Open Question: How to change OS from drive D to C? (complicated)?
My laptop sony vaio does'nt start and I figured it out that the problem is that the OS is running in drive D eventhough I only have 1 partition, drive C. It was almost 5 days ago that I took out the hdd of my old and broke laptop and then I bought an enclosure so that I can use it in my new laptop. I formatted the hdd in my new laptop and kept it. My purpose of that hdd is to back-up files. the problem right now, is that startup repair always come out and I tried everything to make it work but still it did'nt work. I tried system restore, safe mode and etc.. and also in the command prompt wherein "volume in drive C is System Reserved" " No directory of C:\" but on drive d it have the directories...but when I open the command prompt "x:windows/system32/cmd.exe.. x??? Do you have any analysis of what's the problem of my laptop? I am trying to release my IP address in command prompt with ipconfig/release but it wont let me it keeps saying no operation can be performed while its media is disconnected. Hi guys I need to transfer a program that I need onto a CD. The program is photoshop and If I cant back this up on a disk I think I Might lose the program. I need to restore my laptop somehow because I think it has a bad Virus. Malwarebytes wont even catch it and says there are no harmful objects, I had avg and that found nothing,Ad-Aware forund nothing, but yet my laptop is really slow for the price I paid and the stuff that is included. I have an old laptop that seems to be having some issues. It's an HP Pavilion dv5000 running Windows XP, and other than being a bit old it's been a reliable computer. There is someone I know online who is saying they are in the reserves and stationed in afghanistan. Here is some info about the situation. The man is 40 years old, very overweight/obese in all pics I have seen of him. He says he cannot give an address out for care packages for maybe a month and it has been over a month with no address. He is online at weird times and often throughout the day in the chat room. He said he was shot in the leg and was back on active duty 3 days later. So far he has told us of 8-10 injuries to his troop. He is on myspace a lot, says he brought his own laptop. Sometimes he'll sign out of chat with....gotta go under morter at. and leave. Can any body who has been actively deployed with reserves tell me about how things are when you are in afghanistan? Would a person have time to be online in chat rooms? My dad hasn't been a father to my sister and I for the past several years. He is always complaining he doesn't have money everytime we ask him for it. And he doesn't do anything with us. He is addicted to the computer and there is never a time when he's not on it. When either me or my sister need to get on the computer to do something important he keeps up waiting, and when we are waiting for him to take us somewhere and he is on the computer he constantly says "I'll take you when I'm done this game". I don't think anyone else's dad sits on the computer all day playing pointless games. Well, that's not all he's doing. My mom has caught him on singles websites. And she has tracked down what he writes to people. He is obviously seeing like a bunch of people. But he denies it every time my mom brings it up. He offers to take girls off of the website who are complete strangers out to eat or to get coffee. And I'm 110% sure he has done it. But when it comes to his kids, he "doesn't have money". The only thing he buys us is food. My mom is the only one who buys us gifts. I haven't gotten a birthday present from him for about 4 years. And my mom is the only one who gave me and my sister stuff for valentine's day, easter, etc; When it comes to his nieces and nephews though, they get $50 visa cards and what not. Oh and when it comes to himself, he'll buy anything. He bought himself a new laptop back in December that no one else is allowed to go on. Me, my mom, and sister aren't close with my dad's side of the family at all. They claim that we only see eachother when there's presents involved. So we stopped going to their functions and inviting them to ours. Except for my dad of course.. he goes to all of their functions. He also constantly lies. Like last night, he told us he was going to get bait for fishing. But my mom got a hold of his phone and he was at some girls house. She found really disturbing texts. And one that was from the girl that said "Come later because my boyfriend didn't leave yet." LIKE WTF? My parents are getting a divorce. They have been unhappy for like 9 years now but basically just stayed together because of me and my sister. But since he's cheating with god only knows how many woman, they are getting divorced. He just doesn't care. My mom has been really unsteady at her jobs. And barely ever has money, but she scrapes down to her last penny to get me and my sister what we need. She paid for everything that my sister needs for college. She reserved her room, and spot for college which was a lot of money. And she is also throwing her a graduation party which is costing over $2,000. My dad claims that he doesn't have money though so he's not helping with anything. I don't know what to do anymore. Ok, I got it 6 hours