Open Question: How much could I sell my laptop for?

Unfortunately, the screen is broken and is impossible to use. Alternatively, I have a Samsung external monitor that I use with my Acer and it works beautifully. I bought the monitor in early October of 2009 for a little over $200. I own another laptop and I'm looking to sell my Acer along with the Samsung external monitor. I plan on restoring my Acer to system settings and installing an Anti-Virus program and Microsoft Office 2007. My Samsung monitor is brand new, no scratches or problems with it. The Acer has a few wear and tears but nothing that affects the performance: a couple of scratches on the lid and a few marks where I had to take the speakers off to replace the screen once before. I'm planning on selling this on eBay if I could get a pretty good price out of it. How much do you think I should sell for the external monitor and laptop together? more

Resolved Question: What is the cheapest and safest way to upgrade a hp compaq dx2000mt?

plain and simple my pc is old. im running a hp compaq dx2000mt with all default parts. I'd rather upgrade it then buy a new computer, but i need to know what kind of video cards i can safely put into my pc. I want something that will help me play basic mmorpgs, so i need something like nVidia GeForce FX 5200 or ATI Radeon 9600 or nVidia GeForce FX 5700 or ATI Radeon X 1600. Now ive seen these on ebay and they range from under 50$ which im okay with. but i need to know whether or not my motherboard will support these, if the default power supply can support these, and all in all will it just work. Also, i want to upgrade my ram. i have laptop that has two sticks of 1gb ram so i was wondering if i can safely transfer it to my pc? Open Question: Planning on going to Japan for 1 week, need some help?

I am planning on going to Japan this year for 1 week, but I need some help first. I plan on going around mid August, as that will give me some time to save up some money. I have figure out that a round trip will cost me about $1300, I will save up $1500 just to be safe. I plan on going cheap with hotels as I only plan to spend the night there and the rest of my time looking around. So I found out about Capsule Hotels which looks like one of the cheaper ways to go, but do you get any plugs inside the Capsule for something like a laptop? Also are we allow to bring something even like that inside the Capsule, or do we have to put it in the locker with my other stuff? For prices, would $500CAD (44,622.009yen) last me for about 6 days for hotels? Now for food, I plan on saving up about $650 for food as that will give me about $100(8,924.402yen) a day and $50 for the last day. I don't think I will come close to even using all of that, but I dunno how the prices are down there for food. I do want to try a little bit of this and that, and I am not that big of a eater. Also, is there anything I should really try since I am done there? I know I want to try some of ramen to see what it's like but any other ideas? I am not that big of a fan for fish, don't hate it, but don't really care for it. I plan on going to Tokyo, but I wouldn't mind see other places if possible like Mount. Fuji, and etc, but what are my options for getting around? I know that Japan has one of the largest train systems, but going all over the place how much would that cost? Also would Tokyo keep me busy for 6 days? Or is it really worth it to pay to got to some other places? I would love to see all of Japan, but I am not made of $$$$ nor do I have the time, so what places should I go check out in 6 days? I would love to visit a hot spring as I have never seen one in my life, so does any one know of any good places for that? Now for the important stuff. Will I be okay getting around as I know very little japanese, so will I get lose on the train and other places from the lack of that or is there some English to help me get around? I know in alot of games and anime, I see alot of english in them, so how good are the japanese people with English? Also I know that they have alot of rules like for manners and etc. What is the important stuff that I should know? I know that they don't wear there shoes in the house, which is the same here in Canada, so that should be a easy one. I also know that you should never leave chopsticks faceup on the blows and that is rude. But what other thing should I know about? Can anyone help me? I am looking for a reasonably priced laptop that features a class 2 or high class 3 graphics card?( mid-range). Im NOT looking for a gaming laptop that can generate ultra super high end graphics but a laptop that is decent enough to play recent games ( such as world in conflict ) SMOOTHLY in moderate settings. i'm an architecture engineering major undergraduate student.. and am looking for a new laptop.. i have no idea what the requirements should be like.. i'll be using programs like autocad, autocad architecture 2010, 3d-max, DStudio Viz..Rhino..SAS ..SPSS..Maya ..ArcGIS and Video editing packages like Premier for PCs.. and more programs i haven't come across yet (i'm a junior student) .. i need the laptop to work fast with all these programs as their usage will be the main purpose of the laptop.. i already have a good laptop, HP Pavilion dv6000 .. but it's not fast enough .. price is not a problem at all.. i just need a laptop that makes using these problems faster and more efficient. any recommendations? please? more

