Open Question: How do I flash the BIOS if no OS is installed?

I have a Compaq CQ50-115nr. I bought it online for pretty cheap. The listing says the HDD is bad, which is fine, I have a ton of those sitting around. I get the laptop, rpl the hdd, it still won't recognize it, disk read error. I assume it is the SATA port, yank the hdd and throw it in an external case and figure I will boot to usb. Same thing. I try the hdd on my regular computer and it has Linux on it. I am having trouble even getting this laptop to do the same thing twice. One time it will boot to the WIndows cd, go through the initial loading files portion and then pop up an error (trying to get 0x code), another time it will go to the disk read error again, and sometimes it just sits there and has a blinking cursor until I shut it off. So far I have tried: 1. taking out the ram chips 1 by 1 and trying in different slots 2. Windows xp, vista and 7 (the xp disk wont even spin up, but is filthy so...) 3. put a new hdd in 4. tried different usb ports 5. crying and punching a pillow (I rent so hitting a wall is a no go) 6. resetting cmos 7. resetting bios 8. booting up to a diagnostics cd and running tests (doesnt find the hdd so those tests are pretty short) 9. booting to a live cd (only worked once or twice, and I was so shocked didnt think to try anything, just sat there looking at the screen) Any help or suggestions (or random insults) would be appreciated. I want to flash the BIOS and update to the newest version, but the HP website says it is some utility and I have to have Windows installed to use it?! more

Open Question: What can I do to make sure I get the job?

I am working 16 hours a week again at a grocery store. I have been working there over a year. During this past year I have been looking for another job and since I couldn't find one I've decided to go to college. College isn't going well. If I want to buy a book at this school there isn't any financial aid to do it with like Community Colleges. I am at the point where I am going to live out my the rest of the year on my mom's couch, getting woken up before I need to by school aged kids, and not having my own space since I am in the living room. I can't even find a job closer to my house! I live in Camden, NJ my job is in Northwest Philly. I am spending $80 for my cell phone bill, my one and only item since my laptop broke, and $153 on transportation in both states! I am at my wits end. I really don't have friends who understand what its like to be broke and not wanting to live with a parent you cannot not stand. Yes, I should be grateful but I cannot take it anymore. I've had close brushes with a new job but they didn't call back. Even at work I am crying after people leave. I am about to cry as I am writing this. What should I do next? Should I call them? Should I write them real e-mails? Yes, we are in a recession but I here of people hiring all the time and people getting jobs. I've already decided that if a part-time job comes my way I am going to take it and work the day I would have been in school. I just want to save for my own place and be able to pay my rent. What should I do? Who should I talk to in the companies I've applied to? more

Resolved Question: A question about porn, viruses, and what to do :S.?

I have been with my boyfriend for almost 4 years and I was away on a business trip for 10 days just recently. We don't have internet at home (trying to save $) so I gave him my office keys so he can still access it when I was away. Anyway, even though it was at my office (after hours) he still managed to take my laptop to work and downloaded about 10 really gross porn movies onto it and all sorts of pictures etc. I am ok with porn and I thought he would be discrete with my laptop but the stuff that was on there was pretty gross and caused about 15 viruses my computers anti-virus picked up on including a trojan horse. The trojan horse I am worried about because it keeps popping up. Anyway the point is I just got the computer (new, with my own $) and it really upset me that now all sorts of things are popping up...also the fact that my boyfriend downloaded that stuff in my office onto my computer (although he did try to erase it but it was so easy to find especially since i had all these new viruses). UGH...and I would be completely ok with him to rent pornos or look at sexy pics or magazines...but messing up my computer for porn made me so angry. SO this is a bit of a rant, I did a search on my computer this morning so I haven't really talked to my boyfriend yet. BUT just wondering how to approach this sensibly...:S Any ideas?? more

im so angry i want to say something but cant. There are 3 of us living here, she was first and we rent the rooms out from her so very cheaply. First i moved in all the rent i pay includes bills, ive nothing to pay elsei get internet which i pay $20 per month for the wireless, which is my chose because i have a laptop..anyways my husband i are currently not living in the same house, we just got married he has loose ends to tie with his housemates ( he's been sharing with 2 friends for the last 1 year) he has to ride the lease out, because if he leaves he will leave them with more to pay and he didnt want to do that to them, so he stays with me most of the time. the otherday she asked me to pay and extra $50 per week. i was so mad. My husband dosent use anything, he eats and takes a shower and thats about all, we buy our own food and pretty much hang out in my huge room out of site. Im angry she asked for $50, thats 200 per month, he dosent even use 200 worth of electricity, infact our bill isnt even 200 per 3 months for usage! I can understand where she is comming from but im happy to pay an extra $20-30 sure but not 50. I also offered to share with the cost of some household products like toilet paper, dish cleaning stuff and household items, she refused saying oh no i buy them you dont have to?... She also annoys me because her boyfriend just upped and left her, she is obsessed with him and she needs to stop it, she is heavily into astrology and sits on her comp ALL day charting stuff, she is like a mad woman with that, all the time she says something is going to happen and my boyfriend will come back to me. She writes little things about him, i love...so n so...she has his pics everywhere and dreams he will come back. Reality is, he ist comming back, he told her he dosent love her and never to contact him again, he even got the police to come and tell her. She is a clean freak, if i leave something she ,moves it, complains about this and that. We are very tidy and oragnised people. My husband was very offended today at hearing the news of the extra rent, because he just did alot of things for her which he asked no money, like moving the lawn, hubbys a vet so he gives her advice about her dog etc...stuff vets usually charge you for to even see the animal for a "assement". He also fixed her whole computer and reforamtted it, put memory in it and installed everythng she wanted so its like brand new. He saved her possibly upto $250.......She complains all the time, and her voice is so annoying like lastnight we decided to share some new release downloaded movies with her, she would be paying $15 to go to the cinema, she sat there whinging that the movie is in widescreen mode, or the quality isnt the same as cinema ( its same to dvd quality) one movie had 2 parts, she's like ohh are there any movies that dont need to click on the 2nd part? i was like whats the problem, its like inserting another disc! Just annoying..i am wondering if im being the bad person here about the rent and whats happened with her bf? can anyone read all this (lol) and point to me whats im saying IS actually annoying and what she has a right about? thanks? more