ago, no biggie. Website doesn't even have any information about the 3.21 update (they still have 3.15's listing) but did it direct-to-console no problem. So right now, the only main thing I know is that it will prevent people who have the phat SKUS from logging online (when update isn't done) and further "enjoying" their consoles as alternate laptops and/or their laptops in that sense. And also, perhaps the single most important factor in Sony getting off their a**es to release a patch, it's supposed main purpose: to thwart any modding and hacking attempts spearheaded by that nerd geohot. And already, geohot has sort off declared war on his end as he is apparently working on the 3.21 already. Hmmm, SCEA needs to prove that 3.21 will live up to its purpose. Personally, I don't have a problem with it. But some people are now clamoring for class action suit, boycott and even switch to other consoles (360 maybe or Wii, yikes!). As for the class action "party" movement, I don't see them winning it as their argument focuses on Sony's supposed non-fulfillment of their advertisement that specifically says it can be used using other OS's (a product feature). BUT these people should remember that the company still reserve the right to change the features and services anytime they want to and it is in the EULA and T&C. Also, Sony can use the argument that is already blatantly announced: TO PROTECT CONSUMERS FROM SECURITY COMPROMISE. And with geohot already declaring war vs SCEA, that only made Sony's case stronger. Hey everyone, I am looking for something ultra-portable but also very efficient. I have a Dell Inspiron 17" laptop that I plan on leaving at my apartment as my main computer, but I want something to act an an extension to that, something I can carry around the college with me. I want something small 9" - 13", but it needs to be very inexpensive. I will only be using it for web browsing, watching videos, email, word processing, etc. Just normal things, no games or extensive programs. That will be reserved for my laptop back at my apartment. I have eyes, so I will try to see what I can about these questions. I have ears, so I will try to hear what I can about these questions. I have a nose , so I will try to smell what I can about these questions. I have a physical body, so I will try to touch what I can about these questions. I have a tongue, so I will try to taste what I can about these questions. *Finally, I have a brain, so I will try to reason what I can with my common sense. First, I see objects. You see objects. I ask this question to get to the root of it. Do objects have creators or have they always existed? May I use science since science is the observation of study of the physical world ( Objects). So why shouldn’t life have warnings to danger? In short, we must listen to warnings to life because they were made to communicate and sound off dangers to of life. In conclusion from my first sense, we must listen to our sound giver about warnings. Third, I smell things. You smell things. Smelling is a good sense too. Why else do we smell if not to smell things? It is good that we smell because we can perceive what is good to eat, and of toxics in the air. So we must smell. If there is no God, Whose perception of good smells takes good and bad smells taste bad came from if our brain is just a vessel to collect information from the outer world. In short, from who/what are we getting this smell good, feel good pleasures if not from someone/something that is warning us and making us feel good. Fourth, I touch things. You touch things. Why do we have a sense of touch if not to touch things? I understand that I touch things to feel that they are real. I myself feel that I am as real as my laptop that I am touching. That is how I feel things are real. Now if the Big Bang is my believe that created the objects that feel real to me. Why shouldn’t I believe the starter of the big bang is not real if he/it physically started the universe. If he/it physically started the universe. He must have felt it by his touch. If I feel things because I am real and feel myself. Why couldn’t he be real if he touched the universe when it got started. Lastly, I taste things, You taste things. Why do we have taste if not to taste things? I understand that I have taste to feel pleasure and displeasure. This person or thing that gave me perception to taste good things and bad are good. It gives me a reason to eat food and live. While it also gives me a reason to not eat bad things and dislike them. Another good point that whom/whatever wants me to like good things and dislike or displeasure bad things. In conclusion therefore I will state the following from my common sense. Being/something who is the controller of my perception gave me sight to see that objects as of the Big Bang theory were started and does not have an eternal existence. It gave me ears to hear warnings and communicate to one another for a reason of good and bad. It gave me a nose to smell of warnings and pleasures. It gave me a feelings of touch to feel what is real to me as the percepter felt the universe when it was physical started as when he felt it. And it gave me taste to warn me and to incline me towards good pleasures and bad pleasures for bad things. This