So i am looking for a macbook pro and ran across this one, i live in texas. it was on craigslist under texas and so i thought it was a good deal, so i emailed her and she emailed me back saying now she was in ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyway,here are the specs: I am selling the 15" Unibody MacBook Pro, with 2.66 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4 Gb memory, 320 Gb HD for $550 USD. I hope you are still interested in buying it. This Macbook Pro was ordered brand new directly from Apple on May 1st, 2009. About the laptop I can say it is 9 Months old and it is in good shape, no scratches, no dents as you can see from the pics I've sent. Included in the $550 price is everything the laptop came with when it was new, including the original manuals and warranty papers. The laptop still has Applecare warranty until May 1st, 2010. The Applecare warranty is fully transferable to the new owner. I tried to be a thorough as I could with the presentation so you can have all the info if you decide to go ahead and buy it. I have used the laptop mostly for internet browsing and presentations, so I would say it has been only lightly used. The laptop has the Snow Leopard 10.6 OS, the iLife 09 and the MS Office 2008 with the original recovery disks included. Open Question: What can I do about my laptop?

I have a macbook pro, and recently I broke the screen on it, so I had to get it fixed through insurance, as apple didn't cover it, and the total price to replace it was around (USD)$1100 (I live in New Zealand). So they put a new screen on and it all looked nice, so i bought it home and the wireless didn't work. So the next day I took it back into apple, and about 2 weeks later (today) finally got it back, finding out when they repaired the screen they had broken the logic board. So now I thought thank god that's all over. So I came home tonight, and find out the microphone is broken. I know it seems minor but I use skype for 1-2 hours every day, and is frustrating when I am trying to arrange an overseas trip to China to see my friend (Who I only really talk to on skype). I mean ok sure they will probably fix my microphone etc, but I'm a student, I can't exactly pull knowledge out of thin air. What should I do because they've inconvenienced me so much, I mean I'm even nervous about telling them they broke my microphone.Insurance paid to fix my computer, thankfully I was covered, just in case you didn't get that part. Also, they are the only apple approved repair service in Wellington (My city) and it's not like another place would fix what they stuffed up. I'm a senior in highschool and as a graduation gift I'm getting a laptop college. I'm looking for something with an ok prosessor something like 2.0ghz 2.2 and atleast a 6 to 8 battery life. So I plan on getting a laptop, but I don't really know where to start researching or really where to buy. Should I customize or buy a pre-made? It seems to me a pre-made is a bit cheaper. Open Question: Can somebody please suggest a really good quality, low price pair of speakers?

I would like to buy a few speakers to plug into my laptop and that they will sound like Bose or M-Audio quality but are 150$ US or less. Hey i'm looking for a small laptop/netbook! me, my mom, and sister share a computer. Lately i've not had enough time on the computer. I have a lot of hw, and i like to chat with my friends on oovoo. Open Question: What is the York/Sheridan joint program like?

So to the York/Sheridan graduates or current students I have some questions which I would REALLY appreciate to be answered. First, I'd like to know how going to both schools work. Do you guys go to classes only at one of the schools for a day and the next day you go to the other school? Or do you guys do it by semester, so the first semester it's at York and the second at Sheridan? And have you guys ever had to go to both schools in one day to attend class? (That would really suck.) Second, is it required to buy a specific laptop if you're in the program? Or are you allowed to have an already existing laptop and use that? Ex. do we have to own a Mac? Lastly, is the software given to us for free or do we have to buy it (probably at a discount price though)? Thanks a lot of for your time! It's really appreciated! Weeeell I am 15 years old (16 next month) and I have always wanted a dog... and so has my little sister. My mum said she has enough children to deal with without the hassle of a dog and she said the vet costs are not helping my arguement. So here is my arguement, I am 15, nearly 16. I promise to walk the dog everyday (I live next to a country park and I walk with my friends dog everyday) so walking wouldn't be a problem, I LOVE dogs. I have £1000 in my bank that I can spend, I am happy to buy food, etc for the dog till I run out, I will save £100 for clothes, but I already have a Xbox 360, Wii, Laptop and PC, iPhone and stuff so I don't need anything else in my life, a dog would be another best friend for me. So the vet prices, I see stuff like £2 a month for vets? I would happy pay yearly... My sister is 14 so she can help aswell, my mum also say dogs stink out the house.. this can be covered surely by some spray... Today, I got accepted into the second best sixth form college in Cambridge (which is EXTREMELY good, so i just want her to realise I am becoming more responsible) and also I am starting volunteer work in a ward at Addenbrookes Hospital for 8 weeks, so that helps.. I even told my mum that I would be happy with a dog for my birthday and thats all... Can anyone help a teenagers dream of having a dog? What can I say or do to convince her? My Dad is happy with having a dog, its just my mum :P!It's not money thats the problem and its only my mum who has the problem with the job, not REALLY serious, she doesn't like the fact of the dog smelling the house out and stuff like that. In response to a recent letter to Adobe School purchase Affiliate partners.. journeyed.com.. I got this attachment. I found it very informative? What do you think? Dear Terry B Journeyed and the software manufacturer Adobe understand that many customers may have multiple computers. Unfortunately the software manufacturers offer their products at an academic discount in order to assist faculty and students with their educational needs. It is not their goal to provide a copy for each computer owned by a customer therefore they have restricted academic versions to 1 copy per each qualified student/faculty. A full store version will usually allow you to download it more than once for all of your computers. Aprox 2-4 times per full version copy. As a student/ or faculty member.. you are eligible to purchase only one copy of each software at the educational discounted rate. There is zero difference in the software. However, the student version is only downloadable once and it does not come with the flip thru paper booklet guide. It just comes with the full DVD-ROM software sets. You can get many variations of these tutorial booklets in any case at Barnes and Noble or Borders books. And with the money you save on student versions, you will have thousands of extra dollars to buy all these frills and maybe even a new pc or laptop. And of course there's allways tutorials on wwwyoutbe.com In the future; Should the product you purchase release a newer version you can then purchase 1 copy of the new release on your student id again and again and so on. If a street customer, or someone no longer enrolled in school needs more copies of a particular software.. they would need to then purchase the commercial version product at full price. But for all the extra money they will also get the tutorial flip thru paper booklet with their full version. If there is more than 1 academically qualified person at any same residence, additional academic proofs can be submitted on that home account to allow additional purchases of a desired product to be made. Instead of just one per houshold. The internal tracking at Adobe is just to make sure who and how many they are buying. And they generally track purchases by address and name to prevent Scam and Software Burners from ordering tons of all the most expensive programs. You can buy only one of each of any software set or program as a student. There are dozens of varieties and you are able to purchase one or all of any/all of them. Adobe programs need a key and a serial number to be activated, they come with this in the DVD-ROM software case once verification has been submitted. To buy from a student on ebay, you will want to make sure the student has not opened it, or at least make sure they have the serial key numbers that came with their set and offer a refund if it doesn't work. This way their version should work for the next person to aquire the software set. And there is no reason it shouldn't. Adobe has no way of tracking who has it once it leaves their wearhouse paid for and with the serial numbers/ key number enclosed. They are not gps satellite or ein tracked programs, nor can they be, and most importantly- Adobe cannot read your intentions to sell your work if you created it with student discount purchased software, versus full price retail version software. Open Question: Iphone, Making a stylus, how touchscreen works, conductivity question?

