I am using dell inspiron 6000 notebook from last 3 years and 2 months ago i had changed the battery. Currently i am facing a problem regarding battery charging. Few days ago, i had a message like this on start up that The AC power source has not been recognized, Press F1 or F2. I did it and my lap top never showed that message again. On friday, i had noticed that my laptop is not charging, although on task bar the icon show's AC power plug-in and on clicking it also shows that system is running on AC power but battery level remain same (no charging). I moved in and out the power plug-in and then it started to show battery charging icon and battery was charged. But from Sat after using my laptop on batteries, when i tried to dock it then the same problem has started and right now i am still facing. To diagnose i did check Dell system utilities and there on Power option AC Adapter = Unknown device Type. Could you please guide me what problem it could be, is it the the DC power jack or the AC adapter.? more

Voting Question: Webcam video help sound works well not video dosent work?

I have a webcam from logitech called Quick Cam for Notebooks Pro Lens 4.9mm and I get an error message when I try to take pictures or record a video. I have a Dell inspiron 6000 I think it might have to do with my laptop. The sound works perfectly but the video doesn't. I tried reconnecting it to the USB slot and i downloaded the software twice but it didnt work. please help more

I keep getting that error on my laptop and not letting me go into windows or even format the hard drive. i guess its not finding the hd. i even went out and got a new hd and installed it and still getting the same errors? cannot format new drive and notebook isnt finding it. could the mobo be fried? more

Resolved Question: Why is the battery charging cable on my Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook so loose and wiggly?

The portion of the battery charger that plugs into the back of my laptop is very loose in the slot and the "battery charging light" on the laptops hinge blinks on and off. The screen brightens and dims as this happens as well. I can gingerly hold the cable to maintain a consistent charge, but that is not a long term answer to this problem. Someone told me I would have to replace the entire motherboard to solve this problem. That seems extreme. Any suggestions?It's not making contact because it very, very wiggly when I plug them together. The charger is okay and the battery is brand new, because I thought I would replace the battery to see if the problem would go away. The connection between the laptop and the charger has lots of movement in the connection. more

Resolved Question: Can anyone help me diagnose why my laptop won't turn on after being dropped?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Notebook (out of warranty) that fell from 2-3 ft. onto a hard ceramic floor. Before the fall, it was powered on and working fine, but in the closed position. When I picked it up and opened it, the screen was black and the power lights were off. I did not see any noticeable breakage on the computer. I pushed the power button to turn it back on but nothing happened, no lights, no sounds, nothing. I tried resetting my computer by holding in the power button for 30 seconds, removing the battery, holding the power button again, attaching the ac adapter without battery, etc. No luck. I'm sure the problem is not my power source, as I just got a new battery charger/adapter which is working fine, and my battery was fully charged. I also know the problem is not with the hard drive, as I have since removed the laptop's hard drive and used a hard drive enclosure to connect it to my desktop computer to retrieve my files. All files were intact. I am pretty good with a screwdriver and I have the service manual for my Dell Inspiron 6000. I like to try to fix things myself before taking to a repair shop. I have some electronics knowledge and know the safety precautions to take. All I need is someone to tell me what to look for that I haven't tried already. Any ideas? more

Resolved Question: Inspiron 6000 Notebook won't keep a charge????

the only way i can keep my dell working is to have it plugged in... and then it will never charge at all... you can have it plugged in for as long as you want but it will simply not charge... it only happened a while ago too so what could be causing? what can i do so i can have my laptop charge? it kinda isn't a laptop if I'm forced to have it plugged in all the time... lol Thank You so much! more

Resolved Question: Is my computer dying? Why is it acting so strange?

I had it for 2 1/2 yrs., & it's acting the way it wants, even though I scanned it & put the antivirus updates on it. It's also acting REALLY slow, & the volume button still works (louder & lower) but the bar does't show anymore. When I try to right click the mouse, it only works for a short period of time & then I have to restart the computer for it to start working again. Resolved Question: Home Networking Help!?

I am trying to set up a home network between my Dell XPS Desktop (running Windows XP Media Center Edition) and my Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook (running Windows XP Home Edition). I have run the network setup on both computers, using the same workgroup name for both. The desktop can view the files on my laptop, but my laptop can't view the files on the desktop. I have tried to fix the firewall, but I am not sure if I did it right. Both computers are running Norton 360 as the antivirus software, and have the windows firewall enabled. If you think it is a firewall issue, give me detailed instuctions on how to fix it. Also, I am using a Linksys router and my internet connection on the laptop is working. Resolved Question: How do I get laptop functions back if I installed desktop XP on it?

I have an Inspiron 6000 and had to reformat it, but I only had an installation disc for a desktop. Now, if the monitor to my laptop is closed, I cannot open it again without turning the laptop off and back on. The screen remains black. I can't use the Fn key with anything either! Is there any way to get back laptop functions without having to reformat with a laptop disc? If a laptop disc is needed, is there any place to purchase them because I cannot find any place that sells them? I've done online searches for notebook XP discs and cannot find one. Thanks to anyone who can help! more

Resolved Question: Dell laptop question?

I have an Inspiron 6000 notebook and the little mouse touchpad thing has a scroll arrow on it, similar to the scroll wheel on a regular mouse. The problem is that I got a new hard drive a while ago and ever since then I can't scroll with the touchpad, I have to physically click on scrollbar and it's very tedious. I've tried control panel and troubleshoot and everything but I can't figure out how to turn the scroll arrow on again. Does anybody know what I can do, without having to call Dell? more

I'm thinking about upgrading the CPU of my Dell Inspiron 6000 notebook. Right now it has the standard issue Pentium M Dothan 1.6GHZ, 2 mb L2 cache, 400FSB. I would like to upgrade it to a Pentium M Dothan 2.26 GHZ, 2mb L2 cache, 533FSB. I understand the 6000 takes any M processor on a 400 or 533 bus. I'm thinking about getting the processor on ebay, though, since it's so much less expensive that way. Does anyone here have experience getting a processor pulled from another machine that installed and ran well? How hard is it to upgrade the CPU at home? I am fairly comfortable working inside my laptop, though I wouldn't mess with the motherboard. Does the CPU upgrade require flashing the BIOS, or is it plug and play?I already checked and found out that the 2.26 ghz is supported by my system...it's the fastest that my system can take. How do I do it if I don't have the BIOS upgrade CD? more