are the things my Heavenly Father teaches and preaches in the bible. This is more of a reason to believe that this being/thing has the same senses as me is an actual being of perception of all senses that he has. As all of this you have read. You must understand that. Whom ever gave you all this sense was give for a rAs all of this you have read. You must understand that. Whom ever gave you all this sense was give for a reason. Okay so quick warning: If you aren't mature and you aren't going to give a helpful answer, please just go away. I've already heard 'just wait' and 'it'll pass' a million times. For months now i haven't been feeling right. I have terrible short term memory, can't concentrate, bad mood, extremely tired, etc.. At first i thought it was some sort of mild depression and so now take 20mg Prozac. Which isn't working one bit! Been taking it for like 2 months now. Anyway, now i'm starting to think it's anxiety and the depression is a just bi-product of the anxiety. When around people i have constant feelings of "what's wrong with me". And just feel unable to join in conversation and would much rather just go back home and sleep. I can't progress in my driving lessons because of this (anxiety?) and such poor concentration because it feels like all of my brain power is reserved for the constant thoughts of anxiety, and so there's no brain power left to think what to do while driving. Every lesson just feels pointless and i feel like such an idiot when the lesson's over. These are just some of the things. The main thing though.. i don't feel like i want to go out anywhere. I don't 'fear' going out like with anxiety, it's just EASIER to stay in and go on my laptop. I know that's pathetic. Any ideas anyone? Please? Ok, so that was a pretty lame title but I thought it would be a bit generic to put the usual such as "Why have my friends drifted away?". That's not why I'm here. I know why they've drifted away and understand the general issues surrounding high school friends and what happens when they leave school;go their seperate ways. Ive already asked this question on here before but this time I'll try not to make it sound like a laptop nerds sob story (which is basically what it is). Anyway... I'm a 19 year old male from Scotland. I left school just over three years ago and during these three years my friends have slowly but surely drifted apart from me. The comparison now to when we first left school, all had no jobs and went day/night fishing about 5 times a week (in season) to now when I havent spoke to most of them for over a year; I've come to the conclusion that I need to get my finger out and do something about it. I see myself as a much different person than 3 years ago anyway. Not as insecure, immature, close minded, sensitive, self conscious. So a bit about my background. Born in Edinburgh, have stayed in a few different places and been to 2 primary schools and 2 different high schools. My dad left home when I was 7, leaving my mother as a single parent to bring up me, and my younger brother and sister. I had a difficult childhood. Its perhaps worth noting that at the age of (approx) 1.5, I got a rare eye infection which the doctors were (and still are) unable to diagnose at the time. It resulted in the complete loss of sight in my left eye. Due to the pupil being destroyed this created an abnormal looking 'defect' if you like, which didnt help in proceeding years. I've since had the infected eyeball removed and now have a prothestic fitted which nobody can tell the difference but up until the age of 16 or so (I honestly cant remember), there was a visible damaged eyeball with a shrunken socket and lowered eyelid, thus making the eye look smaller than my right one. At school, I had trouble socializing with people and would make unprovoked attacks/assaults other pupils in primary school (or so I have been told; I have no recollection of this). I can however vividly remember in high school, being physically unable to find the courage to speak to people and always felt like people were judging me from a very young age because of the eye situation. I was always very reserved in class and only ever had a couple of friends at all the schools i attended But this is no longer the issue; back to 2009. I included that bit in order to try and create a background for your to refer to when reading the next part: I left school, was unemployed for 8 months then got a job at a small local pet foods warehouse where I worked for 8 months. Since Jan 08 I have been working at the local petrol garage and feel settled work wise. Just socially, I feel as though Im missing out. I havent really been properly active; the way I used to be with friends; for at least a year now. I used to have three main friends. First one to drift was Stuart who found new friends at the local call centre and basically moved on. Second one to go was Kev, my old time best friend. He found his girlfriend and quickly became quite reserved to any socializing outside of her. So Im left with Tony, who is turning to the pubs/clubs scene;which doesnt appeal to me at all. Eventually he hooked up with other guys, kept bombarding me with texts messages every weekend wanting me to up the town with him whereas I was happier to do other things such as the night fishing etc. I have been fair and went up a couple of weeks in a row to be sure but then decided that it just isnt my thing. Reasons I dont like the pubs/clubs scene: 1) Due to my self concious nature bred into me from an early age, I dont like crowded places. 