Resolved Question: What should I do in this situation?

In November of last year, I lost my job and had to move in with a former co-worker. We both understood initially the terms and agreements we made before I moved in. She has a 3 year old that I agreed to babysit whenever she needed me to babysit him. This is a wonderful convenience for her these days (as it would be for many people who has young children). Since I've been in this position before, I know the steps I need to take in order to find another job. Yes, it's more difficult finding employment considering the economy, but I'm a bit more wise to settle for that excuse of not finding a job. Currently, I have no steady flow of income (i.e unemployment benefits) as I am waiting for my appeal to process. Just recently, she told me I need to have a certain amount of money by the end of this month for rent. I sleep on the floor in the living room off to where no one can barely see me, I'm extremely considerate, neither do I have a key to the house. The amount she's asking for is 1/3 of the rent of a 2 bedroom apartment. She also lost her job, but found another one that's paying her less than she desires. It's only obvious of this fact because she's trying to find a way to get money from a person who has NO money. I know it's not the same, but I believe I give her a nice exchange for rent. I clean up after her, her boyfriend, and their son almost daily. No, I am not lazy as I walk nearly a mile everyday to the nearest Starbucks to use my laptop in efforts of applying for and inquiring about jobs whenever I'm not babysitting. Because I have no funds for public transportation, it's difficult to go job hunting along with a stack of resume's. How can I get her to realize and understand yet again my current situation? more

Voting Question: Is my family wrong for doing this?

I'm 37, I have a 16 year old daughter and another child on the way. I have a well-paying job and I can completely support myself. I live in a duplex; my parents live on the other side for convenience and family closeness. My 32 year old brother broke up with his fiancee of 7 years 2 years ago, and has been living at home (in my parents' house) since. My parents have always favored him, and that still shows despite the fact I treat them 100% better than he will ever be capable of. Below I have listed a few of his many faults: -For the past eight months, he has sat home all day playing video games. He quits whatever job he finds (he's a Nurse's aide), because he has no motivation. His fiancee broke up with him because of this; she was tired of being the adult. -He will run out of his own money (which he hasn't had recently due to the fact that he has no job) and expect us to lend him money. My parents (namely my mother) still see him as their little baby and they buy him whatever he asks for (a new car and 3 new laptops have been a few of the purchases in the last two months). -He does not pay rent, and never has. He can spend at least $100 per week on "going out" with his friends, but has never paid anything for scrounging off of his family. -After doing aforementioned "partying", he will come home at 3-5 AM and disturb my household. He has awoken my daughter on many occasions, which I find disrespectful. I have tried locking my inner doors, so he cannot do this, but he knocks on the door incessantly until I appease him and open it. My parents and I always argue about the fact that as long as they continue to baby him, he will never grow up. I've thought about moving, but It's my house. Why should I be forced out of my own home solely because of my brother? Also, moving isn't as easy as it sounds because I have many rescued animals, and that requires the space that I have now. Any advice? more

I am 12 yrs old turning 13 and my aunt let me use her account and her computer because my Laptop is at home! Im 21 years old. Im extremely depressed and nobody takes me seriously or tries to help me. My life seem hopeless because I recently lost my car because I cant afford to pay to get it out of the repair shop. I have no transportation whatsoever to college or work. My rent is due, my electric bill is due, and I have a speeding ticket due. I have $0 dollars to my name. I dont have any friends. My phone got cut off today because I didnt have the money to pay the bill. Im stranded in my apartment with no phone & no car. Ive asked my mom to come get me because Im sad and lonely and she still has not came. My boyfriend just broke up with me & left me alone stranded in my apartment. He verbally and mentally abused me because Im an exotic dancer. I wish I had just One person to turn to but theres no one. I feel like no one cares about me. My own mother wont even come get me. I have no way of contacting anyone except for the internet on my laptop. My life is getting worse everyday, Im losing everything Im about to be homeless & no one seems to care. Ive already taken 10 pills, comtemplating taking more & more if noboby comes to get me today. any advice please anything? more

we rent a room out to one of my friends, she gets it very cheap, her boyfriend comes and goes and we dont mind because we like him, however he is almost staying everynight this last weeks. he dosent do much he showers once in the day, and they sit up and watch tv late in the night, use the internet with their own laptops, we've wireless. They supply and cook their own food, basically they hang out in her room mostly. I thought why dosent he move in with her, she said he wont so i asked that she pay and extra $50 per week for his keep if he is going to sleep more than 3 nights, i said that the bills go up when he is here and its fair and she got really pissy about that. Take in mind that we are in australia so $50 is cheap for us (her rent is $120 per week), its almost nothing. Do you think thats resonable and fair?excuse me, this is someone my husband and i rent a spare room to, not usid like to add the rent of $120 includes unlimited wireless, all electriciy and water,unlimited phone calls to all cell,long dstance and local, not to mention all cleaning products and loo paper. Resolved Question: Urgent help staying in CANADA, please help?

