Voting Question: i have a p 3 nec versa vxi laptop... when i unplug it, it turns off?

i have a p 3 nec versa vxi laptop... when i unplug it, it turns off. i bought a new battery and it say it is fully charged. it takes quite a while to charge. but when i un plug it, it dies again. i have windows xp pro installed. it had a virus in the laptop when i first got it .it would not go to windows so i installed xp... i think the most it is suposted to have installed is windows 2000.... help please if you can... thanks more

I just got free laptop from my dad's friend and I dont know how to check whether my laptop NEC Versa E3100 has wifi ready inside or not. I'm going to study abroad and i wanna know whether this laptop can be used in wifi free area. And if it does not have wifi built in, how to be able to make it wifi ready so i can use it in wifi hotspots or any place that has free wifi? sorry, i know nothing about wifi and stuff. I need to be able to connect the laptop of the school I work at to the little red, white, and yellow plugs on the TVs there. It has what I think is a VGA port on the side, but I'm not much of an expert on laptop ports, so I could be wrong. Voting Question: Help with laptop and drivers!!?

Right i have a laptop but did not get a disc with it, I have re-installed windows on the laptop. Last night i had to download all drivers for the laptop and put them on disc to install on the laptop as the laptop is not connected to my router. My question is................In my device manager under devices there are two devices that i cannot find the drivers for these are.... UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS (USB) CONTROLLER AND NETWORK CONTROLLER. can some please give me some advice where i can get these Laptop details below. I have the NEC Versa S3300 - and it comes with this inbuilt webcam. And its a school laptop, and it used to have an AveoCap program which I would use to run the webcam. But the school did an update to my laptop, and now the Aveocap program is missing, and so I don't know how to get my webcam working. Is there something I can download? Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: Adapter problem? Or laptop problem?

Hi all, I've been having a problem with my laptop AC adapter as of late. Basically, when I plug the adapter onto the power outlet, it works (the light and fan turns on). However, whenever I plug the adapter into my laptop (NEC Versa M400, yes it's old), it suddenly died off just like that. It would usually take me several tries to unplug and replug the adapter until it would run smoothly, but I fear that sooner or later it would just die off completely. What could be the cause of this, is this definitely my adapter problem, or is it my laptop which is at fault (the adapter runs well, but dies off when connected to the laptop). Additionally, is it a good idea to let my AC adapter run 24/7? The problem only appears when I first start the adapter; once it's running smoothly, it doesn't power off or the likes, and I'm sure it's not cable problem (I wiggled the cable once it's running, and it looks fine). Resolved Question: A laptop hard drive problem.?

I recently obtained an older laptop (NEC Versa FXI) and it seems to work well. The only problem is that the os on the hard drive has a massive problem that's keeping me from signing in and getting into a position where I could reformat it. I took the hard drive out with the intention of just using my desktop to reformat it to something else, it is impossible on the laptop at the moment. (http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/dk/2/23ba20spec.html) and found that while the bios said IDE, it seems that it actually uses ata5. What should I do? Is there an adapter for ata5 to sata or ide? Is there a place that can help me (like best buy) do this with their equipment? And most importantly, if nothing else is an option, where can I get a similar hard drive cheaply? I don't need it to exact specifications, just a 2.5", ata5, and a low price tag. In Y! questions, I look for quality answers that will actually solve my problem for best answer. I will not get a new laptop, I don't have the money. (because I know someone will suggest it). more

I've recently received a slightly older laptop from a friend of mine. He told me that it's an old piece of crap (it was free and I need a laptop) and just outright gave it to me. I assumed he was right because his father works with Dell and his house is full of computer stuff. They are also rich (or that's how it seems from my perspective) and it turns out that it is an old crazy high end expensive computer. It is a NEC Versa FXI laptop.
