I'm currently looking at the MSI Wind U100 or a Lenovo S10 though I'm open to other possibilities. Open Question: Is this Sony vaio laptop any good at a given price? link included.?

I am thinking about buying a portable, moderately inexpensive, and high capacity laptop. I just found http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PHM0KY/sr=1-1/qid=1265148421/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1265148421&sr=1-1 and I am thinking about buying it. Price is pretty good, given that other places sell them as high as $800-1100. I don't really do a lot of gaming, although i do run Photoshop , along with some other pretty rigorous software. Do you think I should go ahead and purchase this? I'm a college freshman and I would want it to last at least till the end of my studies in 2013 - preferably more. more

Open Question: How to open the files in my recovered laptop hard drive?

Ok, so I have a problem. My old laptop died, so I got a new one. Most of my stuff was in my external drive, however some stuff was in my laptop's hard drive. I got an enclosure, which is cool cause now I have a portable drive. All my stuff is still in there. I can open the folders and see that. So the drive is good. But I can't access the files because I need permission from the old computer's administrator, which is me. I can't delete, rename, play videos or music, see the pics. I can just see that they are there. How can I fix this??? Any help will be greatly appreciated, believe me. Thanks a lot everybody!I did tried and It wont let me do anything with them. By the way, the old computer was windows xp, the new one is windows 7, if that matters. more

Open Question: What do I need to have my computer powered up in the car?

I thought I knew what I was supposed to get, a power inverter, but I was told that what I needed was actually an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) Unit. Voting Question: Please please please PLEASE help.?

Alright, i have a Fujitsu laptop. Recently it has been restarting on its own for a few times; each time because of the 'Plug and Play service terminated unexpectedly' or something like 'Windows DCOM terminated unexpectedly' ... (Just to clarify, I did not attach a new device to my laptop, like a camera or portable music player that might cause this.. well i used to plug in my sound system but it has been working well for months before this problem came. I've unplugged everything except the power plug.) I then decided to update my windows and see if it'll resolve the problem. After that i just can't seem to start it up! It'll go this page with the heading 'Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause...' And below it I'm supposed to choose 1) Launch startup repair or 2) start Windows normally. I CAN'T start Windows normally because it would go back to the same page. When I launched the startup repair, it says that 'Windows can't repair this computer automatically'. Oh my god I really do not know what to do. I have important files in my laptop. Someone please advise.. :( more

Voting Question: looking for a laptop in the uk for around £400, student, gaming, videos etc?

Ok, so I'm a student looking for a laptop. I don't play many pc games because I have a lot of coursework to do and I have my Xbox 360 for the graphics intensive stuff, but I'm looking for a laptop that will run /some/ games on it at a medium setting at a reasonable frame-rate. Obv I want it to be able to handle everyday things as well (internet, applications, DVDs), but I guess if its handling games it should be able to handle that stuff easily. I'm aware that this may be a bit difficult because for gaming I'm probably looking at a dedicated graphics card but ANY help would be appreciated, I just need a nudge in the right direction. PS. I understand moderate technical jargon, I've built my own PCs before but my current one is at the end of its life and I need a laptop for portable-nessEDIT: games played would probably include sims 3, and some older games such as red alert 2, maybe Oblivion at a push on low spec more

I need to record some voice over (non-singing/music, so no desire for ambient sound), but I'll be traveling and visiting the voice talent in different locations. What would be the best way to record audio but with portable equipment? 1) Buy a portable field recorder (like a Marantz PMD660) to record and then transfer to my laptop or 2) Buy a high-quality microphone, stand, pop screen, and then just plug it directly into my laptop when I record Or, is there an even better way than either of these? more

Here they are! http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=JExNpew5BY4uwRKv and http://www.excaliberpc.com/594948/asus-k42jr-a1-14-notebook.html#TabSpecification so pros and cons in my opinion of them bolth Laptop 1: Pros: •Looks stunningly beautiful •Great reviews •Express Gate •Faster Proccesor Cons: •DDR2 Memory •limited upgradeability •More Expensive (found around $960) Laptop 2: Pros: •looks great (not as good as #1 but sure as hell not ugly) •DDR3 RAM •Upgradeable to 8GB RAM •Textured Touch pad •Fast processor (still under #1) •less costly ($869) Cons: •Not yet available (but willing to wait) •lesser graphics card (not sure though tell me if you can find it) So go at it and if you could reccomend any others that would be appreciated, I want it to portable and it's safe to say I'm a gamer with a budget under $1k more

Resolved Question: Will Apple's iPad fail?

This looks like a useless product with no market except for people with too much money or idiot Mac fanboys who will buy anything Steve Jobs poops. -It doesn't have an SD card slot or USB slot. You want to load all your photos on it? You need to buy a special dongle and attach it to the iPad. Ah yes, that's convenient and cost-effective. -You need to lay it flat and look straight down at it to type on it. It's not like a netbook or laptop where the keyboard is flat and the screen is in front of your face. -You can buy a keyboard accessory -- you can spend extra money to turn a low-power netbook-type tablet into a non-portable desktop computer. Meanwhile there are products like Lenovo U1 Hybrid where you can slip the tablet into a netbook shell and turn it into a portable, foldable laptop. -Apple wants to say it will be great for reading books and magazines, but it has a bright, glossy LCD screen. Meanwhile, electronic book reader devices use an electronic ink technology that doesn't strain the eyes and can be used in the sun. -You cannot multitask. You can only do one task at a time. If you want to surf the web and type into a document, you can't. You need to exit one and then open the other. -It costs $500, minimum, and has a 1 ghz processor. Products with similar specs and abilities cost less than that. My netbook has a 1.6 ghz Atom processor and cost me $200. And my netbook has an SD slot so I can make the hard drive space as large as I want. And my netbook has USB ports. And I can do multiple tasks on my netbook. Fact is, tablets have been around forever and the mainstream market didn't want them. Just because they've slapped an Apple logo on it, should people suddenly want it? Seems like Apple is hoping this will help them launch their new book store. I think the iPad is dumb. more

Resolved Question: Will Mac fanboy kool-aid drinkers buy the iPad? Is the iPad dumb, stupid, pointless, a piece of crap?

Voting Question: What would be a good laptop for a college student to buy?

I have a Compaq now and the warranty ran out, there is a problem in my hardware, something to do with the display ribbon or something? I'm not sure, but the part has been replaced twice and it keeps breaking, which means my screen flashes like crazy. I'm tired of it and just want a new computer! Which would be the best laptop for me. I am a college freshman so I need a computer with a good keyboard cause I'll be doing a lot of typing papers and things. I'll also be surfing the net pretty much all day. I sometimes play casual games on my computer, and I download iTunes on it. I also download pictures onto my laptops, not a lot, just some. It doesn't have to be portable, cause I don't take my laptop to class and I prefer a larger screen. Lastly, and most importantly, I have a budget so something cheap would be best. Under $800. Brand names don't matter and I want it to have Windows 7. more