Hello everyone, I am here in canada until February 10th, 2010. I have a monthly check from the walfare here in canada, but I lived with my cousin in which we share the rent, but something bad came up between me and her husband, I mostly stayed in my room with my laptop doing my thing, but they have bell internet and I have a belkin wireless, he wants me to pay for internet, I said no, We had to go out, me, his wife(my cousin), him and their two kids. while I was in the car, I told him that one of the boy's seatbelt was not on, he got out of the car and put his GPS on the hood, he forgot it there and drove off, now he said that I stoll it to sale. I am out of money for this month now, and I really dont want to argue with him because of my cousin. I am waiting for an interview here in canada to get a green card from my wife to go back to the US, the interview is on February 10th. my question is that I wanted a place to stay until that time. Can someone tell me how to get into the shelter in canada to stay until February 10. where should I go? what shouls I do ? because I wanted to get out of here now, I really cannot take it with this guy here. please help more

I would like to buy a router for my friend.. she couldn't have her own internet because her stepfather is the one who gets to control the internet / modem. Her internet is pretty much limited, open til 11pm. There's no open Wi-Fi in her neighborhood... and she's paying her own rent for living in her stepfather's house. Resolved Question: How much do I owe my land lady?

I lived at a house paying month to month rent and did not sign a lease. I lived there for 9 months and always paid my share of the rent. I moved in paying my rent plus the security deposit of $300. Now I moved out because my computer crashed and became too slow for me to work from home (I work at home). My boyfriend is a computer tech but the computer was too poorly in shape that even if the virus' were removed and I got it working, it was still too old to use and I couldn't do my job. Therefore, I could not pay rent and I take full responsibility for that. So on December 1st, I told the land lady I couldn't pay my share of $300 for rent but I gave her my boyfriends share, as he also pays $300. So she got $300 from him and not my share. But I also told her that day that we were moving out in 30 days. At the time, I got the offer to go to NY and told her I needed to go, so I can work there and get a free laptop as a gift (I'm in NY now and enjoying my free laptop right now =). Then I told her I would wire her the money I owe after I get my first check. Well, I got my first check and called her to get her information to wire her the money that I owe. I never got my security deposit back even though the house is in perfect condition but she won't give it back (which I can understand). I was supposed to leave on January 1st but really didn't leave until January 4th because there was a lot more cleaning to do and I didn't have anyone to help move my stuff out. So I called her and will wire her money tomorrow but she is telling me that I owe $600 for December and the the entire month of January. Plus I didn't get my sec. deposit back. Do I really owe her all of this or is she just trying to get extra cash? What do you think? more

Resolved Question: Should I buy a laptop backpack for my mac book pro or just a carrying case to put the laptop in?

I take the mac book pro to school essentially to record lectures and take notes. I want to buy a digital recorder in the near future to eliminate the need to record lectures on the laptop. And I think I can just rent laptops out from the library to take notes on, although they don't have a recording feature. So given everything I just said I don't know if a laptop backpack would be the right choice for me b/c I don't know for how long I will be taking the laptop to school. Maybe I should just buy a laptop sleeve or something to put it in and put that into my regular backpack. I don't really want to buy a briefcase type thing b/c I would probably be more likely to leave it somewhere. I'd like to keep as much stuff in one thing as possible to eliminate the risk of losing things (i.e., a backpack). I think the problem with laptop backpacks is that they put the laptop compartment in the very back of the laptop where books could press up against it. That's not good! And they are probably kinda pricy. So what do y'all think? more

i have windows 7 i JUST bought the computer like LITERALLY 4 hours ago brand new. it's an acer laptop and when i try getting on certain websites the security doesn't let me because of these ''certificates'' aren't allowing the site. ALL it does is it keeps refreshing the page and shows a lock. does ANYONE know how i can just GET RID of these certificates so i can go on WEBSITES?? i took it to rent a center and the freaking guy just uninstalled mcaffee security figuring that's what the problem was but wowwww that obviously wasn't it. someone PLEASE help me. my yahoo im is on my profile. k thanks. more

Resolved Question: Why is this fair (Brown giving away free laptops)?

Little story here. I have two sisters in laws, both 30 years old. Sister A) worked for years to afford a nice little house in a good area, she has just had a son at the age of 30 and her husband lives over 200 miles away during the week as it was where the best paying job he could get was. As a result he doesn't get to see his kids much. Sister B) Had a kid when she was 17 and another a couple of years later. She has a free house which is EXACTLY the same as Sister B's but in a **** area. She has not worked in since she had her fist child. Rent, all utility bills, TV, broadband, everything is payed by the taxpayer. She recently decided to got to college which she obviously doesn't have to pay for AND gets free childcare to do so. She will be one of the 'deserving' families getting free laptops. Why work hard in this country Sister A is basically funding Sister B's lifestyle via taxes and can barely afford to support her own family as she has no financial help. What has it come to when decent hardworking people end up with less in their pockets than doleites? What is the incentive to get rich if they make being poor so comfortable? More comfortable than the lives of people that work? Why is this allowed to happen in the UK?I am sure a free laptop and broadband connection will fill their hungry bellies kevin TNo doubt Sister B's kids will cotton on to the ides that if they can't be arsed working like their mother the government will just give them anything they want for free. Whilst if they actually work for what they want and pay for everything themselves they will get half their money took off them to fund other peoples lifestyles. These kids are hardly disadvantaged. Her dole money provided her 11 year old with an iPod touch and a laptop and her six year old a £150 interactive toy dinosaur for chirstmas. more

Voting Question: Am I the worst person in the world?

