Open Question: How much would a gaming laptop cost?
Like with 2.5 Ghz, 2-4 GB RAM and a really good graphics card. Something like that. Also, can put this price into comparison with a desktop computer with the same specs? Thanks! moreResolved Question: should i buy a dell laptop from bestbuy or from dell.com?
I am looking for the best laptop I can get for under 900$ that can play the sims 3 and handle my ipod media plus my every day computing needs. I saw a computer at bestbuy for 779$ that a sales associate assured me I could do the things I listed above. But I wonder if it would be less on the dell website. Also It would be helpful if someone could find some price comparisons for different laptops . Thanks in advance moreResolved Question: What gaming laptop should i get?
I have recently became interested in pc gaming. I have a PS3, but, unfortunately, it's not all that mobile. Don't get me wrong, I love my ps3, and won't sell it until it becomes very obsolete, but I like the idea of having one machine that does it all. It is a computer, and a mobile gaming console. I also like that most new pc games are usually about $50 in comparison to the $60 price tag on new ps3 games. Because I am new to pc gaming, I have a few questions. 1.) Which laptop should I get? I understand that the more expensive laptops are better in many ways, but I just can NOT spend more than $1000, and even spending that much will take me a few more months than expected. I hope to find something not exceeding the $800 mark (spending more than $800 would be my last resort). I found this alienware m11x, ( http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/alienware-m11x?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn ) and feel that this could be my first gaming laptop. Anyone have any opinions on this one? I'm not looking for top of the line hardware here, just something that can contend with my ps3 with the added capability of being mobile. 2.) Any recommended Accessories? 3.) If I buy a gaming laptop (for example, the one listed above) should I sell my current Dell inspiron, or keep it around? I'm sure alienware has it's own OS, so is it good enough to replace my current one? Any others comments and opinions would be appreciated. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Which of the two given laptops should I purchase?
I want a laptop that doesn't overheat easily and is portable with great battery life (>7 hours). I found two affordable laptops at costco.com that I really like. But for some reason, I can't find decent reviews on them to make a good comparison. Maybe someone here knows how to compare the two computer's specs to know which one is better. Thanks! Ok, well I have decided to wipe my HD clean on my laptop and it came with Vista Home Basic (32) but I wasn't issued an OS disk, but my auntie had told me she has an XP Pro licensed for more than 1 computer, I believe the it is a 64 bit. So I was wondering what the pros and cons are of both Vista HB and XP Pro. I have been doing some research, but could not find a recent comparison. Most were from 2007.Sorry, the license for the XP Pro is for 13, not 1 computer lol.The license she has is NOT pirated, nor illegal, but yes, she did buy it for her company, however, I have talked it over with te people in the office and they had aggreed that I could use a copy, I am paying them some money for it, but not alot :) moreResolved Question: I want a new Apple Product, but should i get the iMac instead of the macbook pro laptop?

My step dad brought this home from a thrift store, so far all the information that i have on it (from looking throiugh it) Is the Model number (Xtra Pro 486S/25C) And that the processor(CX486SLC/387SX) My mom is curious if theres any possibility for upgrades for this machine (I told here theres not a chance that you could work with the hardware that its got with any hopes of it ever being in comparison to a newer laptop) But she insists i do some searching :/ Either way, what the hell is it worth...?Im aware of the year the processor came out, but after like 2 minutes of bein on the internet, Batteries for these things are ranging from 86-116 bucks, and the processor i found on ebay @ 46.33 or something like thatYeah i've been playing with it, but actually, the processor isn't bad for what the computer has going on, Simple programs like Paintbrush (before they changed it to simply paint) and some other random useless programs like solitaire O_OYes, it turnes on, it has windows version 3.1 installed as a OS Things kinda interesting :] unfortinately the battery is bad i do believe, fails the tests on startup, but either way, it runs 3.1 very smoothly, I've been having fun checking this thing out, because its as old as i am... Very interesting. Is there any way to swap a HDD for this thing? I don't plan on spending 80 bucks for a new battery of course.. for something thats just not functional, it has a phone line jack but not a ethernet port :*( and unfortinately im quite sure that i couldn't even install AOL software on it even if i wanted to because of the fact thata it has so low memory, but if theres anything that you can tell me that i don't know, Other then the fact that its old as hell.. let me know please moreResolved Question: Windows 7 Gadgets (in comparison to vista)?

