Open Question: EuroPC (UK) - how many people have received shoddy goods and service?

I had a supposedly "new or unused" Dell laptop delivered this morning. I had bought it from EuroPC, a company from whom I have enjoyed excellent service in the past. The rubber feet were worn, labels (including licence) were damaged and re-glued. There was a ring of ink round the mouse pad. The body was scratched and the keyboard and screen looked as if someone had dragged a dirty mop over them. I telephoned immediately and they were supposed to get back to me with details of how they were to replace it. Several hours later, nothing. Has anyone else been sent damaged goods by EuroPC and then been met with total indifference?Should have mentioned - for sake of first answer. They allegedly had 100 of that model in stock. And they have plenty of people taking orders. They could have got back had they wanted, but are clearly more interested in new sales than putting things right. Anyway, I've now told them to collect it as it is woefully misdescribed. more

Open Question: Why wont the Toshiba buttons work?

I have a Toshiba Satellite P300-1FN. I tried to install windows 7 but now the media buttons next to the power button wont work. I have tried updating the Toshiba Value added Package software and BIOS but nothing happens. They don't light up but the logo and touch pad strip do. I have looked through the BIOS and used the recovery disc to reset the laptop to vista with the original drivers but absolutely nothing is happening. Are they broken for eternity or is there a solution? please help its really annoying. more

Open Question: How do I re-install Toshiba Hardware?

I tried upgrading to Windows 7 using upgrade discs from Toshiba. However once the upgrade was complete the function keys (Mute/Illuminations, Media player, Play, Stop, skip back and skip forward) stopped functioning. I went into the BIOS and turned on the illuminations and only the Satellite logo and white strip above the touch pad come on. I have used a Toshiba Recovery disc to reinstall the laptop back to the state at which I received it but this has not sorted the problems? Is there any way to reinstall the hardware for these buttons as I have looked at button support and they are programmed correctly. more

Whenever I'm playing an online game, (doesn't matter which one) my mouse will go to the bottom left corner of the screen (where the start button is). It is not the mouse because when I use the touch pad it does the same thing.( This is a laptop) Sometimes it's so bad that I can't even bring the mouse to the center of the screen. Open Question: Anyone have experience with the compaq mini laptop?

I just got a compaq mini laptop and I am about to loose my mind with trying to get it to connect to the internet. I'm not stupid with computers and I know connecting to the internet is very simple but this stupid thing just WON'T connect. Also, I plugged in a mouse (USB) and it installed the driver, worked fine, but NOW it won't use the touch pad. So I can only use the USB mouse... helllllpppppppppp??????? more

Open Question: What e-Reader/ more questions.?

I am looking for a perfect e-Reader, but I am very picky and will not get something if I can't find many specifications on them. I really liked the Apple I-pad that came out recently and was wondering if the 3G network was required because I'm not willing to pay $30 a month for network that I can get almost anywhere I'll use it because of Wi-fi. I also was wondering which book formats are used on this and can you write on the books you read, like as notes. Basically I want to know how good of an e-Reader this is. I also liked the Que reader and how you can put your calendar in there and basically use it as a PDA. What I like the most for school-related work is the WiseReader N526 because it has a stylus you can use to write on and it will recognize handwriting, but I don't think I'm considering it because I'm not sure if these tablets will actually replace laptops. Lastly, should I just wait and save up my money for a little while longer because all these companies might come out with something better? Open Question: Thinking of either getting a HP TouchSmart tm2t or a Cintiq 12WX. Which would be a better buy?