I had this best friend, Lily, she and I were inseparable. Honestly, we shared every secret, we could have complete conversations with each other without anyone having the slightest idea of what we were talking about... seriously. Her mother was dating my cousin, and she become family. Once her mother and my cousin split up, she was still family and we were closer then ever. But even though we were best friends, and so much alike, she was ready to date and I was not, I liked boys, but I wasn't ready for all that drama, so when I would like someone and she would decide she to liked them, I told her to go for it, it wasn't like I was going to... There were twins that went to my school, and I really liked one of them, so we decided that we should date them, I mean what best friends haven't joked about dating twins... since I already liked Joey, and I knew that she liked to like the guys I liked, I didn't say anything, and she was like "I want Mike! He's soo much hotter." I was totally for that, Good. So we hang out with them, and she dates Mike, and I just hang out with Joey, then she decides she wants to date Joey.. once again, I give up the guy I like for her, because it probably wouldn't have happened for us anyway... Life goes by, she ends up with someone completely different, and we haven't talked in like a year.. We start talking again, at this point she is 17, has her fiancé living with her at her Dad's... he treats her like dirt. So we start hanging out a lot again, she tells me she wants to leave her fiancé. I totally support her. I am there for her 100%. I had to work the next day, so when all of my friends went out, I couldn't go, but Mike went. Her fiancé didn't like her going out, no less with a guy, but she went anyway, that night her and Mike hooked up. I don't know about any of this happening until Mike's sister tells me about it a week later, and I am shocked that she didn't tell me, so that night, I am watching tv in my room, and she comes in with Joey... most people can't tell them apart, but since I have liked Joey since I was a kid, I know him from his brother... So I say hi, and look at her like, umm, do you know your with Joey, and she says that they are hanging out now... So I was stupid and I pretended to be okay with it, but she knows me, so she knows I wasn't. Well within the week, she was in love with him... even though she was still kinda in the process of a break up, and just spend the days before that with his twin brother... Lily's father kicks her out, and I offer for her to move in with me, because my mother passed away like 8 months before that in my house and my Dad and brother moved, and I didn't want to live in that house, alone. I was alittle selfish, but she was getting a good deal.. all she had to do was pay half the bills no rent... well to make this part alittle shorter I supported her for 4 months... She didn't have a job, I paid the bills, cleaned the house, she would stay awake all night long, being as loud as possible, when I had to work the next day... She took over my laptop and left it in her room all the time, I finally take it back to find dirty pictures of her on the desktop.... it was horrible.. everything about living with her was bad... But the worst was that I had to see her and Joey together... I felt soo uncomfortable around him, and now I know it's because I was still really liking him... but at the time didn't know why I didn't want them together, other then the fact that she didn't trust him. She almost broke up with him over a myspace message (she broke into his account and read) that some girl wrote to him and said it was nice seeing you today. (she saw him at work, that was it.) But I told her to let him explain it to her, so we took my car, with my gas money over to his Sisters house (where he was staying) I had to go inside and get him and she yelled at him for like 20 minutes while I waited in the car... So it's my fault they stayed together that time. Everyone who knows me, kept telling me that Joey really liked me and he would leave Lily for me, he has liked me for years... but I wasn't going to hurt my friend. So I avoided him at all cost! When he would stay at our house (almost every night, even though I told her from the beginning that he could not live there) I would be late for work because I didn't want to be alone with him in the morning... because Lily got to sleep all day and Joey an I both worked. I would hang out at other people's houses after work so I didn't have to wait with him for her to get home... I did everything and anything to not even look at him. I got Lily a job where I worked, I put my name on the line for her to get hired... to be a good friend. She had no idea how much work I was doing to be a good friend to her.. then one night she said she thought she was pregnant. And she was scared... she didn't want to have a baby with Joey... she asked if she could still live with me if she had a baby,I said of course, we have another room, it's really small but for now, it could work, I'll help however I can... I bought her the pregnancy test because she had to pay her speeding ticket, and it was neg. She was upset!Then like 4 pregnancy test and 1 week later, she says she is staying at Joey's sisters with him for the night, I lock the door, go to sleep... at 3 in the morning she is pounding on the door, she forget her keys and her and Joey were going to stay home instead... So at 3 in the morning, she is all hyper and happy, showing me the new laptop that he brought her, and going on and on... I was excited for her and me, because that met I got my laptop back, but I didn't say that, I was just really happy for both of us.. so after a few minutes I go back to sleep.. we had dinner at my Aunts for thanksgiving dinner the next day... that morning I tried to talk to her like 8 times, and she was in a bad mood, and she wouldn't even hold a small conversation with me, all she would do is play on her new laptop. As I was getting my stuff together to leave for my Aunts, the phone rang it was my friend Rita, She was like "OH MY GOD, tell Lily Congrats!!" I was like "um, okay, why?" "She's engaged!"So yeah, my best friend was engaged and never told me!! I didn't say anything on the ride over to my aunts... I mean how do you bring that up... So when we pulled into my Aunts drive way she asked what was wrong and I told her "It's alittle upsetting when your best friend doesn't tell you she is getting married." I did the nice things, I went to her baby shower, answered her calls... listened to her talk about her life.. and basically how much she hated Joey...When she was 9 months pregnant her Mom kicked her out, her Dad didn't have room for her, and she needed somewhere to live, fast, since she was about to pop. So I convinced my Dad to rent to her and Joey, even though he had other people that he knew that wanted to live in that house. After weeks of me, helping clean and paint, and get the house just right for her... she said they couldn't afford it. And left my Dad high and dry. Once again, I do the right thing, I visit her in the hospital when she has her baby, I listen to her complain about motherhood, and being a wife... finally I can't do it no more. She would go from "I love my Baby girl and husband" to "Fu*k my life"One day Joey's sister calls me and asked me if I heard what Lily said.. I was shocked, she was saying he had been beating her up, and neglecting the baby. He could never ever do that. I know that, everyone knows that, but she breaks up with him, complains to me.. Blah blah blah… She is trying to take complete custody of their daughter, he has supervised visits with her. She is sleeping around, yet tells him to hold off on the divorce… She has a restraining order against him that she keeps violating… she keeps taking more and more of his money because the baby needs “diapers.” Even though he just brought a million of them so she wouldn’t run out “again”. He does everything he can for her, he tells her he loves her and it will never change, his whole myspace is about her and their baby. All he wants