Laptop Pc Graphics Card Questions asked

Open Question: What would be a good laptop for me?

Hey guys, I've been looking around the internet for a while and it's been hard for me to chose a good laptop for my needs. Mostly because i don't know much about PC specs. The reason i want a laptop is for school. well sorta :P anyhow, what i mostly do, during i'm on the PC, is browse the net, download/listen to music and blog. So in other words, i love multitasking. What i want on my laptop is alot of memory, 500GB and 4GB or RAM. Here's my problem, graphics card & processors. I like speed on a pc, who dosent? but i want the speed to last long.. about the graphics card, i don't want any high end stuff, i just want to be able to play, per example, mass effect 2 with normal graphics. not Xbox 360 graphics because i know that will cost me alot of money (and i have a 360) This ASUS really got me interrested; http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=45974 but then i asked on a forum i am on, and someone said "That ASUS model is made to be slim and energy efficient, which cuts away at powerful components. The CPU in that is lacking.`` I loved the way that pc looked.. So now i don`t know what do to. so i ask for your help, please. Thank you. @JulianCilib more

Open Question: need help deciding on a laptop.?

ok so im looking to buying a laptop here coming up two weeks for school. the majority of the time i will only be using it for is playing music on youtube and surfing the web all while writing a word document.wll also be using the webcam for live chats with friends and gf but my main tackle in deciding is my need to mix Business with play with a tight budget. i want to know which of these computers would be best for both my multitasking needs and having the ability to run a pc game during my off time between classes. dont have any high expectations just something along the line of final fantasy or if possible dialing down the game settins and playing modern warfare 2 would be amazing(even stooping as low as something with nintendo ds graphic games is fine). have 5 laptops in mind that ill list the specs below. dell studio 15 laptop- processor..intel pentium dual core t4300(2.1 ghz/800mhz fsb/1mb cache) ram..3 gb shared dual channel ddr2 at 800mhz hard drive..250 gb sata hard drive( 5400 rpm) video card.. intel graphcs media accelerator 4500mhd inspiron 14- processor.. intel core i3 330m ram.. 2gb 5400 rpm hard drve.. 250gb 5400 rpm video card.. intel hd graphics SamsungModel: R522-FA02US - processor..Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor ram.. 3 gb ddr2 video card..Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD few more but those are my top 3 picks. oh ya one more question whats the difference between a 14.0" HD WLED and a 14.0" High defintion (720p) LED display wth Truelife which is better? i kind of get the feeling there the same screen just someone felt the long name sounded fancy. more

Open Question: Graphics/Video Card Question: Do I need to Upgrade?

I know next to nothing when it comes to computer hardware, so forgive me. I was looking at a PC game and was looking at whether or not my lil laptop could handle it. After going to the "Can You Run It?" site, I was told that my video card was not good enough to support it. I was given this message: "Minimum: A T&L-capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM. ATI Radeon series 8500 or better, NVIDIA GeForce series GeForce2 GTS and better You Have: ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M Series (0x5955)" But what it said underneath seemed to contradict that. It says that the minimum video ram required was 32 MB, and that I had 128 MB, and that I had 3D and Hardware T&L as required. Nowhere does it state where the card I have currently is lacking. So, should I assume it's probably good enough anyway? If not, how/where would I find out what graphics/video card I need that's good with my laptop? Thanks more

Open Question: Why are 10-year-old PC games lagging on my new laptop?

I have a Windows 7 64-bit laptop with 4GB ram, 2.1 Ghz processor and an ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics card, yet when I try and play Grand Prix 3 on it it lags horrendously when there are more than a couple of cars in view, and also when on the grid. I cannot fathom a possible reason why my new laptop is struggling to run this very old game, especially as my housemate runs Vista and has a much lower spec PC than mine, yet on his machine it plays flawlessly. Any thoughts appreciated. Thank you in advance. more

Voting Question: Macbook pro or Alienware m15x?

