Im trying to sell a laptop and am seeing prices al over the place for laptops, some older then mine are higher then i thought to ask. Open Question: carphonewarehouse cheated me after giving me a contract, they cancelled the order?

Well I went into a carphonewarehouse store in Birmingham, I liked this Sony Laptop they had in store on offer with mobile broadband. I decided to sign up for it. Because I was already a carphonewarehouse customer they already had most of my details on the system and they signed me up for it after checking a few of my things like bank card and id. I was approved for the O2 mobile broadband. They gave me my O2 broadband contract and my dongle in store and said my laptop would be in store on friday and that I need to just pick it up then. I went home thinking i will get my laptop in 3 days. I waited and waited for them to phone me on friday and they didnt so i went to the store they said its not arrived yet even though they had just had a delivery on friday. On my invoice / documents etc... it said laptop will be delivered to store on thursday. Now something was fishy... so I decided to call O2. they said I need to phone carephonewarehouse. I called carphonewarehouse.. they said the laptop has been delivered to the store. I phoned again.. this time they said they dont know whats happening and they will phone the store.. they promised to call me back soon. waited and waited then got a message in my voice mail saying that the store had made a mistake and they have had to fill in a discrepency... I phoned them again and they said the order had been cancelled for some reason and that they will put me through to sales to re place another order. I said what about my contract and the broadband etc that you already signed me up for with o2. they said I should go to store and call customer service or sales from there. I went to the store and they phoned sales up and checked the notes on their system, they found out that the order had been cancelled by one of their staff and there was a note on the system by O2 saying I cannot go into 2 contracts with o2 in the same month, and that this is fraud. Why has this happened? what are my rights here? I was given a contract for 24 months with O2, My open order was closed / cancelled by carphonewarehouse and because im guessing they made a mistake so they tried to re sign me up for a contract and re open the order quietly hoping it will go back on the system but they ended up making O2 think im trying to do fraud by signing up for multiple contracts in 1 month. What am I supposed to do I have been told by the store that I have to go to the store tomorrow and see the store manager and they will sort it out. I have been told to take my dongle and contract etc with me. What can I do? Should I just give them my contract? What can I do about O2 accusing me of fraud? I want an appology from O2 aswell as carphonewarehouse. I signed up for a contract with them I trust them with all my details they cheat me, cancel my order, charge me £50 for the laptop, give me a dongle and a contract and then I am being accused of fraud when some idiot cancelled my order working in that store...or signed me up more than once. I am thinking I should make copies of all documents incase they try to cheat me after taking the contract of me using an excuse to sign me up again and may be decline me this time... If they decline me this time I seriously want to proceed legally against them because if I have to stick to my contract for 24 months then they should stick to their contract for 24 months. If they wanted to do this why did they approve me in ther first place? If they try anything funny I seriously hope they will be paying me £40 for 24 months and end up giving me a sony vaio and 5 dongles free...for life. What are my rights in this situation? will they cheat me tomorrw? will they sign me up again? will they decline me? can they decline me after giving me a contract? should I just hand it over to them? more

Hi there! I was just wondering, would you prefer an Apple product? I mean, any product by Apple you can think of. Macbooks, iMacs, different Ipods, iPhones, iPads (if anyone has one yet) whatever. I personally have never been a fan of Apple, but I would like to know more about their products. I currently own a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, an LG Chocolate Touch, and an Ipod Mini. I know that it may seem like a lot for a preteen, but I paid for my laptop, got my phone for Christmas (that's all I got, by the way), and my Ipod was bought at a garage sale for $20.00 used and all. I just want to know your opinion on Apple products, if you would prefer them, are they worth it, whatever you'd like to say about it Thanks! more

Voting Question: Dell lied to me about a 100% money back guarantee?

The Dell sales agent I spoke to said that if I was not completely satisfied with the laptop, that I could return it within 21 or 30 days (I forget which) and get 100% of my money back excluding shipping. I received the laptop yesterday in the mail and called Dell about an unrelated issue last night as I was setting it up. I happened to inquire about the guarantee again and the agent and his manager told me there is a 15% restocking fee if I return it within 21 or 30 days (I forget which). What the heck? I said the salesman stated a 100% money back guarantee but the customer service agent and his manager said unless I had that in writing (email or paper invoice) that I would be subject to the 15% restocking fee. Suggestions b/c I am unhappy with the laptop and would like to return it? I would have NEVER bought the laptop without a 100% money back guarantee. (I know many retail stores and online companies have restocking fees so I avoid them.) more

Resolved Question: Should I return my monitor because of 1 stuck pixel barley noticeable?

