Open Question: What is causing my computer to shut off when using cd drive?

No matter if I put in a picture cd, cd to rip or burn, or just to listen to, after a few minutes, my computer shuts completely off. I have a T23 IBM with Pentium III, 384RAM, combo drive and running Windows XP and Media Player 11. I stopped using it for about a year because of useless power cord and battery. Open Question: HELP!! Windows 7 and Sims 2 issues?

I have a new windows 7 laptop. My Sims 2 and all the expansion packs worked fine on my older XP laptop. When I first installed everything on the new laptop, the sims 2 worked but the expansion packs didn't show up in the game. So I tried doing a clean install. But now nothing works. The sims 2 auto run screen pops up when I try and open it. Then a window tells me that it has compatibility issues with 2 options, check online for help and run program. I click search online and it finds nothing. But when I click run program it just doesn't launch. Its frustrating me. Open Question: something wrong with my internet connection settings or other settings of my pc or an error due to virus?

Hi ive got a hp-compaq nx7010 (compaq x1000 hp branded) with a 1.6ghz intel centrino (rebranded pentium M). I know that the cpu is held in by a screw so it shouldnt be a hard replacement but im just curious on whether or not the motherboard will allow a dual core (laptop) cpu in my system. Hey Guys, I am getting MS Flight Simulator 2004 in a few days and wanted to know if my laptop was good enough to run the game at its best settings i.e. having the best graphics, no slowdown, no poor frame rates. It's really important to me that I have a good experience with this game. I also played it safe and bought a joystick. Voting Question: Any ideas on fixing my wireless network?

Alright, here's my exact setup: Comcast ISP sends its signal via coaxial to my SB5100 Surfboard modem. The modem then sends its signal via ethernet cable to the Linksys WRT160N wireless router. The wireless router sends its wireless signal out to the various computers within our house, and also a direct ethernet line to the laptop im using atm. None of the wireless computers can connect to the network. They all detect it however. When they try to connect, they return an error of a timeout or unsure why they couldn't connect. Thinking that the router is probably the problem, I tried our old Wireless-B router. Same problem, all computers detect the network but can't connect; IDK if it's related, though. I've tried a few things with no luck. I power cycled both the router and the modem. I factory reset the router. I tried using a different SSID. I tried changing the WPA code, and I tried switching to WEP security. I have tried to connect from the computers where DHCP is used, and tried with static IPs. I am also picking up a the usual neighbor networks, but a new one as well. I was thinking this might be interfering, however, my mother's wireless laptop can't connect even when sitting right next to the router, and from various points in the house. The only thing that I changed from our network that I can possibly think of is one of our computers disconnected. The PC had a few issues, and was still under warranty, so they brought it to Best Buy. That same afternoon is when the router started to disconnect every 30 seconds to 6 minutes. I'm really upset right now, I have to share a laptop with 4 family members, and its specs are *gasp* pentium 4 and 512 mb ram. more

I am trying to figure out what computer to buy my daughter for college. I want to get it now for her birthday so she can get used to the new windows 7 (she currently has vista). I would like recommendations on: Screen size for a student (not too small or too big), processor brand/type, how much RAM, how big of a hard drive and any other information such as brands or places that have good deals. She uses it mostly for internet research, writing papers and downloading photos from digital camera. Hi there Basically, I have a laptop (Tecra A3) running windows XP, Intel(R) Celeron(R) M processor 1.50GHz, 760MB of RAM and a 128.0MB graphics card. I recently got a desktop (dell precision 380) running ubuntu, 2 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz (dual core), 1GB of RAM but not sure what the graphics card is I want to switch the OS's around, so the laptop is running ubuntu and the desktop windows. However, i am not sure how to do this Firstly, I have a recovery disc for the Tecra and i was told that i could possibly use this to install windows on the desktop. Do you know if this will work? and to do so, would i use it in the same way as if i was reinstalling windows on my laptop (as in booting from the disc)? Secondly, if i want to install windows on my desktop, am i better off formatting the hard-drive and starting from scratch or creating a partition (i think) and installing windows (before removing ubuntu afterwards)? Any help would be greatly appreciated more