I'm going to school for graphic design and I really need something easier to work with than a standard computer. I would really like to have a laptop so I can carry it with me and I really like the smart touch features of the HP TouchSmart tm2t because I can draw right on the screen. That's way easier to do than using a mouse or a pen and pad tablet. If I do a payment plan, it's only about $29 a month. The total up front cost is $950. Issues: I already have 2 desktops but they're both pretty old (though they work). I can't carry them around but I feel like it might not be necessary for me to have a laptop when I have two desktops. An alternative is a Cintiq 12WX which is an on-screen touch graphics tablet that you can just hook up to your computer. I really like this because it's touch screen. However, I can't bring it to classes because it'd have to be hooked up to one of my desktops and that's not good when I'm commuting. It's also more pricey and I don't think WACOM offers payment plans like HP does and it costs $1000. But, like I said, that'd have to be one payment. So, what do you guys think?I know how to work Macs but if I can choose what to use for now, I would prefer Windows. Macs suck a*s and their graphics aren't good enough to balance out how bad they function. Macs might be what is used but I'm buying something that is more personal. If I want to work on a Mac, I can go to the school but I'm not only going to be using it for school, I'm going to be using it personally. I hate Macs. I cannot stand them in the slightest. I think they're over priced. They look better but they aren't worth the money you dish out for them.And, again, if I'm going to get a tablet, I want touch screen. I hate having to look up at the screen and not watch my hands. I want a touch screen so unless you know of another touch screen by another company for cheaper, I really don't care. I don't mean to sound rude but I really hate the fact that people shove Macs in your face whenever you mention you're an art student and you need a laptop. Screw Macs and their crappy functioning. The freeze like no one's business, they can barely stand the multi-tasking I need to do, the only good programs originally for Macs is Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and iTunes and those can but put on Windows computers. I also don't like how slow they are slower than a 13 year old computer with dail-up. I. CANNOT. STAND. MACINTOSH. more

Open Question: Compaq Presario V2000 Help please?

So, i got a theoretically broken compaq presario for 60 bucks, and much to my delight, when i bought a power cable for it, it worked just fine. so i put in my 160 gig HDD, loaded XP pro, and everything went well, or so i thought. Turns out, all the disc loaded was the regular OS and basic display drivers. Now after a few days of painstaking research, i finally have most of my drivers installed, but am missing a few... first, i need to know where i can get synaptec touch pad drivers THAT WORK for this laptop, and card reader drivers. I've tried all the drivers from the HP website, and none of them work... so if you could help me figure out where to get drivers for this thing, or make the components work without drivers, i would be very appreciative. Resolved Question: The scroll bar on my laptop isn't working? Help please!?

Yesterday, the scroll bar on the mouse pad was working fine, now suddenly it's stopped working. The little scroll symbol comes up (like a mouse pointer with scroll symbol) but nothing happens, just stays still. I went to control panel, vertical scrolling is checked so that's not the problem. I haven't spilt anything on it, so what could be the problem and how can I solve it? Thanks. more

Open Question: Xbox 360 System link question?

Here's the situation, im in Iraq right now and want to system link Xbox's with other soldiers on base...the internet service we have here is one of those system's where you have to sign-in with a username/password everytime you open IE...my Ethernet cable is simply plugged from my ethernet port on my laptop to the small ethernet port in the wall for connection to internet...When i system link with ppl in my same pad On Xbox 360, i plug the ethernet cable from the wall to my xbox...Now, i want to connect with ppl on the other side of base on XboX. I know that a wireless adapter on every xbox would work, but not all of us have one...so my question is, Can i set up a system link thorugh the ethernet cable AND still connect with other's using the wireless adapter at the SAME TIME? For Clearity, If "A" ,"B" and "C" are system linking through Ethenet Cables, can "D","E" and "F" connect with "A","B" and "C" useing a wireless adapter if "C" is the game Host and has a wireless adapter plugged in while he's system linking through Ethernet Cables???? P.S.- the game we're linking is COD:MW2....Go figure eh lol more

Open Question: When I install my mouse drivers, my touchpad drivers are deleted.?

And vice versa. With touchpad drivers, I can use the scrolls on the side of the touch pad, and use the the middle click function by pressing both buttons at once. When I install my mouse drivers I lose the functionality. When I install the touchpad drivers again I lose the ability to map the buttons on my mouse. It's a real pain, I need both. Open Question: Computer FPS lagging problem while on games?

