Open Question: Why can't i get a good signal when i bridge my wlan & lan connection?

I have a linksys wireless n router, and I have a Linksys Wireless n adapter installed in my PC. To avoid having to buy an adapter for my xbox 360 i have bridged my connections to run an ethernet line from my pc's port to my xbox 360 by going into network and sharing=>manage networks=>select both LAN and WLAN=>Right Click=>Bridge Connections. This works when i used my brothers laptop but for some reason when I do it from my PC it runs really slow causing my xbox to lag, even though his laptop is 802.11g and mine is N. I get an error on my PC which doesn's prevent the internet from working but it says my nic card may be inserted incorrectly and to take it out and re-insert it. And it eventually causes problems for using the internet on my PC as well. If i delete the bridge all of the errors go away. Is there anyone who can help with this issue? more

Open Question: I have a question about using a laptop and connecting it to a network?

I have a HP G60 Notebook PC, and when we first got it, for Christmas, it worked fine. But recently, I cant get online unless I connect an ethernet cable to it from my router. Before, we turned it on, and the wireless card in the laptop automatically connected to my network, but not any more. Now, after running the diagnostics test on it, it says to turn on the wireless switch. When I tried to do that, it wouldn't let me. Can anyone help? It would be greatly appreciated. more

Open Question: Which is a better choice? Integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN or External 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN?

I'm special ordering an HP laptop, for general use/multi-tasking (school + heavy Internet usage+ multimedia, etc.. I'm not a gamer) and it's between the HP Pavilion dv6t series (Core i3 (default) or Core i5) and the HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition series (Core i7 only). Besides the processors, the main differences are, of course, the battery ratings (4.5 hours (6 cell) and 3.25 hours (6 cell), respectively) and the Network Cards mentioned in the question. The Pavilion dv6t series comes with the Integrated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN while the Quad Edition comes with the External 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN. Was originally gonna go with the Quad, but thought I'd try to get a cheaper machine (Core i5). Compared the specs and noticed the Network Card difference. If you can, please suggest a machine, of the two, and a hardware configuration, if you'd like, but the priority is which of the two Network Cards is better, overall (not in terms of speed, 'cause that's an obvious one). I'm a college student, and the main thing I'll be using it for is homework, the internet, watching videos, etc. I am not a gamer AT ALL. About the most intense game I might play on my laptop is solitaire. But I do a TON of multitasking. I'm the type of person that at any given time has 3 word documents open, Itunes open, 3 Firefox windows open with like 20 tabs in each.2 or 3 folders open, and a few other random things open. My laptop right now has 2 gigs of RAM and a dual core processor and it still freezes quite a bit. I found an Asus on Costco's website for $549 after mail in rebate. It's considered a thin and light laptop which I like because I will be taking it to school. It also has great battery life (they advertise 10-12 hours, but idk if I believe that). It also has more RAM and a bigger hard drive than my current laptop. Open Question: XP reinstall - now can't connect wirelessly?

I recently had issues with my Dell laptop that I ended up reinstalling XP and all the drivers. Everything looks OK but now I can't connect to my wireless router, which i am using right now on my other laptop and was able to use before the reinstall. The wireless card appears to be working properly (it says it is in the Device Manager) but it constantly says "not connected" and does not recognize any available networks. I am able to connect to the internet through direct ethernet connection, so to me it appears to be improper setup of some kind....please help more

My mom was given this laptop by my grandma who always had used the internet through an ethernet cable. She never gave us any instruction manuels or anything like that so I can't figure out how to do this. God knows how old this thing is. I'm going through all of these menus on the computer and I can't seem to figure out how to turn on the wifi for the laptop. I'm not sure if there's even a wireless card in it, to be honest. I have 2 computers. A desktop with no wireless card but, has an Ethernet card. A laptop with both. The desktop is unable to be in the same room as the router and therefore may not physically connect to it. I tried connecting the desktop with the laptop using an Ethernet cable. Voting Question: Why the difference in a wireless card compared to being directly connected with an ethernet cable?

I know this seems a little backwards, but I have my desktop using a wireless card and my laptop plugged directly into a verizon FIOS wireless router. When I go to speedtest.net and test the speed on my laptop (plugged directly in) it will average a speed of 10.98 Megabytes/sec download time for a server across the country. However, for my desktop (using a wireless card) the average download speed comes out to be 2.01 Megabytes/sec. Why such a big difference?? The wireless card is a Belkin that is less than 2 years old and the computer is now sitting a total of about 3 feet away from the router. more

Open Question: My 2nd PC won't connect to my new router wirelessly or using the ethernet. Could this be a problem with my LAN?

I have recently purchased a Belkin N Wireless router to try and improve gameplay on my partners xbox live. I set up the new router on my laptop quite easily and had no problems setting it up on the 360. I now have an efficient wireless network with my laptop and 360 connected. The major problem I am having is setting up my Desktop PC. It won't find the router at all. I have a wirless adapter on my PC and it connected fine to the siemens router that orange provided but it wont pick up the Belkin. When I click on view available wireless networks it finds 4 or routers from my neighbors but wont show the Belkin. I have tried to make an ethernet connection from the PC to the Router, but the PC still doesn't recognise a router being plugged in although the router shows a wired light on it. Belkin technical support seem to think its a faulty LAN card but i'm not convinced as the connection worked fine before I used the Belkin. Can anyone help me?????? more

I am moving out of state soon for the Disney College Program, and this is the first time I will be taking my laptop when traveling. They said I will need this to pick up the signal. My computer is a model made last year, and is fairly new. I do not entirely understand if I need to buy this.Also, it asks to bring a CAT5 cable. Resolved Question: I just reinstalled windows XP - I NEED HELP!?

I was having some blue screen of death troubles and after trying to fix it with auto recovery I just decided to reinstall windows XP. I installed service pack 1 and now I can't get online. My laptop won't even turn the wireless on anymore, it used to turn on as soon as I turned my laptop on. I looked in the device manager and I have all these things on there that say "Network Controller" "Ethernet Controller" but I can't install them because I don't have a disk and I can't get online. I bought the laptop refurbished about 6 months ago so I don't have the wireless card CD. Is there any way I can get my laptop to go back online? I don't understand why my wireless is not showing up on the computer or turning on when I hit the button.I have tried plugging an ethernet cord directly into the laptop and it still didn't pick up anything. The other computers in my house have internet, thankfully or I wouldn't be typing this! more

Hi all, I just got a new laptop and was wondering if any of you tech people could fill me in on a few things? i am looking at the "Spec" sheet and looking at anything which remotely looks like it is internet related i ahve listed below. Network Card: Ethernet Network USB Adapter Wireless Networking: Intel 5300 WLAN 802.11n (3x3) mini card Mobil Internet: No internet Mobile Broadband Bluetooth Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module (2.1 +EDR) Ok so please do not think that because i have typed this that i know what it or any of this means. I suppose the questions i am looking to have answered are the following - In my home I have a high speed internet connected to a wireless router, will this be able to connect to it with ease? - When am I am working on the road, let say I am stuck in the middle of the city in the back of a cab. Will i be able to to turn it on and get online?