I know it's an OS and it makes your PC more customizable. I'm willing to put in time, energy, and money (to buy a book on it) to learn it if it's worth it over Windows. I have a Sony VAIO laptop, with a 140 GB hard drive...I use my computer to go online, play games (WoW, Doom, etc.), use iTunes, and store my pictures and things, mostly that's all. I don't know anything about coding or those things yet, so give me your opinion. moreResolved Question: Again, Which Laptop Computer is Better? This one is different.?

Hi :) I have a desktop computer which I'm pretty sure I have had since 2002 or maybe even longer and I am looking at buying a new laptop. My current computer is Asus or Optima (I don't even know) and these are some techy details: MS Windows XP SP3 Intel Plentium 4 CPU 3.06GHz, 239MB RAM I have used 74.5GB (God knows how) and I'm not sure how much space is on the thing. Okay well the main problem with this computer is that it is SO LOUD, even when it is just sitting there with nothing open you can hear from quite a while away, and then when I open firefox or something it makes these crazy loud noises. It is also soooo slow when I do anything, like startup & opening files or programs. When i have say 10 tabs open, it's extremely slow as well, it's really annoying!! Okay, well I was wondering if this computer is good and has tons of viruses that are slowing it down (I heard 3.06GHz is good!!) or is just craap? Also, I'm still going to keep this computer so how can I fix these problems on it or is that impossible without spending hundreds? Also, should I just upgrade and reboot this computer or buy a new laptop. And I don't know which kind of laptop I should get so it would be very helpful if someone could help me :) I want a fast laptop, approx 15-16 inches, HD and hopefully can play bluray, good speakers is vital!!!, I want it to be able to store lots of stuff on it and I want the price to be 1000 to 2000 dollars. Also I'm going to use it for watching movies on the net, downloading music, watching/storing movies, internet browsing, assignments etc. so it has to handle that kind of stuff. Anyone know a good laptop for me?? (Oh and I want to get my moneys worth) :D Well sorry that is HEAPS of writing!! But I hope someone can help me out PS. I'm a bit reluctant with Mac's because they are really expensive and I dont know if I'm getting my moneys worth in comparison to another laptop. moreResolved Question: Need a new laptop...which one to buy?

(mp3/m4a)?
Hi, I am wondering if there is a maximum bit rate or something that an iPod (Classic, 5th Gen) can support. For example and my comparison, I just purchased a song from iTunes. Using the same iPod headphones, I listened to this on both my Laptop (where the .m4a file was downloaded) and on the iPod - and seem to hear a difference. It seems my computer (i.e. original) version has slightly more of the spectrum, especially in the bass department. Is this therefore true that the iPod does not keep all the quality or am I dreaming things? Cheers! moreResolved Question: MacBook or a Toshiba?
I recently bought a refurbished MacBook for $856 [tax included]. My friend pointed out Toshiba's line of laptops and how much cheaper it was in comparison to my MacBook. I've used the MacBook before many time before having bought my own, and I really like it [I plan on installing Windows 7 on it eventually]. But since it was pricier than all of the Toshiba's I saw online, I'm thinking of maybe returning it and exchanging for a Toshiba laptop instead. Would someone tell me some pros and cons of a Toshiba laptop? I'm mostly interested in the cons, honestly because I don't want to be swoon over just by the price difference. A side note: the refurbished MacBook was bought at [what I think] a reliable source, my university computer store. moreResolved Question: Comparison between cpu's?
Hey, I have an old computer with a Pentium 4 2.8GHz and recently bought a laptop with a U2700 1.3GHz which I think is from the Pentium M line. I looked up the passmark benchmark scores and the scores are 416 and 396 respectively. Youtube HD playback is fine on the Pent 4 but unwatchable on the U2700. Flash video is not gpu accelerated so the gpus don't matter in this case. How can this be explained? If the scores are so close to each other, what can be used to appropriately determine how well a CPU will work without actually buying a computer? moreResolved Question: Desktop to laptop comparison ... advice requested.?
