndex=1&isVariant=false&corpCard=false&type=-9223372036854775808 (THE PINK Part) I was wondering if this will be able to be repaired at all? Resolved Question: How Can I Wipe A Computers Hard Drive But Still Keep Windows XP On It?

A few weeks ago my laptop broke and cannot be fixed (or I can't afford to repair it). At my Dad's work he has some old, spare Dell computers running Windows XP. He was allowed to take one home for me to use until I can purchase a new computer. The problem is, they said I could have the computer only if I could wipe it as it still has old data on it from my Dad's company. However, after doing some research online I have only seen methods which delete the OS off the hard drive too (Windows XP). This is the one thing I want to keep. So is there a way to wipe/reset the hard drive without deleting Windows XP? Preferably something I dont have to pay for would be nice. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Dell, Toshiba, or HP laptop?

I'm in the market for a laptop (my first) to last me AT LEAST 5 years with no problems or need for repair. I'm interested in purchasing either a Dell, Toshiba, or an HP (originally I wanted a MacBook, but I've heard that that's not the best choice for a biology major--the compatible software is not as good?), but I don't know which one is best. I'm willing to pay up to $1200 as long as it has the following specifications: --built-in webcam --long-lasting battery (at least 5 hours) --best processor (fast with good performance) --4GB memory --at least 16" screen --it must be QUIET --must last me at least 5 years --DVD/CD drive (no Blu-ray necessary) Also, I'm not a big gamer (I like Sims and Nancy Drew games, but other than that I really am not big into computer games). Please let me know if this request is even possible or if I need to lower my expectations! But please help me figure out which laptop to purchase! Thank you in advance for your help! more

Resolved Question: What components make the computer screen work?

I bought a dell home desktop pc from a guy. $400 in payments! Had it 2 months, screen went out, & won't come back on. Tried another moniter, still won't come on with the other moniter. The other moniter just says no signal. So I used a graphics card from another pc I had. Screen still won't show. So I had some pc tech guy who is supposed to fix pc's fix it for $150. He said it works fine. It was just dirty. I bought another pc from a pawn shop earlier that week, so I never tried the Dell he fixed for a few months. BIG MISTAKE! He didn't even fix it! Screen still don't work. So I then bought a laptop from another guy for $300 in payments. Gee, what do you know! Laptop screen goes out 1 month later. I was on the internet applying for jobs & got a blue system message. Internal error. Computer must be restarted. So I restarted, & screen don't come on. It's not the battery. The power works with & without the battery. The lights, fans, & everything comes on. I put a windows xp installation disk to reboot from start up, but can't even get the screen to work to go to bios, safe mode or anything. I can hear the disk drive running, but can't see it. I tried another monither with the plug the pc has & nothing. So now, I have 2 computers with the same problem. Any pc gurus out there that know what components may be bad to be replaced? I don't think it's the graphics card. Any help other than see a technitian would be great. I allready know I need to see a tech, & will probally do that, unless it will cost me 400 to fix, then forget it. not worth it. Especially since Dell desktop cost me 400 + 150 repairs. :(:( Thanks for info in advance. more

Resolved Question: Is it still possible to fix my hard drive?

Two days ago, I was using my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1420, then all of a sudden, all my programs just stopped working. I was still able to move the cursor so I tried to shut down the computer. I tried clicking the shut down button a number of times but nothing happened so I shut it down manually. When I tried to turn it on, it said "Error loading operating system". I then tried to run diagnostics to see what's wrong then I got the error code 2000-0142 during the self check test. I found out that this is a hard drive problem so I tried booting from the Windows Vista CD but it still didn't work. I then put the hard drive into an enclosure to try to repair it but when I plugged it into another computer, only the second partition of the drive showed up, which is the 10GB "recovery" partition. I tried browsing the partition and it seemed to be working well. I went to disk management to see what happened to the remaining 150GB partition and it said "EISA Configuration". I tried right-clicking on the partition but the only thing that appears is "help". I then tried to format the drive just to see if it will allow me to but it always gets an error. Is there a way to retrieve my important files from the other partition? too long didn't read: Only one partition works. Is there a way to obtain my files from the other partition? more

Voting Question: Dell Vostro 1510 Laptop won't boot up!?