How does the iphone touchscreen work? I know the basics, it has something to do with conductivity. Ok, so I'm not looking for info on how the coordinate system or how charge is measured and location calculated. Help me with some conductivity issues =) The only things that have worked on the iphone screen for me are my fingers. I've tried some conductive material but they're probably too thin, scissor blades and stuff....Aside from sausages which I haven't exactly tried. what materials are "conductors"? Why does the touchscreen work even with a piece of plastic over it? Is plastic conductive? Why is human flesh conductive? Why is the earth considered a giant conductor, isn't it a rock, rock conducts electricity? I previously thought that those "magic" covers for the iphone were special b/c they didn't block "finger signal" thus justifying their (comparatively)high prices for what is to my eyes, a sheet of plastic. I'm trying to make a soft stylus sort of thing. I'm thinking wrapping some sort of conductive fiber around the end of my pen so i can dual use it, with a pop up stand cover for my iphone it'll be like a laptop. I'm thinking either I sew in some conductive material into a fabric and glue or rubber band it to the tip, or use aluminum. Aluminum doesn't seem soft enough, and I don't don't any thin conductive materials and are threadlike enough to be sewn into clothes. How do those gloves and styluses that companies make for the iphone work? I'm thinking it's not copper wire...gold can be really thin though....but a stylus seems to need a pretty large area to be recognized on the screen, which is why thin conductors I've tried haven't been working...I guess.. No access to materials right now so can't check... why does sausage conduct electricity? Do people have different levels of electrical resistance on their skin? Once I placed my hands on this physics machine that measure something electrical about your skin, most people had a middle value...I had zero ish...will this protect me a bit from lightning? Does it make it somewhat harder, require more surface contact to operate the iphone? lot's a random questions, not really well organized, sorry =( hope people can satisfy my curiosity, thanks in advance! more

It's base price was around 700 euros, when I cuztomised it went up to 1,728 euros. Open Question: how can i speed up my laptop? (fairly new laptop)?

Okay with my Christmas money i bought this cheap laptop from the black friday sales i got a hold of this terrific laptop for the price of 400$ the specs are 2.2GHz 3Gb RAM Windows 7 home premium 64 bit 160GB hard drive (might upgrade later to 1 T or 500) with a windows rating of 3.4 (windows desktop areo being the lowest) how can i speed this laptop up? i seem to feel that its not giving me all the power it has to offer? ive defraged i did MSconfig and made nothing startup at login ran a AVG anti virus scan no bloatware left on it i dont know what els to do? could it be like windows 7 is just to memory hogging? would a downgrade to vista or XP fix this? i really dont know what els to do?