I have a desktop computer that I've been using for a few years, and it suits my needs for the most part. Recently, we went on a road trip and bought an inexpensive laptop to take with us so we could keep up on email, etc. Now that we're home again, I'm considering making the laptop my main computer because I fell in love with its portability. However ... I'm not sure which computer is better. What do I need to look at for a fair comparison? I'd hate to move all my files (a massive amount of data) just to find out that the old computer was better suited to the kind of work I use it for. I'm hoping that the laptop can handle it because it's brand new and the desktop is several years old. Back then, it was top of the line, but as we all know, as soon as you take a computer out of the box it's obsolete.Laptop: Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook PC AMD Sempron SI-42 2.10 GHz 3GB RAM Windows Vista 138 GB hard Drive Desktop: Dell Dimension 8250 Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.06GHz 3.05 GHz, 512 MB RAM Windows XP Professional 111 GB Hard Drive I use it primarily for writing, web design, graphic design, audio recording, some video editing. I'm in the market for a decently priced gaming laptop, and I have so far narrowed it down to the two listed above. I would like to get the fastest one of the two, but I also want it to be cooler than 90°C, which was how hot their predecessors could run. One of the things that stumped me was their rpm: the G60 has a 7200 rpm and 2.13 GHz on its dual cores, but the G72 has 5400 rpm and 2.53 Ghz on its dual cores. I know very little about computers, so I figured that I would ask you guys which one is the fastest without compromising its temperature too much. Price is absolutely not an issue; just compare the computers themselves. Thanks in advance! Hi, I've tried FolderMatch & Acronis. I'm satisfied with Acronis image backup and FolderMatch as a utility to manually backup my data by doing folder comparisons periodically. I'm now looking for a new backup utility that will enable me to schedule daily backups from my laptop to my desktop PC shared folder. The total size of the data I'm looking to backup will be large, up to 50 GB. It seems that utilities such as Idlebackup check every single file to see if the file has been edited since last created. However, this will take too long right? What software indexes and checks this quickly? Alternatively, what software keeps active track of all new files created and edited on my computer in real time, so that when it comes to backup time, it knows exactly what files have been edited since the last backup. I'm hoping there's software out there that does this!Hi, thanks for the reply - I'm actually looking to do backup locally from my laptop to my desktop at home via a network shared folder. Are there any other tools that can do this? moreResolved Question: Is Windows 7 worth the upgrade?
With the release of Microsoft's new OS Windows 7 I am left with one of the questions that has plagued mankind for ages should I upgrade? As of right now I am running Windows Vista 32-bit Home Edition. I am one of the few that did not have major issues with Vista. Yes upon the release I did have compatibility issues, but as of late it seems I do not have those problems (or maybe I just gave up on programs that would not run on Vista). Yes, Vista does seem slow compared to XP (keep in mind I never actually ran XP so I am going by the limited use I have had with the OS). I have read reviews and they seem to be positive, but one of the major things I hear in them is improved user interface to make things simpler and more accessible. I do not always find this as a good thing and cannot justify a 120+ dollar price just for that. In fact I rather enjoy user controls that are a little more complex as they seem to give you far more opinions than something simplified for mainstream users, Wii anyone? OK that probably is not a fair thing to say nor a good comparison, but I can live with Vista's user interface. My major concern is performance. Forget all the bells and whistles I want something fast. I have 2 computers one a desktop and the other a laptop both running an AMD dual core processor (not sure of the speed right off the top of my head). The desktop has 4 gigs of memory while the laptop has 2 gigs (again not sure of the speed). I have a 512mb 8800gt running in the desktop which is oc and a 256mb 8300 gsm in the laptop (not sure about the laptop I think thats what it is). I have trimmed the fat off the start-up programs giving my better cold boot times and shut down times, by how much I do not know. I want performance orientated OS's and one of the biggest faults of Vista in my opinion was when I click on something its takes so long to open the program, but maybe that's just a slow hard drive? So people that have 7 is it really faster? Most reviewers say yes, but they also say it's debatable with bench marks sometimes putting 7 in last place between the three (Vista,7,XP). So when I talk performance I mean in everyday use. I want to get the most out of my hardware. I know I really do need a 64-bit OS, but if I upgrade I will probably stick with a 32-bit OS. I mainly use my computers for the internet (average surfing to video streaming) and gaming (online or off). So... will I get better boot and shut down times, will programs load and run faster and smoother, will my games seem to perform better (better frame rates, load times, etc.). I realize it may come down to what hardware you are running and just personal opinion, but I really would like your input on the matter. Also I should point out I really do not have the cash to spend thus to get the new OS will take some saving on my part. So I really do not want to buy it just for some very minor performance and improved UI. What do you think about the new OS. I realize you probably have not had long to use it, but what are your initial thoughts? If you could do it all over would you still chose 7? Sorry for long post just wanted to explain my thoughts as accurately as possible. And thank you to anyone that gives some input. 10 points to the person who seems to give the best answer regardless of if I like what your saying or not. moreVoting Question: Hi, i am looking for a hi spec laptop, moderate gaming, but robust and ideal for work.?

