I'm in the market for a decent laptop at a decent price, heard that the Toshibas fall apart my friend had one, and in one year is dead. The HPs I've also heard aren't very durable but, i've heard either or about both of them (model variations I'm shure). I'm going for a decent price around 450-500 or so, The only things I really do online are, Youtube, Myspace, Emails, Windows Live Messenger, and Habbo Hotel (A Flash Player based MMO game), that's about it. Here's the situation, im in Iraq right now and want to system link Xbox's with other soldiers on base...the internet service we have here is one of those system's where you have to sign-in with a username/password everytime you open IE...my Ethernet cable is simply plugged from my ethernet port on my laptop to the small ethernet port in the wall for connection to internet...When i system link with ppl in my same pad On Xbox 360, i plug the ethernet cable from the wall to my xbox...Now, i want to connect with ppl on the other side of base on XboX. I know that a wireless adapter on every xbox would work, but not all of us have one...so my question is, Can i set up a system link thorugh the ethernet cable AND still connect with other's using the wireless adapter at the SAME TIME? For Clearity, If "A" ,"B" and "C" are system linking through Ethenet Cables, can "D","E" and "F" connect with "A","B" and "C" useing a wireless adapter if "C" is the game Host and has a wireless adapter plugged in while he's system linking through Ethernet Cables???? P.S.- the game we're linking is COD:MW2....Go figure eh lol more

Open Question: How to set a password on your computer, even if it's restarted? (Read)?

Hey everybody! I set a password onto my computer. So every time you use it after it's been inactive for a while you have to enter a password. Just what I wanted, great! However, if the computer is restarted then it doesn't ask you for your password. Someone is using my computer without permission. So the anwser was to put a password on it. Except the fact that all they have to do is restart the computer and they can use it as once the computer is restarted then it doesn't ask for you password. So I may as well not even have a password on the computer at all because all they do is restart it and can then use the computer! So how do I make the password where even if the computer is restarted it asks for your password still? Is that possible to do? Could you please explain to me how I do it?! My brother has a laptop and even if the laptop is restarted or shut down and started again, no matter what it asks you for your password! If you could explain that to me that would be great! As I have tried googling it and I couldn't come up with anything. If you have any more questions, just ask. And I will add back more info. Thanks in advance! P.S. I don't know which category to put this in. So if I put this in the wrong category can you please suggest another category? Thanks! P.P.S. How I put the password on was I went into: Start. Contral Panel. User Accounts. And clicked on "create a passowrd." And once the computer is inactive for a while it goes onto the screensaver and then eventually goes black. When you wiggle the mouse around or whatever to get it back again. It brought you to a login page. And you just clicked on the account picture. And you were on your computer. Now with the password when you click on the login button it asks for a password, you enter it and your on your computer. But once these people get to that login page they just simple restart the computer and no password is asked it simply brings you right to the computer where you can use it. So again. I know it's possible for it to still ask for the password even if it's restarted because my brother's laptop does that. So how do you get your computer to still ask for the password even after it's restarted? Please explain step by step. Or even putting Parental Control on the computer to block off the interent and games? Do you have to just do that instead. Use parent control or family safety or something. And block off the interent and games? My computer is a Windows Vista. Anyways, sorry for it being so long! Please read all of it! And if you have anymore questions, just ask! more

Open Question: Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 error message with Vista?

I have had RCT2 on my vista laptop for a while and it has been running fine. Today, I installed "RCT2: Triple Thrill Pack" which is the 2 expansions for RCT2. Now when I click the icon to play, it says "Exception Raised- Access Violation. Error Location: Unknown" The game worked fine before and now it won't work. My RCT1 and RCT3 both work fine (without the expansions). I have tried "compatibility mode for XP" and "run as administrator" and still same thing. Any help or links to patches/updates would be great. Thanks! more

Open Question: Why can't I get MYST III to play anywhere??!!?

Ok, it's official: MYST 3 Exile can not play on ANY computer!!! At least none that I have had. The game installs fine, but, when I try and run the program, it just does not work. I have tried playing it on a laptop, with Windows XP Pro (locked, from school). Same laptop with Windows XP SP2 legit copy. Desktop, windows XP SP2 legit copy. Desktop, Windows XP Pro. Legit copy. Desktop, Windows XP SP2 non-legit copy. None have had a Video card. Except for the XP Pro desktop, legit copy. With a GE Force with a S Video output (and VGA, of course). Not exactly sure which kind. The most common problem is that after the Direct X/ Software option screen, I will choose either one, and the window closes, and just nothing happens after that. OR, sometimes, it will close, and a window will pop up saying "This program is not meant to be used with Windows NT". Why can't I get it to play? What am I doing wrong? more

Open Question: Dual Monitor Task Bar and Gaming?

