I have a Acer Aspire Notebook 5735Z Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3400 @ 2.16GHz Windows Vista 32bit 4gb RAM 250gb HDD mobile intel r 4 series express chipset family I'm trying to play DotA, a game that runs through the WC3 engine (warcraft 3). This game is from I think around 2002 and needs very little requirements to run it. The minimum requirement are Minimum System Requirements: 400 MHz Pentium II or equivalent, or a 400 MHz G3 processor or better. Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. Warcraft III requires Mac OS® 9.0 or higher, or Mac OS X® 10.1.3 or higher Warcraft III requires 128 MB of RAM. Open Question: My computer does not load--only a black screen?

So I have a Windows Vista and yesterday I restarted my computer (normally) and then my computer turned on again, gave me the HP logo thing, then showed Windows Vista and the green bar loading and then when it should be loading my desktop, it's just completely black. Strange thing is, I can still see my mouse. All I see is my mouse and I can move it freely but everything is black and I can't do anything. I forced restarted with the power button and ran it in safe mode. The desktop loads when in safe mode but it looks like it's windows 98 or some crap and everything is extremely big in size. I can't even access the net and all my sound is automatically disabled for some reason. Can anyone? I'm currently on my laptop. more

Voting Question: HELP! My brand new DV6 HP Laptop just shut off by itself... and won't turn back on!?

I was only on the computer for maybe 10 minutes. I got offline, then went to start up a video game for windows 98, that I ALWAYS play on my Windows 7 laptop... the CD in the drive began to spin and the screen went blank as if the game was launching itself like normal. But then the computer just failed and me and turned off, without even saving anything for me! It was NOT a normal dead-battery automatic shut off... Now I am trying to charge it. I plugged in the charger, and the light around the plug (on the laptop) turns on when the charger is plugged in, but the other light that normally blinks to show it's charging, is not blinking. The computer will not turn on- it's BRAND new! Is it the old video game that made my computer fail? Why did the game trying to launch itself make it shut off? Voting Question: Where to buy a cheap laptop computer?

My current home computer has Windows XP for an operating System. I know that some people say that ANY Windows system will work, with my files. I say that thids is "Phony-Balony". I have tried disks, recorded on Windows 95, 98, 98(se), 2000, NT, and so on. No operating system will read recordings not made on that exact system. This is why I need a recommendation on where to find a cheap laptop computer. I dont need net access, bi-lingual, etc. All I need is a machine which operates on Windows XP, and has drives, for floppy disks (if possible), and a CD - DVD reader/driver/burner. I also need a machine which uses WordPad, for Word Processing. Thats what I am using, now, and I know it will only work with other wordpad software. Ami I full of "Phony-Balony", myself, to think that someone would be willing tpo part with a basic machine, for around $100.00? If not, how much should I be prepared to spend, say for a unit, with 12-15 inch screen? Any suggestions? more

Resolved Question: Why do I always have to reset my router?

I have Charter (Internet/Digi Cable/Phone) and weve always had this problem (4 years now). Charter does some kind of test without even being here and says everything checks good, and that we have a VERY strong signal going to our house. There is 1 laptop, and 1 desktop in our house (Used to be just 2 laptops). Older laptop was running XP Pro, new laptop is Windows 7, desktop is 7 Ultimate, and its the same on all of them. (Laptop/s are WiFi, desktop is Ethernet). Usually once a day, I have to unplug my router for 15 seconds, otherwise the little " /!\ " icon shows on my taskbar, where it shows the connection. Sometimes weve went for weeks without it happening, sometimes it happens 5 times a day. Its both computers, not just one. 98% of the time unpluigging the router fixes the problem, and the other 2% I have to unplug both the router and modem. When I had my old laptop, with Vista Ultimate, I could usually "Troubleshoot" the connection (It was called something else for Vista, I think "Diganose Connection Problems" or something) and that would fix it 99% of the time, but a few times, I had to actually hold the RESET button on the back of the router for 28 secs. Its a Linksys router, its less than 5 months old, its a Wireless G with Rangebooster, we had a Linksys before, but a different model, which also did the same thing. Its not really a huge issue, but its getting really annoying if im in a rush, I gotta duck under my desk and unplug it. Im about to hardwire the power cord to a switch by my keyboard lol. I have the game Total Club Manager 2004 on my laptop and I have installed it and when I try to run it on compatibility mode Windows 95, it starts and loads up, then when you press new game, it crashes and a message programme has stopped working. I am on windows vista and I have tried the other compatibilty modes, Windows 98/ME, Windows NT 4.0 (Service pack 5), Windows 2000, Windows XP (Service pack 2), and Windows Server 2003 (Service pack 1). None of these work, some don't even start up and others start then do the same when you attempt to start a new game. Below are settings which I have none of them ticked; Run in 256 colors, Run in 640x480 Screen Resolution, Disable visual themes, Disable desktop connection, Disable display scaling on high DPI settings. Do any of these matter? Please help me get it working, its a classic and its getting irritating!!! more

Resolved Question: Why is my old laptop so laggy at startup?