i have intel gma 4500m hd and intel celeron dual core t3000, 1.8GHZ. while my friends notebook has geforce 9300m gs and core2du p7350 which's 2.0ghz. i heard there are not so much difference between geforce 9300m gs and gma 4500mhd. but i can hardly play assassin's creed or devil may cry4 even with 3d analyzer while my friend's computer runs quite well without any trouble or 3d analyzer. my computer has XP and 3gb of ram and friend's computer has VISTA with 2gb of ram. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html this site shows that p7350 ranks 61th and my T3000 ranks 97. could it be because of the difference of the CPUs? because from what i heard, there arent much difference between geforce 9300m gs and gma 4500mhd if i upgrade my cpu, will i be able to do more things with my notebook? moreResolved Question: Selling my laptop.....?
I’m looking to sell my laptop but I’m unsure how much to sell it for. I looked on craigslist but there weren’t any accurate comparisons to base it off of. It’s an Acer Aspire 5610. Its about two years old, the only obvious flaw being on the top where a small spot of silver wore away form being leaned there repeatedly, and the key below the escape key is missing, but it still works (it makes the ` and ~ marks). All the ports and jacks work, the speakers, CD player. Basically the only damage to the computer is superficial marks on the outside. Everything else is in working order. So how much could I feasibly sell this for? Oh, its Windows Vista operating system. And is there anything else that could factor in its selling value?I still have the original packaging, so this is what's on the label. I'm looking to buy my first laptop and as I browse I keep considering battery life. While I've built a few desktop computers in my time and know my way around buying hardware for them, laptops are an area I know very little about. What can I reasonably expect from a laptop battery, particularly with Wi-Fi on? Obviously there's a lot of variation across different models, but I'm thinking primarily of a a mid range laptop (around £500, which in a model to model comparison seems correlate with about $800), around 15", reasonably powerful (probably Core 2 Duo) although certainly not a full gaming rig.Just to be clear, when I talk about how long the battery will last, I mean between charges rather than its lifespan. But thank you for that additional information :) moreResolved Question: Which of these 2 laptops are better?

I want honest to god reasons on why I should spend 3,000 for the base of an Alien Ware gaming computer when my Asus-tek new grade Laptop can push performance peaks past its. I understand that Alien Ware is top of the line, but I think the line needs to be reviewed. The cool sleek Alien Ware design must be compromising for something! (I don't think a new Alien Ware computer can play World of Warcraft at 300 FPS with no latency spikes over 100ms, or any game that fast for that matter.) Should I try to up to Alien Ware? Or is Asus-Tek G71GX still god in comparison? moreResolved Question: Why are Apple computers so expensive?
I was looking to buy a new computer. I think Apple computers have charm and good design, but side-by-side comparisons (with Dell and HP) show that their computers can be more than twice for a laptop with less computing power. I was just wondering what accounts for the 100% premium. moreResolved Question: how do you compare computer processors? I'm lost?
