Just got a New laptop and just got a new apartment so I am looking into getting Internet service here. So many Options. I don't want to pay for more than I can use. Open Question: Acer crystal eye webcam?

I have an Acer aspire 6930z with a build in webcam. Not so long ago we had to set it back to factory settings but I couldn't find the webcam on the laptop. I know its there because I can still use it on msn. But if I wanted to take pictures with it I can't as i cannot find it. It shows up on the device manager as far as i know.. it comes up under imaging devices, and it says its working fine. I downloaded the software again and it came up, but when i clicked on it, it said "Camera no found" So i don't know if i have to connect it or something.. Open Question: Recording videos on my webcam?

I have a Gateway laptop, and there is a webcam built in to the computer. I know how to open it up and record a video on it, but for some reason, the sound seems so QUIET. When I record the videos directly onto YouTube, the sound is fine. I need it louder, because the primary reason I use the camera is to record songs on guitar, and you can barely hear them when I play them back. I have another microphone which I can plug in, but that barely does anything. How can I make the sound louder? Could someone tell me instructions on how to properly plug in/use a computer mic? Hi Folks I think my laptop (Acer 7720G) has got a virus because it freezes everytime I click the internet explorer icon to enable me to connect to the web. I have been advised by some of my friends to restore my laptop back to the factory settings, and in this way I could get rid of the virus. I shall be grateful if some one can kindly answer the following questions - 1. Would restoring the laptop back to factory settings get rid of the virus and enable me to connect to the internet as normal? 2. If so, how do I restore the company settings? 2. I have also been advised that there is no disc/cd available by which I can restore the laptop to the factory settings and that windows vista has an in built feature for doing this? Is that true? If so, how do I go about using it? 3. Finally, once I get my laptop up and running, I am thinking of putting on Norton 360 anti virus. In your opinion, is this good anti virus software? Open Question: Will I have trouble playing games on a Studio 15?

I have never been a PC gamer, but there are games I do like that I see on other peoples laptops that I want to play. I have never been much of a Graphics fiend ether so If I have to play the game in low Quality I'm okay with that. I will always think that good Graphics don't necessarily make a good game, so if beyond the graphics the game Is boring, I don't usually play it. I'm really bad at looking at system requirements (Don't know why)l.The Games Being Dragon Age origins, Mass effect 1 and 2, American McGee Alice, TF2 and Portal. Some of these games I just don't know if they will work well on there or not. Open Question: any other exsternal gpu's besidesViDock?

are there any other exsternal gpu's besides the vidock's i know there were a few in R&D back in 2008 but i cant find any current info, and if there arnt any does anyone know if the vidock acually works? and how. i have a laptop with an intel integrated, so im unable to do much of any gameing with it, the cpu and ram are fine the only limiting factor is my gpu, but im unshure of exactly how the vidock works, do i need another monitor or can it work with my build in one, do i need to buy a card or is it self contained? ect i need more graphics power but i really dont want to buy a new computer yet, the vidock seem to be the only remotely effective thing i can do.i currently have mobile intel 965 express chipset family, so im almost certain anything would be an upgrade, but im not intirly shure, as i couldent find any real specs for both my chip and the vidocks. more