Okay, I have Windows 7 and I am running dual screens with my laptop. (One Including my Laptop Monitor) Now, I was just wondering if there was a way to have it so that I can play games on my extended monitor (acer) and do everything else on the laptop. Also, I was wondering if it was possible to somehow prevent when you click off-screen on your game. To have it not crash to the task-bar. Sometimes games are finicky when it comes to even Alt+Tabbing. So if someone can shed some light on this for me, (google is doing terrible atm) that would be awesome. Thanks. Additional Details I know everything there is to know so far. I just need to know how to keep everything on the laptop monitor, but use the other monitor primarily for gaming. i recently updated my toshiba laptop to windows 7 home prem from the same vista program 64 bit. I was able to play BF2 & BF2142 multiplayer with updated patches fine on vista. I've screwd around with the compability settings and run as administrator, but doesn't resolve my problem. It does run and start up, but on a small screen not wide screen as it use to, and im sure able to run a singleplayer, but EA says i need to update the patch in which i did, and in the game under COMMUNITY, shows BF2142 1.41. The lap top comes standard with a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X 4500 HD . I have no idea what this means. A few of my friends told me a video card is one of the most important things on a laptop. I could pay $100 (which i'm willing to do) to upgrade to the 256 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4300. I have no idea what that means either. I do not plan on doing any hardcore gaming, if any gaming at all, but I watch a lot of videos and movies. Open Question: Computer game freezes for some reason!?!?

Hi, I play tibia and it will be fine for like 2 hours and then the screen for the game freezes. My computer and the tibia program doesn't freeze just the screen. I'm not sure why...I use a laptop but it will freeze even when i have excellent connection. I'll be able to get back on but it will usually happen a couple minutes later after I get on. Anyone got any suggestions?its not taking the full amount of my cpu because it is a small 2d game. Might be overheating...is there anything else it could be? more

Open Question: What equipment or software would i need to make a Let's Play?

Me and a couple of friends of mine are wanting to do a video Let's Play of a N64 game and apparently I'm going to be the tech wizard that makes this happen. Unfortunately I know dick about this kind of thing. I was thinking i could: A: Run it on a N64 and somehow output the video to my laptop and record it on there. And record the audio with a simple microphone set up in the room. B: Emulate the N64 game on my laptop and video capture from my laptop and audio capture much in the same way as A. Sorry if this is dumb Im not very savvy with certain computer stuff. I have bought a HP DV6710EA notebook and it has a 2.00GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile processor which I assumed meant it was dual core. Anyway, when I checked a game on the "Can You Run It" site, it says my processor is as above but my CPU speed is 800MHz. Any other Laptops I have checked, the CPU has said the same as the processor. Open Question: Computer FPS lagging problem while on games?

Well when I first got my laptop it was in half-way of 2008. I played some small time games like Counter Strike: Source, some other really old games and GTA: San Andreas. I never EVER lagged on any of them, in fact I always had like 80 FPS on GTA and CS:S. My laptop isn't the best at all, my specs are: CPU: AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-82 Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics RAM: 4GB Also the space on my computer is: Total Free: 170.23 GB/298.09 GB Now, I started FPS lagging like maybe two months ago while playing GTA and CS, which it wasn't bad. Just some small like 10 second 10 FPS lag and then back up. But it went worse and worse and now I lag every minute or two badly. I used to be able to play on highest settings for both games without any trouble but now I can't even play on the lowest without lagging. I guessed I had a virus so I scanned my laptop, I didn't have one. So I'm guessing it's because my laptop is overheating(yes I can feel it overheating but it always did that) and maybe my cooling pad is dieing out. Anyways... if anyone knows how to fix this it would be apperciated. I'm either going to get it cleaned and buy a new cooling pad and if that doesn't work; restore it. I'm not looking to go crazy and play like GTA4 or some game like that. I just want to play some old bad graphic games. Any help? more

Open Question: i want to hook up two computers to play LAN games?

me and my girlfriends brother (who is a room-mate of ours) both ended up buying the same video game, and we dont have internet in our house, i do have ethernet cables from my last house still laying around, however i have no router. if i were to take the ethernet cable and hook one end to his laptop, and the other end into my desktop, could we compete with one another in the game over LAN? or do i need to use a router? more