Okay, My Dell Vostro 1510 laptop froze last night. I tried ctrl+alt+del but the usual menu didn't appear so i treid it a couple of more times. Nothing worked so i manually shut down my computer by holding down the power button. i waited a few seconds and then turned it on again. I selected "start windows normally" when prompted and I made it to the starting up screen with the loading bar but after a few minutes nothing was happening- it wasnt loading. So i held the power button again and once I started it up again I selected the "start windows repair" which was (recommended). then it was checking all sorts of things and the ony thing that I see now on the "diangnosis and repair details" is that it says that the "system volume on disk is corrupt". I'm not sure what that means or how to resolve it. When I click finish on the startup repair it continues to the loading screen and stays there just like before- the loading bar just continues going while nothing happens. **Note: I wasn't in the middle of intalling or uninstalling anything. I left my computer for a moment and when i came back everything was frozen. Any help would be greatly appreciated! sorry if this question was already answered, but I did try and do my research first. Other Info: I'm using Window Vista and i'ts an Intel Duo Core2.I forgot to add that also during the start up repair after it said "system volume on disk is corrupt" it said as follows: Repair action: File system repair (chkdsk) Then it just went on to say that it was successful (I don't know how b/c nothing works yet) and that the error code was 0x0 which I'm guessing means nothing. I don't know if this helps but if there is anythingyou think i could do to troubleshoot i'm open to ideas!**so it seems as though I should reinstall windows... My question then is: Will that process delete all y saved documents and files? it sounds like it will so I would like to know if theres an alternative that will protect my files and solve my problem. Please and Thank you more

Resolved Question: i can't restore to factory defaults?

hello, anyways i can't restore my dell laptop windows vista to factory defaults anymore. I have restored it twice already, but this time it won't let me. I know to press f8 to be able to go to the menu for repairing your computer, and when i click the "fully restore pc" menu, it just says there is nothing there. In my hard drive, a recovery drive is already there, but i'm thinking that when i try to restore my pc it's reading of the wrong drive. I'm not really sure because when i system restored my computer it gave two drives, (c) and recovery(x) when my recovery drive is (d). Well i have installed drivers from "DriverMax" and updated my drivers, even though i think it wasn't even for my machine. So whenever i go to "My computer", 3 new drivers with removable storage. I really don't know what to do, is there any way to execute the "full system restore" via command prompt specifying which drive to use? more

Voting Question: Will Limewire crash my computer?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 Laptop. I was wondering if this would happen because I once had Limwire on our Dell Desktop. It eventually got the Trojan Horse Virus, and I had gotten someone to repair it. They said it was caused by Limewire. Can anyone confirm that Limewire was what gave my Desktop that virus, maybe any personal experiences? Also, will downloading it effect or hurt my Laptop in anyway? more

Resolved Question: How can I repair my Dell Inspiron 1525 myself?

Today I dropped my laptop, yes I dropped it for the 2nd time in 3 years & I'd like it if no one mentions how I should have been more careful, I already know. Anyway it fell onto the charger while it was in the charging port. The laptop turns on like it should & the green light on the charger comes on like it should.  Problem is when I plug the charger into the port the light turns off. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing this means there's a problem with the connection on the charging ports end.  I called Dell they told me I'd have to pay $59.50 to SPEAK to a technician, I feel like if I knew how to repair my own laptop then all I'd have to pay for is the parts.  Can someone explain to me or direct me somewhere you know that can help me learn some trick of the trade.  Forgot to mention that when it fell the charging port was bent up slightly, I pushed it back in place. more