is a family. He needs his baby.So his visitation is done at my friends house, because my friend is the baby Godmother, and it was most comfortable for Joey and Lily with her (Nikki) for the visitation, and hang out at Nikki’s a lot. So I am now hanging out with Joey a lot. And I feel horrible because even though Lily wasn’t the best friend to me, I am still the person I am, with very strong values, but I can’t help myself from liking Joey, And I mean liking him. And honestly I think he is in love with the idea of her, not her. He wants his family. He wants to spend everyday with his daughter. Not be told he is a danger to her.. And have supervised visits. Grr. I hate myself because I can’t stop these feelings. I get to be the “good friend” and listen to him go on and on about Lily.. And how much he misses her.. But when I see him with his daughter, my heart melts, he is such a good Dad. He’s soo sweet with her…Nikki says that he told her boyfriend that he really likes me. 18 months ago a lad turned up at the door ( a friend of a friend) asking if he could rent a small barn conversion we have in the garden just for a couple of weeks. we agreed he would pay £100 a week and we would cover all the bills for him. He basically never moved out and we have had this arrangement for the last 18 months. no formal agreements. 6 weeks ago he went on holiday to india and his parents are now telling us he is not coming back and they want to come and collect all of his belongings. I have been living at my parents house since I moved back from college ( where I lived with just my bf) due to money issues. I'm going back to school in September, and at 20 years old I don't have my degree and I'm only working part time at a retail store averaging 20hrs a week and paying back student loans (among a few other bills). My parents currently let me live in the smallest bedroom in the house which is about 10 x 5 ft. It also has paper thin walls and there is absolutely no privacy. Also, their water heater is going so I take 3min showers and I do my laundry once every 1-2 weeks. I have been extremely grateful for letting come back to the house, however they do not like what I am currently contributing to the household. I buy groceries every now and then, do a bit of chores around the house, and constantly put gas in their car. For about 4 months I gave them $100 per month on top of what i've contributed. Now, since the one year mark has come upon us for me living here, they want $240 a month ($60 a week). They claim I use too much of the electricity---I use one small lamp and my laptop for a couple hours when I get home from work AND I'm mostly at my boyfriends house anyway. They also say that I use too much of the water---again, I take 3min showers. And lastly, they say that the heat costs too much---I am always freezing in the house!! Also, wouldn't they keep the heat on if I wasn't there?!! Basically my question is if there is a guideline of what should be available if you were to rent out a room. So they move FAA-AAR away, and May is trying to get through living on a farm. To make things worse, her mother promised a good friend she would take care of her teenage daughter for a while until she got back from a vacation. She acts very strange. Then May finds out she is from Germany, and was supposed to be named princess, but she wanted to be a normal american girl. But when her castle gets taken over, she goes back. Sneakily, May follows. So, first of all, I'm 14, so at that age, I'm obviously no angel. Sure, i admit, i talk back to my mom, sometimes don't clean my room when she asks me to etc. But I'm no "rebellious" teen. I get an above 90% average, got accepted into a gifted literature program that people all around the my country audition for, I've never smoked or done drugs, I don't drink alcohol, I never skip class. One time, my mom went on my facebook, and found a picture of me in jean shorts, and a t-shirt (the T-shirt wasn't even "revealing") She started screaming at me, took away my laptop (and later broke it) called me a "slut" saying I'm going nowhere in life if i continue to act like such a whore. (and many other sweet mother to daughter compliments) On a Friday night, she caught me awake at 1:30am (not even that late) talking to someone on msn on the family computer. She freaked out. Said she was kicking me out, that i could live on the streets for all she cared, and that I'd be forced to work minimum wage jobs for lack of education, live in a dump full of murder and crime, and not have enough money to "pay for some f*cking internet service to continue your stupid talking with your so called friends". I then, told her to "shut the hell up" , so she replied by pulling the chair out from underneath me, telling me to god to bed, or hit the streets. She says that if I'm not out of the house by 18, she'll make me pay rent, or kick me out if i don't get a university scholarship that pays for 100% my tuition. If i get 94% on a test, her first reaction is to yell "what the hell happened to the other 6%, what dumbass mistake did you make to blow that?!" I've just grown soooo tired of having nothing to look forward to, but to come home to my mother calling me a b*tch, throwing something at me, and telling me she wishes she'd had an abortion with me. My mother and I have never been close. When i was a kid, i had sleep paralysis hallucinations.(THE most terrifying experience of a lifetime, for those who aren't quite sure what it is) After the "episode" I'd go into her room crying, and she'd just scream at me for waking her up, and literally drag me out of her room, push me into the hallway, and lock her door. So, obviously, there never really was a "mother-child bond". And it's not like i can just run to my dad for this. For his job, he gets stationed in many different places around the globe, so I usually talk to him on the phone once a week, and see him for 3-6 days about 3 times a year. My other relatives are all kind of estranged, except for my grandma on my mom's side, but she's in and out of the hospital with bad health problems, so living with her isn't really a realistic option. Is it possible to "approach" my mother about this??? Should i just tough it out for the next couple years, and leave everything behind once i've got a driving license, and a bit of saved money? I've really just had it. My mom is making me clinically depressed--I'm having horrible thoughts i shouldn't be having, I just need help with what i can do to fix this??? --Thanks in advance to anyone who gives some sort of advice. Summary: Two roommates, one we'll call R and another E. E is my boyfriend's sister and has turned out to be a complete brat. We moved in Sept. 15th and have a one year lease. At this point E has consistently disrespected our belongings and the lease agreement to an extent. She gave her boyfriend of one month, as well as mine/her brother when R and I told her several times we were not comfortable with that. No reason to either since our landlord is on the other side of this twin house and works out of it his home. He comes home with her at 5 and leaves at 8am when they go to work. There were several times inwhich I caught him in our home without anyone there. The first was when I came home from church. I know I locked the door and I came home to find him in the bathroom with his laptop already set up and tv on. He said the door was unlocked, that he just got there, and that E had told him she would be there in a ten-fifteen minutes. That did not match up with the scenario. Not to mention E did not come home for another ten min. Besides, why would he try to get into the house when there are no cars in the driveway, aka no one home. There were other times when I was downstairs and he came to the door and stopped going for the door knob when he saw me. E did not come home for 45 min-an hour. Again he said "E told him she would be home soon." Similar situations have also occurred. He has been at our house even more frequently since E was supposedly "allowed to work from home" though she is never working on her work