I have an older p3 model dell laptop. I was wanting to use it for just some web surfing. Nothing else. On the bottom is a windows 2000 product key. When i load up the laptop and start the dell xp reinstall disk. It will go to the area where i can delete partition and reinstall a fresh copy of xp. I would say before it gets to 60% it will just shut off. I have it running off a power cable,and don't understand why it won't work. Hi, I have a problem with "D-Link DWL-G630 wireless PC card" with my laptop. It gets the signals but it can't connect the internet-it only sends packets, recieving 0 packets. On the other hand, another wireless lan card, "Linksys WPC11 v3.0" which I used to use, works fine perfectly . But I'd prefer to use DWL-G630 because it has more speed. What's the problem? Hello all, my laptop is Acer aspire 4810T , my video card is SUPPOSED to be radeon 4330, but when I use can you run it, it gives me that it's intel series(4)series express, so which one is actually running ? I just finished setting up a new PC for a good friend who would like me to get rid of her old P3 desktop & monitor. Meanwhile, my granddaughter who is 6 asked me how much money she has to save for a computer of her very own. Resolved Question: Why do people like Linux?

I have had it up to here after trying to use a few linux distros and in the end am highly disappointed. I figured it would be fairly easy to put puppy onto an older laptop that does not have a CDROM. First I tried using a USB flash drive via the instructions on how to install puppy onto the usb flash. That fails and the end result from the rude people in the forums (try an older ver of puppy). I then try using a different computer and pulling the hard drive from the older lappy and using a direct connect cord I have. Well it all went well but I get some error in the end (again I ask in the forums with rude remarks in return and the same result (try an older ver.) Why would I want to run an older version. I can understand that maybe there will be some trial and error with installing to a USB flash but to a USB HD come on? Besides I dont want to try an older version, I want the latest release for petes sake. After that I gave up on Puppy and moved on to trying Xubuntu, another semilite distro that I thought would still not chug on the older p3 laptop. I tried installing direct to the HD but it failed about half way through. OK I thought, so I scrounged through my parts and found a nice 2.5 40gb hd that I could use instead. I formatted to the desired filesystem for xubuntu and set the boot flag and then proceeded through the install. Success, I completed the install or so I thought. I poped the HD into the old lappy and of course it fails of the bat. No OS found, Great well thats enough of trying Linux for the night. I guess the old lappy was better off with Win 98 on there afterall. Whats even better as when I went to restart my computer where I was doing all these installs on its OS (Vista) would not start. For some lame reason Xubuntu decided I wanted to change my MBR on my main pc's hd even though I was not even installing to that HD. Great so now I get to go look for my vista cd so I can run an MBR repair. My take on Linux distros so far: Work flawlessly from the live cd's not so much when trying to do permanent installs more

Toshiba Satellite 1750 laptop, Celeron -M CPU 700MHz /128k cache 1.6V Micro-PGA socket. Is there a P3 chip that is the "big brother" of this chip? I understand that many Celeron chips are just dumbed down versions of like speed P3's with less cache? It has a ZIF socket so I can take it out, no problem.well, there is a P3 that has the same core voltage and same multiplier but has double the cache @256. Maybe Ill try that one. Its cheap on Ebay. Resolved Question: Best Linux Distro w/ GUI for low spec PC.?

I would like to install a Linux Distro on a HP thin client t5700 - it must have a GUI and not webmin. It does not need a graphical installer or LiveCD. I would like to stay away from BSD. It will be used as a torrent and ed2k mule as well as an SMB server. THe t5700 has an x86 CPU (not Intel but runs x86 code) that runs @ 1Ghz. It is probably equivalent to a P3 500-600Mhz. It also has 512MB RAM, a 60GB IDE laptop HDD, alsa supported sound, 4 bootable USB 1.1, 100Mbps ethernet and one PCI 33Mhz slot. The OS will boot of the internal IDE channel drive and not the USB drives. I have another one with identical config with Windows XP Pro installed and it runs just great as a P2P mule and does not crash, so it is pretty capable as a basic server but not as a workstation. I ran the distro chooser test http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/ It recommended OpenSUSE and Fedora first. Then Ubuntu, Madriva and Debian. I prefer Debian based distros with the GNOME desktop. Do the new Ubuntu Distros natively support writing to NTFS drives or do I need a 3rd party app like FUSE. I don't mind an old 2.4 kernel, but the newest kernel had all drivers included when I tried Xubuntu 8.10. I'd just like to know everyone else's $0.02 more

Resolved Question: how to improve my video chat?

I use an old laptop for videochat only, but recently when i broadcast, it stops for a while every 20 seconds or so. I think the new versions of the software are already heavy for it because even after formatting it doesn't work well (before, formatting every few months was enough to keep it running fine). Resolved Question: How do I speed up my laptop?

I have a few computers. But this one is giving me a speed issue. Its running slow even for a P3 1133 Mhz with 1GB of RAM. Its an IBM T23 running Windows XP Pro. I have the settings set for Best Performance with just a few things like XP Visuals checked for appearance. Yet is still runs really slow. I have run virus scans and Defrags to try to speed it up. Cleaned out the Cookies and Temp folders and compressed. No luck. Is there anyway to speed this thing up? more

Hello all - yesterday my normal yahoo mail (classic) login was replaced by the login page for yahoo mobile devices - how can I return to the traditional email login please. I am using a P3/366 Thinkpad laptop with Fedora 8 and Firefox 2.0.0.8 with a wireless 3G (HSDPA) Huawei E169 card.