Okay in my first argument I said that mind doesn't have the ability to create, but according to some of the objections made I need to clarify the different between "create" and "make". Create is to make from nothing, make is to form something from that which already exists. Therefore I can take the image of an elephant, the idea of a bird, and my favorite color to MAKE a new idea of yellow elephants flying in outer space, but this new thing although invented wasn't "created" its simply the product of manipulated information that I received from one or more of my five sense. Thomas Jefferson invented the light bulb but he didn't "create" light. If the universe had no Sun and men had no eyes then "Light" would be a word without meaning, the idea wouldn´t exist. This goes to prove that man could not have "created" the idea of a God. It would have been impossible for man especially Primitive man, who thought the world was flat, and was help up on the backs of elephants, to conjure up the idea of a God that could not be verified by either of the five senses. Makes sense? Good, now That we got that out of the way, lets get into this. You cant be an atheist, because even if you only believed in the "Universe" then the Universe therefore would be your god, so whereby you´d be a pantheist by definition. But atheist or pantheist whatever it maybe your "system of believe" cant explain two interrelated, yet distinct but somehow conflicting phenomenons that exist ONLY within mankind. 1) Reason and 2) Love. Now matter how you look at it, at the end of the day you can only admit, its not a product of nature, meaning it didnt come from this universe, but from a Higher power. We have both facilities and man is younger than MOST species on this planet so that blows evolution completely out of the water. Some try to argue that reason is amongst some animals but listen lets be honest, even in a billion years you still wont be able to teach a dog physics or Quantum theory, and a chimp wont be able to build an apple laptop computer. Love by far takes the cake because its not even logical, its in a class all by itself. Animals live by one of two instincts or (laws of nature) 1. Self preservation, and 2. the herd instinct or the preservation of its kind. Reason, Love, Morals etc, are not products of nature, to ensure our "survival" nature doesn't care if you live or not that's why DEATH, and Extinction exists. Ladies and gentlemen.... This is reason! (Like I said before, grammatically im terrible, I handle two languages fluently, so focus on the argument and not the errors Im sure i committed. Thanks) more

Resolved Question: Can i use an ethernet card in a desktop without built in wifi & if so, in what port?

I have a Dell Desktop that I have always connected to my router with a wire for internet use via the phone jack looking port on the dell. Recently, we were unable to connect to the internet with the Dell, even though our internet was working (I had been able to connect to the internet with my laptop, which has built in wifi). After we tried 100 other things, we came to the conclusion that the phone jack type port was the problem~ to be certain, I logged off my laptop’s wifi connection and plugged the line to the router we usually have plugged into the dell, into my laptop’s phone jack port. It worked fine- meaning it’s not the line and it’s not the router; it’s the port on the desktop. I don’t have the $ at the moment to buy a new desktop or the parts/labour to fix the port on it. We do however have an Ethernet card I used to get wifi on my old laptop, which didn’t have it built in. The Ethernet Card is an Encore Electronics 54 Mbps Wireless PC Card (Cardbus). The Dell does not have a slot/port on the exterior that we can put the card in, but my husband opened the dell up and looked inside to see if there was a place to put the card into internally, so we could pick up wifi from our router, until we have the cash to repair the port. We couldn’t find any obvious places inside to put the card in- but my husband says there are several unused open ports inside, he believes for add-ons (? Neither of us are very educated on the inner workings of computers, so please bear with my terminology- or lack thereof). We wondered if indeed there is a place to insert the card inside. My husband also wondered if there was a way to disconnect the 3 ½ inch floppy disc drive to use the connector to connect the card to? I’ve uploaded a photo of the internal Dell; as well as a photo of the card I have. I marked the internal Dell photo with a red X near the port my husband thought we might be able to use to insert the card. If these won’t work, is there another way to use it? Again, I don’t have the cash to buy a part or get it fixed at the moment- so I’m not looking for “go to the store and buy a _____” answers (barring any suggestions on how to fix it MacGyver style with household goods, lol). Open Question: How to remove write protection from Micro SD?

I know a million n00bs have asked this question, but my question involves more trouble than just sliding a switch. Here are the details: I have 2 Sandisk 2GB Micro SD cards, which previously had proper read/write access all the time. I've had them for more than a year. I always use the USB card reader which came with Datel's "Games n' Music DS" and the Micro SD adaptor that came with it; they have worked quite well for the last 2-3 years. For the other Sandisk one, I use the same USB stick and the adaptor that came with it (the official "Wake up your phone" one). Then, yesterday, when using them the computer nagged saying "This disk is write-protected. Remove the write protection or insert another disc". WTF? I tried moving the "lock" switch in both postions on the micro SD adaptor cards, but nothing changed. Also, I tried even using another Card reader; nothing, and then a built-in SD drive on my bro's laptop; nothing. I tried "chkdsk /F F:\", and disk defrag (which failed because was write protected). I even tried to reformat the dang thing; failed (because write protected). The same results happened on the one Micro SD WHICH HAS NOTHING ON IT!! I believe this "write protection" was enabled by either my new Eforcity Card reader or the older card reader. When I tried a previously read/writable SD card today on my older card reader, it got "write protected"! I could write pictures to the card via a camera, but when the SD was connected to a computer, it became "write protected"! I haven't tried putting tape on the little notch on the SD adaptor yet (as suggested by someone else here). Nor have I tried messing with the disk partition of the cards yet. Is there anyway to remove the protection, given those details?! Should I try messing with the disk partition with some software, or definitely try the tape "hack"? (I don't see why the tape "hack" would work, since the Micro SDs and the normal SD were always meant to have full read/write access). Is there any software I could use? Thanks a million in advance to anyone who can help! more