laptop. Since her 90 probation period (graphic designer with a desk job from 8-5) ended around the same time as this began we are assuming she is currently unemployed and her boyfriend is supplying money for rent. Her dog has also become an issue. The only pet allowed on the lease is R's cat, though there was a verbal agreement that the dog was allowed to be there on the weekends with R's permission. The dog is there everyday. The animal poops/pees everywhere and prevents R from letting her cat out due to the dog's tendency to pee/poop in R's room (which she has to leave open so the cat has access to the litter box.) In the second month E 'assigned' chores. When I refused to do mine (trash), considering I'm an adult who cleans up after herself, she went into my room and put the trash and recyclables next to my bed. Another problem we have encountered is her constant moving/stealing/hiding our personal property. In the beginning she hid my brand new chess set saying it was 'in her way' and she would not return it because i would put it back on the side table. Please note all the furniture in the house is R's. I finally found it after digging through one of the closets. In the past month she has also stolen, and damaged my record player. She first moved it into the closet, without my permission, because she wanted to use that space as bench style seating (it was on top of R's hope chest and a blanket which she allowed me to do.) When I returned home that night it was not there and neither was the key to the shed. I had to go to my landlord and ask him to open the shed where I found not only my record player but a box of dvds. Her excuse was that "her friend had beer on it and didn't want it to get ruined" I, again, returned the record player to the its original spot. The next night I came home to find it gone. When I looked in the closet I found that it literally had been tossed in there. It was slanted and falling off of two vacuums. My box of dvds had also been tossed in there and they had spilled everywhere. That night our landlord go involved. She told him the record player was a hazard because "it was a tripping hazard, and, should her dog jump up there, could easily slide off". Eventually, I decided to move it upstairs due to her constant threats of 'future action'. It was then that I realized it was broken. The phono button had broke off causing the connection to the speakers to fail. R's father was able to fix it (he's an electrical engineer) but the fact remains. Recently she has taken to petty things, that aren't of legal value but demonstrate the living conditions: she constantly curses me out, says completely disrespectful things about myself, my boyfriend, my job and my family. She invites people over only to gossip for hours (3 hrs. today) about me. Her verbal abuse has caused my pre-existing depression to worsen to the point of relapse. Please note my room does not have a door, only a spiral staircase leading up to it so I cannot even escape to my room. Sometimes she even screams up it at me. She fails to do any chores and has left it to the point that two weeks had gone by and we were practically out of everything. Now today, our landlord promised us he would evict her under the condition we cover her rent. We agreed. He brought her in and told her. My brother let an aquantince & his girlfriend stay with him for 2 1/2 weeks until they found some where else to go because they were literally homeless, They werent on the lease, they didnt recieve mail there and they never paid rent the only belongings they had were clothes and what happened to be stolen items from their last place of residencey. (My brother did not know this until after he made them leave) They ended up stealing my brothers new nikon digital camera and 8 gig sim card, and a laptop that was literally on it's last leg. It was very old and wasnt working correctly, so we really werent to upset about that, the camera was a different story it was expensive! when he found this out he made them leave and they left some of "their" belongings. We couldnt proove they stole the items, but we did find the sim card with the sticker ripped off but it still had all of my brothers pictures on it. (my brother also moved the day after he kicked them out his lease will be up on the 1st on jan, but with the holidays he decided to move before christmas.) The theifs last roomate got in contact with my brother and described all of the stolen items to him, and my brother found them in the little bit of junk they left. Their old roomate has a police report with all of the stolen items listed, we are going to contact the police and let them know what we found, but my question is what rights, if any do they have? Because the girl is now calling and harrasing my brothers girlfriend through email as well wanting the items that are stolen. There are a couple things that werent from the old roomates house, but there worth no value and we dont want anything to do with these people. To be honest I dont know what their capable of, the guy we just found out is on probation (we found a paper with the probation officers name on it) the box of stuff it collecting dust in his garage, but i dont want to risk them following my brother home, or trying to jump him if he trys to return these items, they all are clearly stolen items. ( for example, a couple sets of car keys that even have the lock unlock feature on it, they dont own a car, and a pool stick with some random guys name on it, a couple of cell phones that dont even work but they have sim cards from the actual owners..) we honestly would like to just trash the stuff that isnt from their ex roomate. When my brother found out they stole those items from him and kicked them out they were so messed up on prescription pills they werent even coherint when they were packing, so they dont even know what they left. Okay so I wuz at work last week and there wasn't anything going on so I decided to pull up sum porn sites on MY OWN LAPTOP and my boss sudenly came into the room and saw me and he fired me... A friend for 8 years keeps borrowing money from me. I know his situation... He literally can't eat the whole day in his house because he don't got a cent in his pocket and neither does his father. Their rent is due like more than 10,000 dollars and they both are unemployed.He's 21. He started coming to my house and fortunately for him I was home. (It was my final's week so I stayed home all day studying....and he came...) I explained that I can't hang out with him so he played with my guitar, laptop etc etc. I didn't kinda like it but i didn't mention it. He basically came everyday after that. He probably just had to go back home on the days I'm not there but on most of the days he came and I was there. I fed him like dinner (the only thing he ate during the whole day at like 7pm) And after a few days he started asking for a 10 dollar, so I gave him and he picked cigarrete butts from streets and smoked them so I bought him a pack of cigarettes. And ever since then he asks for like 20 dollars like every 3 days. I have saved some money like 4k dollars from working and scholorship and stuff. I have stopped working for a while so the money is like 3.3k now. He and my other friends went camping and stuff and me and my other friend covered for this guy and I ended up spending like 300 dollars. After that, I gave him like 150 dollars again and he does not stop asking for money What';s actually funny is that, I think he's using me. We have been friends for more than 8 years. (since 7th grade) But we didnt really hang out much and now that hes ina really bad condition he asks ppl for money and he says like you and I are friends for such a long time. I feel comfortable around you and you know i'll give this money back and stuff. Really I have spent in like 3 years like more than 300 dollarsfor him. Should I keep paying for him because We ARE friends? and Friends do value more OR Just refuse and if yes, How should i refuse..? I can't refuse very well. Resolved Question: VISTA GRR .. RUNING VERY SLOWLY & CRAZY !?