so i was interested in buying this laptop from ebay a dell latitude d800 the price is around $240 dollars it comes with 1GB ram and a 40GB hard drive. in the listing it states that it has a 1.7GHZ Pentium m processor in it and they also offer upgrades on the processor to a 2.0 GHZ Pentium m for 30 dollars. so my question is the extra .3 GHZ worth it? and they also have this chart that compares the Pentium m to a Pentium 4 along with a brief description of the processor. -----Built with the Intel Pentium M (Centrino) processor, this laptop was designed for true mobile computing that includes advanced power-consumption for extended battery life, more robust wireless (WLAN) technology, and less heating. Because of this advanced technology, the processing power of this processor is equivalent to 1.5 times a Pentium 4 M (P4M) processor. For comparison, --- * Centrino 1.6 GHz = P4M 2.4 GHz --- * Centrino 1.8 GHz = P4M 2.7 GHz ---* Centrino 2.0 GHz = P4M 3.0 GHz my other question is does this chart look accurate or are they lieng to make the laptop seem faster than it actually is? sorry the question is long , and thank you for helping me out moreResolved Question: Looking For a Comparison eeePC, MSI wind, and HP Mini?
Please tell me which of the computers you own, or have directly experienced. Tell me what the pros and cons were of using the computer, and whether you would recommend it. Also, if you have another suggestion for a computer, I'd love to hear it! As for what I'll be using it for, I'm a highschool student, going into the 10th grade. I would like a computer I can easily take to school if necessary. I have mostly been looking at netbooks for the following reasons - Portable, Cheap, Long Battery Life, and they seem like the only laptops left that run windows xp. I like to work with graphics and I like to play games, but that's not really the main reason I'm buying the computer, and I'd actually like to keep myself off games and focus on my rather grueling schoolwork as I'm going to be dual enrolled and in an AP class, so a lower performance computer is sort of a plus in this case. I plan to dual boot one of the many forms of ubuntu, and windows xp for all the weird stuff my teachers send me that won't run on linux. I am willing to upgrade the memory and make other performance enhancing modifications, but It would be awesome if it didn't cost all that much to do so, because I am paying for at most of this with my own money. I am trying to stay within a budget of $300-$350(which is pretty much my life savings), though I could probably get my parents to give me $50 if needed, and $100 if I do awesome in school and beg really hard. Thank in advance for any and all input. It is greatly appreciated. moreResolved Question: I own a HP G60 T laptop computer with MS Windows Vista SP1?

(the laptop savvy are welcome)?
Weeks and weeks of intensive research and I've narrowed it down to two laptops, an HP and a Toshiba. What I've concluded is that both are very good, reliable brands. Reliability is something that I was looking into--I'm a pre-nursing student (starting college this week) and I expect to be writing papers and doing research and what-not. I would also like to do a little bit of music listening on the side and some intensive web-browsing...no computer games, though. Okay, so here's a full comparison. It has good graphics, good sound and an even better battery life. I don't mind the dragon design either. What I didn't like was the fact that the screen was rather wide and awkward...and typing seemed a little uncomfortable. I'm a writer, so this is also something to look at. Toshiba E105-S1602 This one got an exeptional review on CNET, but there have been various complaints on the quality of sound and graphics. I might be able to overlook these due to the fact that the design, layout and keyboard are all incredible, and the the battery life is beyond decent 5hrs:30min. And besides that, its got blue-tooth. Both weigh about the same. Thanks for your help! Any experiences you've had are welcome, any feedback is appreciated. :-) moreVoting Question: Are cheap laptops/desktops worth their weight?
I always say that the computer industry is one industry where you really "get what you pay for" meaning that when the price goes up, so does its value. Does anyone else agree? Hey all, always looked around here for quick tips and finally needed to post to get some help. Well, what's happening is this: I start up my computer and it starts up really slow in comparison to how it normally does, when I get to the desktop the mouse freezes (bottom left corner if matters), and the computer still loads everything (drivers, startup programs and whatnot) slowly. Since the mouse doesn't work, the computer is unusable. I tried starting up in safe mode, but it seems the computer freezes on one of the startup screens (the one the says "welcome" and has the little blue ring). So I'm at a loss there. (I have a laptop running windows vista home basic 32 bit.) This problem just started, I was using the computer just fine, restarted, then *boom* this is how it is. As for background on what I've recently done, I acquired an old Kensington expert mouse pro, and downloaded a driver from driverguide (seeing how I didn't have a disc or anything) and installed the driver. Afterwords, the installer said to restart, but I decided to wait a little while and finish a little work. When I restarted is when the problem started. If you need any more details I'll try to provide them. Your help is really really appreciated. If the problem can't be fixed, some way to access the system restore would also work.