2) I dont like a lot of alcohol; about two beers then Im finished. 3) I dislike the (mostly) competitive nature which surrounds the pubs and clubs scene and the whole stereotypical image surrounding what I consider to be a boring and pointless (IMO) generic tradition in modern culture. Ok so my mac has been shutting down unexpectedly when it says i have 30 minutes left or more. No warning or anything. And i downloaded coconutbattery to see what the capacity of it is. It is at 50% with 392 cycles. However.... this battery is somewhat new... not as old as the laptop. Mac recalled some batteries because they could catch on fire. Does anyone remember this? Do you know when it happened? If you do then I would know how old the battery is. I also looked up that there was a batch of bad batteries that will shut down before they should. Now a month or so go it could go down to 8 minutes and then give me a warning saying running on reserve please plug in.... and then suddenly it dropped to shutting down with 33+ minutes left. People said it happened to them and they calibrated their battery and it fixed it. Others said it didn't and they took it to a mac store and got it replaced. I guess my question is. When did the recall happen? And if it hasn't been too long of a time what should i do. My semi-brand new Dell inspiron 1525 laptop wont start up. I got it for Christmas this year so i dont think its old or anything. When i press the power button it loads and passes the dell menu thingy. My wireless connection drops very frequently. It either goes into Limited Connectivity or Drops all connections in my area. (There is about 8 differnt SIDD's in my area and they ALL drop out) They only drop out when i am connected. I did diognose and repair and it said "There is a problem with one or more adapters on this system" I have tryed everything!!!!! IP Stack Repair, Winsock Repair, Reset My Modern, reinstalled my adapter, updated the drivers, windows update, installed latest firmware, changed the channels, uncheck the "Alow this laptop to turn off this device" box, EVERYTHING I use 2 Moderns, (one at my nans, one at my mums) and they both act the same and the moderns are differnt so there should be no excuse. My wireless internet on my Windows Vista laptop keeps dropping into LIMITED CONNECTIVITY or completely disconnecting. it has only recently been doing it. It happens on ALL my connections, and they all have full bars. I have to disable and renable my wireless adapter to get connected for another 5 mins or even a few seconds. There are some players of Sims 3 that are trying to bring up the cheat console in game by pressing Ctrl+Shift+C, but it won't work. If you are one of these players then in all likelihood you are running the game from an HP laptop with Vista. HP has a built in program called HP Care (or something similar to that) that runs concerntly with Vista, it is always active in the background (unless you're an advanced user and you disabled it somehow). The bad news is that Shift+Ctrl+C is a reserved shortcut for HP care, so it cannot be used in Sims 3. The good news is this is easily circumvented: Instead of typing: Ctrl+Shift+C Type this instead: Ctrl+Shift+WindowsKey+C If you typed it correctly, the command line should appear as normal, and you should NOT be booted back to the desktop. Holding down Ctrl+Shift prevents the Windows Key from exiting you from Sims 3. The same problem exists with Sims 2 for the same reason, as has the same fix (I actually discovered the fix from someone who had the same problem in Sims 2) If you aren't running an HP laptop with Vista, it might still be worth a shot, but there are no guarantees it will work of course. I hope this helps the other players (like myself) who couldn't get the cheat console to appear. Please make sure to pass this info on to other forums and the like so everyone is aware.A few things to add: - We all know the Sims 3 hasn't yet been released in stores, no one needs a reminder about this (some of us have friends/family at EA who gave us a copy... *wink, wink* / *shrug, shrug*) - This bug depends upon if a player has an HP laptop. Okay, out of no where my 3 month old Acer aspire laptop turned off while I was away from it. I turned it on and it just went to a blank screen, took the battery out and put it back in to try again. Loaded and came up with a black screen with WINDOWS ERROR RECOVERY at the top and gives me the selection of SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING, and SAFE MODE WITH COMMAND PROMPT. Also the selection of, Start windows normally, it just leaves me to the vista log in, but as soon as I log in it goes to a blank screen with a mouse pointer. Choosing any of the safe modes it goes to a similar black screen with LOADING WINDOW FILES at the top and a lot of system 32 loading across the screen. Then it goes to the vista log in screen but not the right size. When I log in, it takes alot longer than usual. Finally load it comes up with a black screen, and one