I recently saw a 24" acer monitor on sale for 200$ and a HP 23.3" on sale for 230$. I payed the extra money for a smaller screen because HP is a better brand and my year old laptop doesn't have any flaws with the screen. On this monitor however I got a stuck pixel in the bottom right corner that only shows on red and black backgrounds. It is barley noticeable but I keep thinking about it every time I use the monitor or look at it and it is just annoying to know I have one there. I was wondering if I should just deal with it or exchange it for another HP and hope there is nothing wrong. The whole reason I bought a smaller monitor for more was to avoid this. I just dont want to look like a fool going in there because of one small problem that they will have trouble finding. Resolved Question: just bought a vga/svga cable to connect laptop to tv and its not working?

its not the wrong cable for the tv/laptop cause i already asked the sales guy. ive gone through the display settings and it says its connected. i also checked the extend desktop to this monitor thing, but its not playing on the tv. also have done the thing where u press fn and f7 and clicked 'same display on notebook and monitor/proector'. i also have a cable for the audio that plugs in (like a headphone) right above the svga cable. when i went through the channels i found the channel which i could hear the audio through, but no channel will play the video. if anyone can help it would be soo much appreciated! i cant think of anything else to do :( more

I want to sell my IBM laptop and don't want any old info left on it. I figure if i take out the hard drive i'm good to go.I need to remove/erase the history,photo's etc correct? I see alot of laptops for sale w/o hard drives but never did it myself so i need to know how to do it so no info is left on it. When someone does buy it they will need a new hard drive of course and...anything else? It has windows xp pro,NO disc's(i bought it refurbished)dvd,burner,r/w etc. It has been an awesome laptop with the wi-fi.never any issues at all and the screen looks super,sound is great also for an older unit.Thinkpad t40. Items are "legit" and are shipped with warranty and registration info. 2. Items are brand new and in box 3. Items ship from somewhere in the USA, Texas apparently. 4. Items are tickets for sporting events, laptops, exercise equipment 5. Items are tracked and shipped through UPS 6. Money does not leave hand until buyers have responded with positive feedback or personally be email that the item was received in good order. 7. All are pay pal transactions, and money is not sent to the owner of the items until all transactions complete and cleared, at which time commission and ebay fees are subtracted. What is up with this, it sounds too good to be true...serious answers only, I am a single mom looking to make money and this is a good opportunity, but worries me....whats the idea and thoughts behind this?? I am out of money for this month now, and I really dont want to argue with him because of my cousin. I am waiting for an interview here in canada to get a green card from my wife to go back to the US, the interview is on February 10th. my question is that I wanted a place to stay until that time. Ok, I have a relatively new laptop. When I purchased the new laptop, I updated it for my existing Norton Antivirus subscription which I had on my desktop computer. Yesterday, I installed a software program (Quicken Willmaker). The program recommended I download Adobe Acrobat, which I wasn't sure I had or not, so I proceeded to download. In the process, it asked something about if I wanted to allow some Active X thing, I said "yes" since I had initiated the download & thought it would be safe. Maybe it was safe, maybe not, I am not sure right now. Anyhow, like an hour later, when renewing Norton (since a year had lapsed since the purchase which I installed on desktop pc), the computer started to freeze & internet browsing started acting funny. I got a pop-up telling me to install some software because my computer was "infected". I contacted Norton & they didn't want to tell me how to update the laptop for my subscription, they said the "threat must first be resolved". "Threat resolution" would require me to "do-it-yourself" (which they didn't recommend), then they were STRONGLY pushing for their service which started at like $149 (roughly). I could see through their tactics & I just went ahead & figured out how to do the renewal myself & then I ran a comprehensive scan which all it found was a cookie. My question is: Can there still be something wrong, or by updating to the latest version & running the scan, am I safe? or should I take the computer in to Best Buy or pay them all this money?? I just don't want to get ripped off when I could have potentially caught & fixed the problem by having Norton run a scan. Thanks in advance for your opinions/suggestions. more