I have a very ancient laptop (a Dell Latitude) that was upgraded to Windows Me. After a long while, I decided to take it out to use again and I noticed that it takes so much to startup. I cant even move the mouse freely because its so slow. Its definitely not lack of space and not lack of memory because it should be enough to run normally. But when I run it in Safe Mode, it runs normally and quickly. Should I downgrade to Windows 98 so that it can run normally? because maybe by upgrading to Me, it slowed down alot due to the large amount of memory it might use. Or what other suggestion should I do. *DO NOT BOTHER ME BY SAYING 'GET A NEW LAPTOP'. I ALREADY HAVE MODERN LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS. Okay I've got this laptop that I'd like to replace, but since I don't have the money I have no choice but to fix up the laptop I currently have..... It's an HP that runs Windows XP Professional. Problem One: When I first got it, it was used... And it ran slower than hell even with virtually 98% of the memory remaining and no startup tasks or anything. I'm no expert on computers, but I KNOW a computer isn't supposed to do that. How do I make the laptop run faster? I'm using this laptop to run games as well, so it would be a big help. Problem Two: My laptop's battery is friggen weird. If I take it off of the charge, it says it has 80% battery, and over an hour remaining, but five minutes later I check and it says 33% and thirty minutes remaining. I don't know what's going on with that, but I know i've needed a new battery, but I can't afford that either. How would I make my battery store enough power to be portable? I REFUSE TO DO THE FREEZING TRICK BECAUSE I AM KLUTZY ENOUGH AS IT IS, AND I DON'T WANT TO RUIN THE LAPTOP OR BATTERY ANY MORE THAN THEY ARE. Problem three: My laptop weighs about seven pounds, which is NOT portable for me. I would like to take my laptop and tote it around, but at seven pounds I just cannot do it. How would I fix this problem?Well, i'd rather have a free way for #2, if at all possible, but not the freezing hack, since i'd probably fuck it up and electrocute myself.I don't know what programs I don't need, since it used to be a work computer and has all that crap on there and I don't know if I should delete all of it or not. more

Voting Question: How to get rid of a black boarder that is surrounding the main screen of my laptop.?

I have a Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop and I recently had to replace the hard drive. When I did I installed Windows 98 as the OS (I know its ancient) and when I get to the main screen there is this 2 inch black boarder surrounding it. I have tried increasing the resolution but I can not move the little arrow to get it past 640x400 (I think is the resolution). I have tried switching the drivers and when I do I can get the resolution to go past 640x400 but when I restart the laptop it says that it can not read the current driver and it switches back to what is previously was. If you can help me out in any way that would be great. If I can't get it fixed I will probably just end up pawning it or donating it. more

Resolved Question: Kicked Off Of MSN Live Constantly?

I just purchased a brand new Toshiba Laptop w/ Windows 7. The internet works fine 98% of the time, integrated wireless, with my wireless router. But damn near every few minutes whether or not I'm IMing people or not, it kickes me off windows live messenger, then reconnects a moment later. My old laptop, with a wireless card did the same thing, but it'd only kick me off once in a great while. So I'm sure my connection is good. I've used the stock 'connection troubleshooter' program, that turns up no results. I've closed windows live, and reopened, signed back in, assuming perhaps that would help. No. Short of uninstalling and reinstalling the program, I've done what I can think of to fix it, short of hard wiring the internet connection. Why have wireless if I can't use it, ya know. Any suggestions? more

I was downloading something so left the pc to finish it's downloading , so when i got back i restart my computer and after it's rebooted , i noticed that it works so slow every right click took action after a long pause so I closed the monitor (laptop) it took almost 2 min to standby ... so I shut it down using power button then in startup used HDD scan it passed at the quick test but in full test it stopped working at 98% and after a min or so came error replace hard disk 1 ... so i hit esc boot to windows , now it read HDD for 1 sec and it rests for 1 sec . it is not continues ... could you help me finding the problem or tel what is going on plz help thanks , now i'm using the same computer but it is so slow some times it reads the hdd like normal but it is all slow the os and the rest thx Al more

My grandmaw has this laptop running either windows 95 or 98 (i am pretty sure its 95) and i am heading down to her house in a few days, the computer is essentially on its last legs (glitchy- the hardware all works, but the software is a little screwy) and i wanted to see if i could install Ubuntu linux on this computer before she throws it out. if anyone knows how to do this please let me know asap! the computer in question does not have a cd drive, internet connection or any usb ports, it does, however have a floppy drive. more

My parents bought me a laptop from a liquidation sell, they paid $300 for it, which it was not even worth that much. It is a Dell Latitude CPi DX300T and use to run Windows NT and 98 (That's what the stickers says) But when I received it, it was running Windows XP. Anyway, there was a small crack on the back of the monitor near the hinges, over time the crack spreaded and started breaking piece by piece. Once the hinges were completely broken to the point that I had to prop the screen onto something to keep it up, the only thing connecting it the keyboard part is a russet, copper, aluminum material thing. Today, the screen lost it's balance and it is now black. I have it hooked up to a desktop monitor, but I would prefer to look at my laptop while typing. My other question is how much does it usually cost to get it fix? Or should I buy another laptop?They got for me about 3 years ago. Total rip off. more

It has 64MB RAM, 2GB HD and a Pentium MMX 167Mhz CPU It was designed for Windows 95, I have installed NT Workstation 4.0 and it takes forever to load, Windows 2000 takes about 10 minutes just to get logged on from a clean installation. I wanted to stick with an NT based operating system for reliability but I know that the windows 9x line is based on DOS and perform considerably faster on lower spec PCs, I also know that they are much less reliable! If I was to use one I would choose either Windows 98SE or ME, But i'm not sure which one to choose? ME looks more up to date and has more eye candy than 98 and boots faster, but I've read on some websites that it is very buggy. more
