I'm going to be buying a new laptop next month, and I need to know what one's right for my needs. I had one 2 years ago, but I've been using a desktop, and my husband and I fight over it all the time. I have a budget of 400 and under. Not much I know, but I know there are some out there. My only need I mean only is this: I run a blog where I do product reviews, and while writing them I have mulitple web pages, and programs like word/paint running. Most of the time I have at least 4 pages going at the same time, and I need it to run smoothly. I won't be using it to store pictures I have my desktop for that so memory isn't a huge issue. I don't care about battery life, or portability because I'll mostly be using it at home. Durability might be an issue as I have a one year old. Thanks! more

I'm looking to buy a laptop in the near future and I have about £400 to spend, I can go a little over if needed but ideally I'd like something that would fit in that bracket. I've been trying to find some sort of laptop buying guide but the ones I've found are outdated. Any help would be appreciated. My main categories outside of technical specs (which I'm not sure about) are: Aesthetics (shiny shiny) Not too big, but not a netbook by any means. Windows 7, I suppose Ideally I'd like it to play Blu-rays, but I guess I'd pass that up for better overall specs. will i ever feel safe again? It's been 2 weeks and double-bolt and block the door with a chair when I am home. I sleep with the TV and all the lights on. When I am coming home after being out, I am afraid to go inside. I have changed the locks and haven't even given my landlord a key. I live alone and am female. the person stole my laptop -- which is full of pictures of me -- so they know I am a woman and what I look like. I don't think I will ever feel safe again and it scares the shit out of me. I don't want a gun or be afraid... i want to hide under a rock. my imagination is now heading towards fear of assault or worse. what can i do to feel better faster? Voting Question: Problems with laptop?

I've had my HP DV51100 for 13 months now after buying it from John Lewis in November 2008 for £650. However, it has recently began to play up and when I use the laptop without it linked up to the mains, it tends to cut off randomly, even if it isn't out of battery. That's another thing, the battery never fully charges now so I think there's an issue with that. Also, within the last few days, my laptop has been making a loud noise while running, which seems as though it's coming from the fan area. What do you think is wrong with it and shall I take it back to get fixed as it's still under warranty which runs out next November. By the way, do you think there's a chance that they'll replaced it for a better one? Because I wouldn't even expect these kind of problems with a £400 laptop, let alone a £650 one. Thanks for any advice.I even bought a cooling mat when I bought the laptop and I never used it without it, yet it still overheats. Will they give me a new battery and that if it's under warranty? The only problem is that I need my laptop right now to do my coursework? more

So here's the story. This year as we all know, we're all kinda broke lol. I lost my job about a month ago, so I'm a lil' tight but 'still' getting by ok. So I figured I won't spend more than $200. At the most. COME to find out, my girl brings her Christmas gifts to my house to put under the Tree. I see my gift, and it's flat square and heavy. And I'm 100% it's a Laptop, and knowing her, she got the most expensive one. (Sales reps walk all over her LOL). Please don't comment "it could be something else", I KNOW 100% it's a Laptop, cause I mentioned a buncha times that I needed one, and I was going to buy one, but she beat me to it. So I assume she spent about $600-800 for this damn thing, and I'm going to look bad on X-Mas day. Even though I'm not to spend, I feel so bad that she spent so much money, and I want to go over my $200 limit. I got her a $200 Victoria Secret Card, a $100 Puma Jacket, and Coach shoes that were about $100 and change. About $400 in total. I wish I could spend more, but I honestly can't. Do you think this is enough to make up for a Laptop, or at least close? It's all bought already, so I'm giving this to her on X-Mas, just wanna know if it's enough. I love her, and she deserves everything I give her, as she feels same for me dropping a full paycheck for something I needed. Voting Question: What laptop should I get for Christmas?

I need a laptop with lots of memory because I have my whole iTunes playlist on my laptop which is at least 2000 songs if not 2500 songs including 4 movies and 4 tv programs all on iTunes. I also have to have copies of half the 2500 songs so they work on my iTunes! I use internet 24/7, msn, twitter, my space and all that so I would like a quick computer that wouldn't be so slow that as soon as someone wrote to me they'd be signed out before I write back! I do a lot of school projects on it and I like the look of windows 7. I've been looking at the dell inspiron 15 or 17. Within a price limit of aprox under £400 Thanks loads!!! :) more

I have been looking at sonys and toshibas and i just cant find a reasonable laptop with about 2gb memory for this price i want either sony or toshiba. I hate dell and i acers have reliability problems. Please HELP :) more