i recently got a pc dell 1501 i purchsed it fom rent a center when i got the pc it was xp windows . my charger wasnt working properly so i brought it back for them to fix becuase i have insurance for it for a yr after purchse . when i picked up my pc after the fixing of the charger they erased my pc and put windows vista on it !!!!! now my pc runs like crap ! im not even kidding when i turn the pc on it takes at least 5-7 min before you reach the welcome screen .once you get to the deskop i only have my internet securty , volume ,clock and battery icon load on the task bar . and i have to wait even longer for that load 3-6 min once everything is loaded i like to get on the internet and when i click on the internet it takes 10-14 min before the screen pops up .if im not trying to get on the internet such as to play solitaire or to go to my control panel or disk fragment it takes the same amount time to load even those programs. I delete my cookies automaticaly i run my internet sevurity for viruses and infections scan every day before i go to bed so once a day i run my disk fragment once a wk and nothing seems to make it run better and once u actually get on to the internet as it loads my pc freezes a little and it says this program ( blah blah ... ) is not responding ! i have ran out of ideas ive only had this pc for 6 months and i dont have any online games or programs that i downloaded off the net or from a cd to my pc .i have straight internet hooked to the bac of my pc laptop so it has excellent internet connection and it runs like windows 98 on a very very cheap dial up PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111 more