I am a PC user and I want to try something new. I am planning on getting the macbook pro hopefully within a month if they release the i5 processor on their macbook pro. As well on the side, I am debating whether to get the alienware m15x. And I just found out that you can't really install exe file on a mac.... And I don't really know what to do. I know I can do a dual boot. But what would be a upside and downside for both laptops??? Resolved Question: What is the best Laptop out there at the moment?

Hey- I'm looking to buy a laptop, and at the moment there is a debate between Apple's and PC's. Both have their perks, and for the Apple I am looking at the 15" 2.8 GHz, but am unsure if there are any similar out there for the PC. It's been recommended for the PC I look at buying a Toshiba, HP or Sony. I'll be using the laptop for primarily graphics work, so even if a graphics card could be recommended I'd be grateful. Thank-you in advance. The graphic work I will be doing will not involve gaming, but the use of Adobe PS, and movie editing software. I'd like to game, but it isn't high on my priority list.Price at the moment is not an object. As I am willing to spend $3000 on a Mac. Because I want a good Laptop that will last. more

Voting Question: How can I find the best current gaming laptop?

I'm relatively knowledgeable when it comes to gaming PCs, in that I can generally identify good specs over poor ones. I currently have a relatively good gaming desktop PC which is a quad core with 4GB of DDR2 ram and 2 Radeon 3870 cards, and my gaming laptop is far less impressive, with 4GB of DDR2 ram, a dual core processor, and a laptop graphics card... I'm looking to upgrade my gaming laptop, by a relatively large margin. How can I find the current best options for laptop? I've checked Cnet, tons of websites... It's hard to find gaming laptops with unbiased reviews, and it's also hard to find current articles, as the majority of the articles i find are from mid 2009.... Does anyone have any opinions or advice on what I should get, or where I can find some GAMING laptop reviews that are relevant and recent? Thanks more

Voting Question: Which of these laptops is the better deal?

1.) 16" , mobility 5730, i7 720QM (1.6~2.8ghz) w/ turbo 4gb ram, 500gb HD at 72000rpm, windows 7 Price: $1,033 2.) 15.6" , mobility 4650, Intel Dual-Core 2.0ghz w/ 1mb L2 Cache), 2gb ram, 160gb HD, Price: $834 The problem here is that the first computer adds a huge amount of stuff for only $200 extra. It's one of those marketing tricks again. I don't know if I should save money and stick with the 2nd one or buy the 1st one because it triples the drive space, superior graphics card and better processor. More RAM too. Windows 7 eats up 19 - 20 percent of my PC's 6gb RAM so I'm guessing that it'll take about 1.2gb of RAM just to run. They don't have the windows XP choice. I really just need the laptop to take to school so I can jot down some info, work some beneficial software at school and so forth. I might play games on it but I have a PC for that. Probably play games when I'm on the road. more

Resolved Question: How much will a decent laptop cost me?

I am thinking about buying a new laptop within the next year or so. The current one i have is a lump of shit that freezes, overheats, has a virus, and has 200mb of RAM. it sucks. How much will a (lets say Dell) laptop cost me that has around 3-4GB of RAM, a decent graphics card for mmorpg's and then some? how much memory should i get as well? i use my 360 most of the time and my other pc is more for stationary work, badass games like crysis and MW2. so yeah, im mainly on my 360 and main pc. but i need a new laptop, they're convenient and nice to have when someone else is on the other computers (we have 3). btw im 15. more

Voting Question: Will my laptop's system requirements be able to play the Sims 3?