of those black text file looking things. That says on the top blue bar, Administrator: cmd.exe. On the black bit it says Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6.6001] Copyright <c> 2006 Microsoft Corporation. All Rights Reserved. Use save mode or reserve mode to restart if needed. This is what my laptop says. It had a TON of virus's and when I started to clean and repair it stopped loading windows completely. It gets the wall paper loaded but no icons, task bar, nothing except a small box saying "Data exec. prevention. MS windows. Keyboard History utility has been closed to protect computer." HD light keeps flashing but no whirring and no progress. I put in a Windows XP profession disk I bought but I get the message above. Vicious cycle but I want to fix it. hi everyone. this is really embarrassing but i don't know where else to really go for serious advice. i'm starting to like this kid i know, he's my friend and i've known him since the beginning of the school year. i'm 14 [almost 15] and he's 16. i'm a freshmen and he's a junior.. it makes it really weird, i've never liked someone more than a grade older than me. but that's not why i don't want to like him. i have this very huge fear, that if i begin to like him too much, that nothing would ever work out. he's the kind of quiet, more reserved type of person. i'm more outgoing and i think i'm always the one talking to him first. he says hi to me a lot, though. i love having him as a friend, and i even (kind of jokingly, kind of religiously) declared him my 'godfather', and i keep having these dreams about him. the last one was really weird, he was sick or something, and i guess somehow i had to drive him to the hospital. when we got there everything was weird, there was a weird hall and stair cases. we went down one hall, and up a short stair case and we found some kind of nurse. what was EXTREMELY weird though that in that dream music from 'the godfather' was playing. i've never actually seen the movie, but i play the game. how i've always considered him was kind of like a big brother, but kind of like a person to 'watch out' for me LOL, that sounds weird. kind of like a protector in a way. just in my dreams though. i haven't seen him in 2 weeks. i got sick and missed a week of school right before spring vacation, and my vacation is 2 weeks. so i won't go back for another week, but i'm really anxious to see and talk to him again. we only hang out at school. i don't have his phone number or anything. but we're in the same writing class, and whenever i see him somewhere else [like the gym or something] i'm always like "hey *his name* !' and he comes over to were i am. he's cool to hang out with. he's always reading some huge book and he let's me read some of it.. it's poetry stuff that i don't really understand at all. he seems really interested in the books though. i guess i realize now that i think he's kind of cute, (very adorable maybe) but in no way can i see any kind of a 'relationship'. if i actually like him, it would just be too weird to be around him anymore, or see him even. i feel like crying because i don't want to lose him as a friend. he seems kind of depressive sometimes about his grades, he's afraid he won't graduate and stuff and he tries to give me advice, and tells me not to repeat his mistakes. he even told me once that he just sits in his room and stares at the wall because he feels like he dug himself a hole too big to get out of. i forget exactly what he said, but that's the closest way to explain it without me remembering, i guess. we're always walking and talking with each other when we see each other. he has an amazing personality for someone who you would think might be stuck up or something. the last guy i liked, was just an asshole i guess. but i've ended up liking the last guy for about 4 months. i was friends with the last guy, too. the guy i like now, he is very mature, and i'm kind of the opposite. we have almost like a father-son relationship lol! even though we're at the same school, kind of close in age. when i 'declared' he was my godfather, during a sophomore/freshman writing test (i finished early) he grabbed one of the school laptops and we searched google to see what the laws were on having a godfather as a religious thing, if there were any. and if there were any papers he needed to sign, etc. he told me he's not religious though lol. i still consider him a godfather! it seems basically like everytime we hang out it's kind of a 'bonding' thing and i'm a young grasshopper. I recently upgraded to the new version of msn/live messenger when prompted. It'd been annoying me for a while so I just went ahead as I've always done whenever the new versions came out. However, since installing this new job all it does is fail. Attempts to sign in, the little heads whir around as usual but then after a few moments sends me back to the "Welcome Back" screen. Net is connected as before but just the plain sign in screen. None of my email addresses work. Tried setting up new account on uk msn and then accessing that. Still no joy. Won't work on laptop, netbook or in library either. On any account. Isn't just reserved to mine either. My mum, a few friends are having similar issues. Anyone have any idea what is happening?