Resolved Question: Sound on my video camera messed up?

I have a Canon camcorder. I don't know what the problem is with the sound. I recorded some DVD's and they play back in the camcorder....They also play fine on a normal DVD player but for some reason when I played it on my laptop (using Windows Media) and there was NO SOUND! Why? I noticed Windows has done this with other DVD's too (like some movies I rent play normal and some don't have sound) but not all.....WHY? Is something up with Windows? Is it a problem with the DVD player in my computer? Do I need to change some setting? Why would I be able to see a picture but no sound? This is annoying! .I don't think my computer is on mute....It plays music cd's and streaming video just fine....Is there some setting I am missing here? more

i've recently moved in with an old friend (i have been living in another state for the last 10 years) at his invitation. he needed a house-sitter/roommate for his home because his job has generally been taking him away 3 weeks per month and he worries about leaving his 4 bedroom house vacant and unmaintained. i am planning a move to france in spring of next year, so it seemed like a great temporary situation for me with someone i like. i am a female mild introvert in my early 40's, as is he. i moved in sept and spent the first 3 weeks in the house alone. though i made a big effort not to disturb the existing arrangements, he wasn't here and had left no space for me; the cupboards, closets, and even all the bedrooms were filled with furniture. my room is in the basement which also has a tiny bathroom and a sitting area, but no cable, internet, kitchen, or outdoor access. i assumed we would share the communal areas (kitchen, living, dining) and made the mistake of using those areas for about 1-2 hours a day in the first week or two he was here. i started sensing a very irritated vibe from him, but couldn't figure out what was wrong. he never said hello or goodbye, refused any invitation i offered (meals,dvd,etc), and generally acted irritated or interrupted whenever i asked him a question(practical things like garbage days, where to put things, ect). my feelings were hurt and i started to withdraw into the basement. to his credit, after about 6 weeks, he did hook up a wireless internet box so i can use my laptop downstairs, and hooked up an extra basic cable box he had, but this seems only fair as i am paying rent and 1/2 of all the bills (including his tivo which isn't wired downstairs). 4 or 5 days would go by without our speaking to each other. silence and quiet are fine with me, but this quiet is tense and feels almost faintly hostile... last time he left for 2 months and scheduled a kitchen remodel during his absence (which he had not warned me about before i moved in). for 4.5 weeks i had no stove, no sink except a miniscule bathroom basement sink, no kitchen counter, plastic on the walls and floors, etc. he left me with the responsibility of dealing with the contractor, choosing wall paint color, chosing tiles, and making all many decisions in his absence. i even ended up paying over $1,000 expenses for him (which i don't mind, he is totally responsible, i just want to show i'm making an effort). i cleaned the entire upstairs (or should i say HIS space) after the work was finished out of necessity. he got home 2 weeks later to a spotless house, paid bills, etc. he didn't thank me for any of it, just said he was sorry he had figured the work would only be a couple days. after arriving home last week he said he wanted to decorate the house for xmas, and go get a tree. we went together to buy a tree (our first joint activity of any kind in the 4 months since i came), which i paid for, and then he immediately started complaining that he wanted to go home. so we put the tree in the garage, and i told him that whenever he was ready to decorate to let me know. he ends up "sneaking" the tree out the garage door and around the house (so he doesn't pass me holed up in the basement), takes it upstairs, and decorates it while i am downstairs on the computer waiting for him to come get me. when i later went up to the kitchen for a drink i see the tree up, the decor finished and he is relaxing on the couch. it's very clear that my presence upstairs isn't desired. i can't help but take this as an indication that he doesn't want me living in his house. we don't speak except for a few words every 4-5 days, and i'm living in a dark basement afraid to even cook a regular meal for myself because i feel like i'm disturbing him doing anything upstairs. so five days ago i told him nicely that i was looking for another place and would be out as soon as i could. he acted suprised and asked why. shocked, i told him it obviously wasn't working out and cited several examples of why i felt "bad energy". he didn't say much, and i went back downstairs. the next morning he came downstairs and said he wanted to apologize. he said he had thought about it all night, he had acted like a jerk, he completely understood how i felt and he was sorry he had hurt my feelings. he said he was just "that way", and that it had nothing to do with me. No really... She keeps the microwave on top the clothes-washer, because her miniature glass bottle collection takes up the whole counter. She refuses to let me unplug the refridgerator in the garage, yet she keeps literally *nothing* in it (what's in it right now? A loaf of bread that could be kept in the inside refridgerator if not the cabinet.)...yet wonders why her electric bill was almost $600 last month. Currently she's had the water turned off for non-payment, and sees nothing wrong with using water that's been stored for "emergencies" for God knows how long outside (in plastic bottles that leach chemicals)...for cooking. She's got twelve, yes count em TWELVE cats, not to mention a dog, two rabbits, and a BROWN fish tank. The Christmas tree has sat half-set up for over a week, and she has made no attempt to set it up the rest of the way. She uses $10 a trip, refuses to walk the one mile to the store, when she goes and buys food with rent money, then acts surprised that community resources are available and says, "Oh, well you can't return food. Nothing I can do now.".....over and over. And to top it off, sees nothing wrong with my brother buying a laptop for himself when he refuses to go to school (he's 18, a senior in high school). I mean, it's her life and her house...but...she's just got things so backwards. How do I get her to shape up? It would be different if she had *so* much stuff to do or was disabled or something, but all she does is sit around. My sis. lost her Job last October, and instead of getting worried about and concentrating on looking for a job, she is so worried about her pets and farm on face book.that almost all her time were spent on those crap, and the way i look at it ,she is not trying hard to look for a job.last time when she is online she said that she is in her friends house cause her laptop is not working.she is there because of her farm and pets. my dad is under tremendous pressure after setting up a new Business this year. He has put every penny he owns into this Business which now means we have to rent our house we live in. its just me and my dad at home, he doesn't have many friends he never goes out & he always complains to me how skint he is. i don't know what to say back because i earn a regular apprentice wage which suits my sociable lifestyle and i buy what i want. I have lent him money before, only the odd £20 here and there and never got a penny back. i don't mind this and don't dare ask for it as i feel like i would be insulting my dad. im just so worried about him. hes always online talking to different women on match.com and when he does go out its only with girls he has met on the internet. my dad's also constantly on his laptop, from 7am (before I am awake) until gone 1am (long after I go to bed) I cant say anything or do anything to make him a bit happier. He smokes like a chimney and I cannot see my dad living long, making me homeless and having to go into care (as I am only 17) im so worried and I just do not know what I can do or say.