Well when I first got my laptop it was in half-way of 2008. I played some small time games like Counter Strike: Source, some other really old games and GTA: San Andreas. I never EVER lagged on any of them, in fact I always had like 80 FPS on GTA and CS:S. My laptop isn't the best at all, my specs are: CPU: AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-82 Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics RAM: 4GB Also the space on my computer is: Total Free: 170.23 GB/298.09 GB Now, I started FPS lagging like maybe two months ago while playing GTA and CS, which it wasn't bad. Just some small like 10 second 10 FPS lag and then back up. But it went worse and worse and now I lag every minute or two badly. I used to be able to play on highest settings for both games without any trouble but now I can't even play on the lowest without lagging. I guessed I had a virus so I scanned my laptop, I didn't have one. So I'm guessing it's because my laptop is overheating(yes I can feel it overheating but it always did that) and maybe my cooling pad is dieing out. Anyways... if anyone knows how to fix this it would be apperciated. I'm either going to get it cleaned and buy a new cooling pad and if that doesn't work; restore it. I'm not looking to go crazy and play like GTA4 or some game like that. I just want to play some old bad graphic games. Any help? more

Open Question: My 2 month old HP laptop makes grinding/clicking/scratching noises?

The 2 month old laptop makes these weird noises that seem to come form the right side-probably the hard drive. I was using a cooling pad, so I never heard these noises before but now I do. I listened for a couple of minutes and there are two noises one right after the other and then a 3-7 second silence and then the cycle repeats itself. I used the HD scanner thing in the BIOS and it said that it passed. So is my hard drive about to die??? Should I replace my computer??? more

Ever since I clean installed Windows 7 64 bit Professional I cannot get my VGN-FW290J laptop touch pad to scroll left and right on Firefox, Chrome, Photoshop Elememts, or inside XP Mode. The scroll function works fine in IE8, folders and Windows Media player. Left click button stopped working, not even tapping the mouse pad works If i try to swap the buttons in "mouse settings", in control panel, its the right button that stops working, and tapping the mouse pad launches that little menu just like right-click does. My left-click on HP 530 laptop doesnt work. I've had this problem for months now even tapping the mouse pad. Voting Question: My laptop touch pad freaks out, and won't move.?

An odd thing keeps happening to my HP DV2120's touch pad. The touch pad's tap-to-click stops working, and the mouse moves rapidly and erratically - but ONLY in a vertical line. It's not a slow, drifting movement, but more like you are putting your finger on the keypad and flinging your finger up and down as fast as you can. When I touch the pad, it stops, but will still only move in a vertical line. Then when I let go, it goes twitchy again. I have a USB mouse that works just fine when I plug it in. more

My sister is wanting a certain item for her 17th birthday which is in February. She likes to write and draw and wanted this item to draw and write directly onto the laptop and save the files. I think it is either called Note Pad (Not the program that is similar to Wordpad), Draw Pad, Write Pad or maybe something totally different. I am not sure what exactly it is called as I have tried Yahoo and Google searches on each of these words and can not find what I am looking for. I have seen these demonstrated on videos I have found on the internet in the past so I know what they look like, just unsure of the name. If I dont know the name I cant search places that sell them so I can get my sister one. Voting Question: My Toshiba Sattelite laptop says 0% plugged in, not charging...Why?

It just started recently. I am at 0% plugged in, not charging. and i am running just from the outlet, and if i unplug it then i die. Also the little lights by the mouse pad a red battery symbol started charging. Im not sure what that means. The computer is only a couple years old and its wierd because it charges fine when the laptop is off. I have looked around online and saw many people with this problem and no solutions.. I have tried to uninstall the charger driver and reinstall with no success. I have updated the BIO's and no success. I have taken the battery out incase it was loose or anything with no success. I plugged in an Apple Mighty Mouse into my Acer Aspire 5536 laptop a few days ago so I could use the mouse more easily.