I meet virtually every system requirement on my Windows Vista Home Basic laptop, EXCEPT: I have a 2.2 Gigahertz processor, not the recommended 2.4. And I have lovely RAM (2.0), a rather skillful graphics card, and when I run it in high performance mode, everything runs swiftly and smoothly. So my question is this: With virtually everything else top-notch on my computer, will my PC be able to withstand The tyrannic, systemically requiring Sims 3? (Even if I can play it with somewhat little lag, perhaps on Medium to Low graphics level, I'd be happy.) For anyone who can give me a well-informed answer, I thank you fervently.Bluekatt, do you mean "vague"? And Tarandeep, thank you for what would ordinarily be a wonderful answer if I hadn't already tried systemrequirementslab and found that it was bizzarely unable to enter the site, then absent-mindedly forgotten to tell you that. And once again Bluekatt, I would tell you the hard numbers instead of being "vague," (correct spelling, thank-you-very-much) if I could actually find my graphics card's numbers at all, without having to look at the card itself, which is built into a place that I cannot find without opening up the laptop. I do not want to do this. Frankly, I found your entire answer to be "vaugely" arrogant. more

Resolved Question: Building my first desktop pc from scratch, can you help?

Right im about to build my first ever desktop computer and have found almost all the components I require. I hope to learn a lot from this experience but still have a few questions that need answering, as you can imagin! Here is my set up so far: - Intel i5 750 processor - Gigabyte P55-US3L motherboard - Sapphire ati HD 5770 1GB graphics card - 1TB Samsung F3 HDD 7200rpm - 2x2gb Kingston DDR3 1333MHz RAM All of this is setting me back about £525 and I have the OS (Win 7), the mouse, keyboard and monitor (Samsung 23" Syncmaster XL2370 1960x1080). Now my first question is what size PSU do I need for this set up? Is 450W enough? 650W?... 750? Secondly, do processors come with cooling paste? I wont be overclocking but I will be needing some bog standard paste... Thirdly, would it be possible for me to grab an optical drive (DVD+/-RW) from an old laptop and use that on the set up? It would be from a 5 year old dell Inspiron. I will also be needing a case but that shouldnt be a problem. If you have any recommendations or can see that I have missed something out, please let me know. Many thanks for your help... much appreciated! more

It has free postage, £276 winter sale off and I have a 10% discount code. some components are: 8192MB 1067 MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [4x2048] Intel Core i7-860 (2.80GHz, 8MB, L3 Cache) 750GB Serial ATA (7200RPM) Hard Drive Single 1GB Nvidia GeForce GTS 240 Graphics Card This comes to £800 which i think is pretty neat. Although i am also tempted with the Dell Aleinware m15x Laptop. Is this more powerful just am not sure as it is a laptop? The laptop would also be an extra £300. Here are the specs for the Laptop: PROCESSORIntel® Core™ i7 Processor 720QM (1.60Ghz, 6MB L3 cache) MEMORY4096MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048] GRAPHICS CARD1GB NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX260M graphics card HARD DRIVE500GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive Which am i better off betting for gaming? I know a bit about computers and i seems to me the Studio XPS is better with the RAM and Processor. But was after a second opinion. Many Thanks more

Voting Question: My Laptop Won't Let Me Play Second Life Anymore!?

Okay, so my laptop is a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC and the graphics card is "383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS with DirectX 10." I used to be able to play Second Life, vSide, and all these virtual worlds on my computer, but now it won't let me anymore! I recently by accident was cleaning out my registery and deleted the 'boot.exe' file, but now I installed everything back onto my laptop with this new backup installation CD that just came out for my laptop, "HP Upgrade Manager." So now I am fully upgraded to Windows 7 as well. Why can't I play these game anymore? It let me before my computer crashed and I installed Windows 7! Does it have to do with installing Windows 7? Or does it have to do with deleting the 'boot.exe' file and maybe my laptop forgot to install something onto it when I reinstalled everything with the "HP Upgrade Manager," CD? (That's the backup CD I installed to fix my laptop with.) Please help! I want to get back to vSide and Second Life again! :( more

Resolved Question: How well do laptop cooling stations work?

