Voting Question: My Gateway Solo 9550 laptop will not boot up.?

I have a Gateway Solo 9550 laptop, the battery is completely dead, has never worked, has never affected the performance of the computer. With that said, I installed new memory with the power off and unplugged. I did not take the battery out because it was dead and will not hold a charge. I tried to power on the laptop and the light for the battery comes on red, the power light comes on and stays on, no light showing the hard drive is working, the screen does not come on, I do not hear any noise at all coming from the computer, except for the fan. I shut down the computer by holding down the power button, unplugged it and took the battery out this time. I put the old memory back in and still the same thing happens. Is this my hard drive or another problem? I am in desperate need of this laptop working. Thank You to all in advance :) more

I'm wanting to get into PC gaming. I know nothing about ddr's or gddr's or processors. I plan on buying from Best Buy so i narrowed my choices between three desktops. the Gateway - Desktop with Intel® Core™ i7-920 Processor.............. or Alienware - Aurora Desktop with AMD Phenom™ X4 9550 Quad-Core Processor............ finally the Dell-XPS Desktop with Intel® Core ™2 Quad Processor Q6600. By the way, its for Elder scrolls Oblivion, LOTRO, WoW. I want to play on High Quality with bare lagging. My $400 Compaq Intel pentium dual core laptop isnt doing the job, so i want a Desktop capable of doing so and those three are within my price range, kinda.how do i build my own computer is there a website?should i just buy one of these three, or how would i build one more

Voting Question: I need someone how can really help me solve my laptop troubles ?

I have a gateway solo 9550 that has had Internet trouble and lost it audio hardware. Here are some details If I open my control panel and go to Network Connections and look for my connections It well be blank and can't make a new Connections Even with it hooked up to the Internet Source which is connected to the modem with a Ethernet cable. Still not connection or even a sign. Now for the Audio Now if turn on my volume wacth a youtube video My computer won't make a noice or even a sound. The only sound that it will make is a loud Beep if there is a system error. Ok now when I looked in control panel for sound and audio devices i found no hardware for my computer. My Dad and I can't solve it's problems more

my laptop is not booting all the lights are on the power light the hard drive light is on and battery light is on they do not flicker the fan is not running it is completely dead beside the lights coming on also i don't hear the hard drive spinning it there is no beeps i am assuming its the motherboard just looking for some other hints or ideas that might be the problem before i go buy a new motherboard this laptop is a gateway solo 9550 also the lights come on when ac adapter or battery plugged in the laptop meaning i do not have to press the power button to bring up the lights nor can press the power to turn the lights off i have to pull the battery out of the laptop and unplug the ac adapter to turn off my lights more

When i tried to open the game after i restarted the pc, I got this message saying "A problem occured while initalizing directdraw.Hardware acceleration maybe turned off,please run DXDIAG". And thats what it said, I tried that but this window just opens up, and i dont know what to do from that. I also got a message saying please install the correct graphic card driver. but i dont know what graphics card model i have. My computers model is a GATEWAY SOLO 9550. Please help me. PS I ALREADY ACTIVATED MY PC more

Resolved Question: Have a clue with power consumptions with laptops?

I own a solo 9550 Gateway notebook laptop. There is a problem with its power, and it has nothing to do with the battery, becuase the battery is dead. This is the scenerio: The laptop occasionally refuses to bring power to other functions of the laptop. The old method of fixing this laptop was that I disconnect the A/C adapter and reconnect it. After that the laptop works fine. Now the old method does not work anymore, becuase the male pin power connector broke, and i have to had it permenintly soddered, to fix the power. Of course the power goes through it now. However, the problem with the power consumption, still there and now I do not have a clue on how to fix it. I am thinking that the CPU is not working up to its full point, or maybe its dieing. I am thinking that I may buy a new CPU, to see if it work. Will that work? Or is there another method on how to fix the Laptop's power Consumption.My Instructor told me it could be a short in the power, could it be that one to cause so much of a problem? more

I was at my grandma's house and I was sitting at the kitchen table with my Gateway Solo 9550. I type stories and put them on the internet, a lot! Well, I was typing and a little box came up and told me that my display properties has had a problem and needs to close. All of a sudden, the screen was only about 6 inches tall by 9 inches wide, what happened? Now it hasn't been happening lately but every so often the screen flickers. What is wrong? more