I want to obtain a gaming quality laptop, but to do so in a way that eliminates the cost factors of brand name cost, preinstalled software, manufacturer's assembly, etc. Where can I buy all the components necessary to assemble a laptop? I search the Alienware website, but it doesn't seem to offer any assistance for laptop building. Since I don't feel confident in my ability to build a laptop, I may delegate that task to a local computer repair shop. How much would something like that cost? If I discover that my laptop performs poorly due to poor assembly, would I normally be able to get my money back? Can I expect any kind of warranty? I considered buying an outlet or refurbished laptop, but I ultimately want to get the most for my money. more

ok, so i start up my shiny little box of death (my laptop) i see that my computer wont pick up the belkin box right next to me.. which os suposed to work throughout my house. every other computer in my house (all 5 of them not including mine) pick it up just fine but my computer wont. so i do the normal thing, i go to network connections and i see that the wireless "program", for lack of a better word, dosent evin exist. like you know how you would go to network connections (on a laptop with wireless capabilities built in) and you see the Locial Area Connection "thumbnail", and then you should see the other thumbnail for the wireless connection.. well mine isnt evin there... my second question is (sorry for the doubbles) when i try to plug in my ethernet chord, it says i have little or no connection. i go to check what the heck is wrong and it says the problem is it cant renew the IP adress.. what the hell do i do? oh and when i plug in my ethernet chord and i start up my computer in Safe Mode (networking) it works fine.. hence me being on right now lol someone smarter than me please help! i have checked google and youtube out the ass and nobody really helped...ii have windows XP more