I've noticed that my laptop overheats and makes it difficult to run almost any kind of program or software. For example, I used to play an online game called Maplestory, but I got bored of it and deleted it. I recently decided to start playing it again and i downloaded it. I start to play, have about two minutes or so of fairly smooth gameplay, then my laptop overheats and the lag becomes so bad that the game is unplayable. I know this isn't because my internals aren't good enough because it ran smoothly before and I usually aren't bothered by it but now I am fed up and just want to play a game. So to get to the point, would getting a cooling station be a wise decision? Do they have a large impact on the heat or do they hardly make a difference? I am only 15 so I am on a VERY TIGHT budget. I was considering: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Targus+-+Laptop+Chill+Mat+-+Gray/9285604.p?id=1218074556359&skuId=9285604&st=laptop%20cooler&cp=1&lp=9 Do you know of this brand? Would this particular station be good enough for me? PS: Suggestions are very welcome. PSS: Here are my laptop's specs: Model: HP Pavilion dv2700 Notebook PC Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 TL-60 2.00GHz RAM: 3.00GB Graphics Card: Some NVIDIA card. more

Resolved Question: The Saboteur Disc Read Installation Error?

OK I just bought The Saboteur around 2 hrs ago and I have been trying to install it for the past 1hr/30mins and when I try to load it in the Disc Drive it says the disc is full, but blank, so I go into the disc and it has the files in there. I have tried this on my external CD Drive and my PC Disc Drive. Both have the same problem. Specs: OS: Windows Vista SP2 Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 @ 2.01GHz Graphics/Video Card: ATi Mobility Radeon HD2400 (Yes it is a laptop) RAM (Random Access Memory): 2.0GB External Disc Drive: BUFFALO MediaStation Portable DVD Drive (Reads all types of CDs and DVDs) Internal Disc Drive: Some Random Toshiba drive that was already in the computer. Computer can run all Call of Duty's, Halo 1 and 2, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, TimeShift, Need for Speed SHIFT and all of those higher Tech games including Assassins Creed on HIGHEST (note its in caps) graphical and sound quality settings with minimal lag. I don't know what the hell is going on every game runs perfectly fine and installed perfectly fine. Also the Graphics card has 871MB RAM with 100 or so being used so around 756MB for games so 2.756GB ram total more

Resolved Question: Need help finding a good gaming PC (on budget)?

I'm looking for a good gaming computer whether it be a desktop or laptop, Really need it to be low on cost. I would like to play games such as Call of Duty MW2, and World of Warcraft, etc on high settings if possible but can't spare too much for a computer unfortunately so may have to go lower. Certainly need a better one than I have now which is a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop which has probably an integrated graphics card. Looking for suggestions and any details or personal experiences with whichever pc's you are suggesting. ThanksBudget being as cheap as possible without being a piece of crap for lack of better words. more

Voting Question: What is the relationship between RAM and graphics on a PC?

I just bought a new laptop and i would like to play modern warfare 2 on it. The specs are as follows: 2.1ghz dual core processor, 4gb memory (RAM), 128mb dedicated graphics memory. Since I can't take apart my computer to put in a new graphics card (in place of my pre-installed crappy one), would increasing my ram improve graphics substantially or is it not worth the time and money? Oh, and the minimum video setting for mw2 is a 256mb card. Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Which computer whould you get?

Im in the market for a low cost computer that does everyday things and plays World of Warcraft well. I know WoW isint one of the most graphical demanding games but I would like it to run at a smooth 60 frames if possible with high settings. The two computers that are in my price range are. 1.http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=12347221 ( Seems to be a nice computer but no monitor and terrrible graphics with a power supply upgrade needed). 2.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Acer+-+Aspire+Laptop+with+AMD+Athlon%26%23153%3B+Single-Core+Processor/9555769.p?id=1218127632130&skuId=9555769 Number 2 seems kind of cheap but the reviews seem good and the only thing I see lacking is the cpu and graphics card. I never owned a laptop before but this ones a little cheaper and in the customer reviews the first one was from a guy who said that the best thing about it is its upgradeable and can out perform laptops approaching $1000 when upgraded. I need help choosing a pc. I dont want to run any other game other than WoW, and as long as the pc runs smoothly when browsing the web, listening to music and watching youtube videos, then im fine. If you can think of an alternative choice for under 400 bucks or maybe a little more please let me know.It dosent have to have a nice graphics card as long as I can upgrade the graphics. more