I built my website using html, and it looks fine on my computer. But when I viewed it on my friend's computer (using the same browser as before, Firefox), it looked different. In my html code, I placed ads above some of the text, but on my friend's computer, the ads were in the middle of the text. Hello. I am at a stage of my life where I'm starting to doubt that my chosen career path is actually rewarding enough. I am currently working in IT, as a support specialist for a large corporate company. I have a number of qualifications and about thirteen years experience. However, every morning I get up and struggle to get into work because I lack any motivation for the job. It feels so meaningless and pointless, every day endlessly building laptops, moving equipment zzzzzzz.... I've always found people and interacting with people very interesting - finding out what makes people tick, human behaviour etc all very fascinating. I've been told by many people that I'm a very good listener and I understand peoples problems. I can often look at a problem from both sides and be objective - giving both sides of an argument. I am able to be considerate, and careful of others needs (when I want to!) privately with friends and in relationships. I feel that I have a thick skin, and would be able to help people with their problems in life. So, given this, I thought it only right that I pursue a career in one or more of the career paths open to people who work as therapists. Basically, now I've stopped rabbiting on about myself can anyone (who is a trained therapist, or is in training) to become a psychotherapist or councillor in the United Kingdom give some insight as to what I should expect from this career path, how long I will need to train for, what certifications or qualifications I would or might be expected to achieve and how work prospects are looking - I would be very grateful. Also, any comments on what it is like to be a therapist would be good - you know, what the job is like day to day, dealing with difficulties in the job etc. Anything like this would be helpful in giving me some kind of direction. Please don't day anything about stereo mixer or the 'what you hear' thing in the recording devices. Yes, I've right clicked the blank area and clicked show disabled devices and show disconnected devises I don't know how many times. I don't have it. I want to record internal sound and I also want to be able to use my headphone/microphone. I have an all in one desktop (not a laptop) and it has a mic built in, but when I'm using rosetta stone or ANYTHING else it can't understand me, but it just wont use my headphones mic... Plus not being able record internal sound is just plane annoying. I did it all the time on my lovely XP to record internet radio or sound tutorials for later use, japanese lessons for my mp3 player, etc. I need to be able to do it and my wonderful XP laptop is 7 years old and doesn't work too well...at all...so I need my NEW computer to do it...that's why I got it...damn I miss XP T_T. So i have a hp pavilion dv7 if that helps.. I don't know how to find my built in video recorder information. I heard however that with the new windows movie maker 2.6 version you cannot use the built in video recorders anymore? Can anyone confirm this? I've been diagnosed with ADD and im 14. The ADD im diagnosed with has a depressant and is the kind that makes me very quiet and a good boy. The schools ive been in haven't picked it up because i was such a good kid they had no problems with me. Come elementery school, my grades were'nt doing so good and they all thought i was lazy and careless. Until about 6 months ago did they finally do tests that showed i have ADD. But i personally really think there is something else wrong with me. My instincts are telling me i have something else. I really don't know how to explain it but it's preventing me from living my life that a normal teenager my age should. Like right now, im calm, im listening to music and neutral. If my mom came into my room right now turned my lights on said "get up, where going out!" and walked away with my door wide open, id get extremely angry and that anger would build up as the rest of my day went on. I never want to talk to my mom or dad. When they ask me a question i just answer it extremely suttle and give an attitude. As for friends i dont wanna do anything with them. they wanna go swimming and waterparks and bike rides and shit. I HATE ALL THAT STUFF. My idea of hanging out with friends is staying inside, having a few laughs, watching a movie or playing video games or walking around town. I'd say i spent more than half of my summer laying in bed with my laptop with the lights off trying to find answers online to my problem since i can't push myself to talk to my parents. I have no momentum or inspiration. i have no "true" friends. i cant stand my family. i find them very irritable. i love them, but i cant stand them. A theory i have of this is a mix of ADD and puberty. But everyone my age i know DOES NOT have this problem. Their all very happy with their teen years when im laying in my bed desperately trying to figure out my life with no one to really talk too. I wanted to patch a few files in my system 32 folder so i could use custom msstyles for windows 7. I noticed a few changes when i was logging in, like how the password box was different. And when i did log in, i was greeted by a completely black screen when i should be looking at my desktop, with just my mouse that worked. I waited and it wasn't a case of it hadn't loaded yet. I don't care about the msstyles anymore, as you can imagine i just want to use my laptop again, but can't even see anything on the screen let alone reverse what i had done. If i was to guess the problem, the tutorial was completely wrong in the sense that it saidf nothing about how you had to use the command prompt to actually get the files working once they were in the system 32 folder. Which means that i may have copied the files in there but maybe my computer is trying to run without these files. Open Question: How to solve damage power supply, toshiba laptop?

Hi, I am looking for a laptop solution. I have a toshiba laptop purchased (satellite A-105-S4284) around 3 years ago from US. It had 1 gb ram but then i upgraded it to 4gb. after using it for some time, one day accidentally it fell on the hard floor. My laptop got damaged power supply The battery stopped working and it is not working at all. now i m in india and nobody is able to repair it. Somehow i managed running it on a damaged power supply but if i move the laptop, it would turn off which ultimately damaged my hard drives and destroyed them. Overall laptop performance was very good and i like the sound system of toshiba. I know the laptop is not repairable now but except power supply, everything else works great. I have a good processor, 4gb ram and good motherboard. I might have to spend money on hard disk but that is ok. My question is : can i use my lap top's parts and build a new laptop ? i mean i actually need a good power supply and a new hard disk and that's it. I come to think of buying an old laptop with similar configuration but not sure about its price and its availability in india. I need to get the solution/repairs in Ahmadabad only. I just got internet connected to my apartment. They said the modem or brain was somewhere downstairs (not in my apartment) so i dont have to worry about it. All i had to do was plug my computers to the wall cat5 jacks because the room has a built in HUB somewhere.
