Touchpad Errors On Laptops Questions asked
Open Question: I need to download a recovery disk for my toshiba laptop (L305D-S5892).?
I can't use my touchpad nor download a synaptics driver, since the mouse driver is not on the device manager. I've tried to set up the driver but I get a install failed error in the installation wizard. I tried to restore my computer but I get an message saying that there is an error in the C drive. I also tried to scan the C drive but no luck. I also tried to reset my laptop to factory settings but I couldn't do that either. I'm not sure if I was doing it correctly. Can anyone please help? I'm starting classes in about a month and I really can't afford to buy another laptop. Please!!
moreVoting Question: What would your diagnose be if your laptop shut downs suddenly?
Laptop : Dell XPS M1530
Problem :
- Laptop screen dims out and the system just stops running (Similar effect to when you shut the laptop by pressing the power button).
- When the laptop is turned back on, no errors appeared and the laptop runs like normal.
Additional things to consider :
- Laptop was actively used before the shut down occurred; loading graphic web games etc.
- The area on the left of the touchpad is very hot.
- Laptop has a cooler placed under it (Notepal brand by Cooler Master)
- Shut downs occur sporadically; sometimes every once a week, sometimes two days in a row.
- Laptop is generally up and running all the time.
moreResolved Question: Alienware M17x VS Macbook Pro?
How do the two compare? Lets say a $3000 M17x vs $3000 Macbook Pro
First, i'd like to talk about my experience with the M17x.
PROS
-Fans. The fans are extremely quiet. You can rarely hear the fan even when it is dead silent. Also, the air circulation is great because the whole bottom of the laptop is basically vents. Also the fact that the laptop is made of metal which is a great heat conductor.
CONS
-Big and Heavy. I don't really mind because its my desktop replacement but moving it around the house is a pain.
-MANY small problems. Double-Beeps at BIOS with false error, Touch Sense media buttons and lighting often malfunction, etc
-Wrist rest. There is a wrist rest in the middle of the laptop except the fact that the keyboard is positioned on the left side because of the numpad. So my right hand benefits from the wrist rest while my left hand rests on a point surface.
-Support sucks. When I try online technical support it says my computer isn't supported. I just got it like 2 months ago.
Now some information about the uses of my laptop
Some Information
-Don't play games
-MAINLY used for Homework (Microsoft Office), Surfing Web (Firefox) and Media (WMP/VLC)
-Dont really care that Macs don't get virus cause I rarely get any virus on a PC.
Questions
-How do they compare?
-How is the Macbook Pro compared to my experience with the M17x?
-Will Microsoft Word work on Mac? What about Adobe products? Firefox?
-How does the touchpad work? I notice theres no buttons so im guessing that you have to lift your finger and tap the touchpad to make a click? I dislike that because I think that involves more movement compared to having you finger on a button and pushing it down to make a click.
-The bottom of the Mac is a flat surface. How good is the air circulation?
-What would be the main differences when switching from Windows 7 to Mac OS (Whichever is best)

moreVoting Question: Touch pad software issue...?
OK I have an HP Compaq nx7400 laptop and I upgraded its memory and storage. The problem is that my Synaptics Touchpad software keeps crashing on me. Like half an hour after startup it crashes. I don't notice it at first, but when I try to use the scroll bars on the side of the pad they wouldn't operate. Please help! And besides I've tried to reboot and have even reinstalled the software.
P.S When I try to open the mouse options in the control panel (to rest the device), it gives me an error message and prompts for the deletion of the software.

My laptop's touchpad no longer works, not a huge deal since I use a wireless mouse but it is getting a bit annyoing when I don't want to use the wireless mouse or when I'm in my car. When I try to go to my "mouse" settings an error pops up reading "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver", it asks me if I want to uninstall it but when I click no it says " Rundll32 has stopped working".
My D button my laptop's keyboard also is getting stuck due to my gaming habits and my Gateway warranty is up, if I take it to Best Buy (I have a 2 year warranty with them) will they be able to replace it for me?
My laptop's built in mic doesn't work, when I try to use it on Skype, etc. it makes a loud hissing noise. I have no idea why it is doing this since I've never damaged this laptop?

moreResolved Question: Scrolling on touchpad won't work..?
I always used the scrolling function where there is a scrolling-zone on the right hand side of the touchpad, but ever since my laptop had a software error and had to be fixed (I think they completely redid the software and did loads of hardware tests and stuff) the icon in my tray is a different one, and the scrolling thing won't work - there's no option for it in the properties in control panel.
(it's the syanptics pointing device, by the way)
I downloaded another synaptics one from the toshiba website (for my laptop, a toshiba satellite a200-1aa) and the Alps one, which apparently has the scroll option, but when I click uninstall for the driver i have at the moment it says it has to reboot, and that the pointer might not work afterwards - so how do I install the new one, and what does rebooting do anyway? will it delete my programs and stuff?
Please can anyone help me, it's really annoying, I use this practically all the time. thanks.
sorry for the long question lol :)
moreResolved Question: Which laptop should I pick: Hp tx2z vs. Mac?
I'm looking into a laptop to buy soon and can't choose between these two.
First there is the Mac. Which most would say is the superior model. I would agree but I'm just looking for other opinions.
Pros so far about the Mac:
-less viruses
-high quality
-little to no problems
-graphics are amazing
-doesn't break down
-easy to use
-overall is a great computer
Cons about Mac
-compatibility with some programs
-price
Then there is the Hp tx2z which I really like because of it's touchpad capabilities
Pros about Hp
-touchscreen capabilities
-small and compact
-easy to use
-fun
-cool outer design
Cons(these are mostly hearsay from reviews)
-hazy screen
-breaks down
-gets hot
-loud
-touchscreen breaks down after a while
-many people have returned broken ones
Yes, the obvious choice would be a Mac, but the thing is I'm not sure whether to believe all the errors people describe. They could be picky, not good with computers or maybe theirs were early models.
Here is what I need my new computer to be able to do. My desktop right now breaks down all the time and I would rather not have to go through all the procedures I've had to do with it.
-graphic design(includes a lot of photoshopping)
-freelance writing/creative writing
-homework
-IMing
-facebook
-internet
Note: I like to run many programs at once and hate hate hate slow computers. I need speed, efficiency, accuracy, and a computer that will last. I have moderate to advanced level with dealing with computers but would just like some outside help.
Thanks so much :)Also: I am not a gamer, can afford either laptop, use Microsoft Word, and am on youtube daily

moreResolved Question: Freezing laptop, videos load slow, and a blue screen problem. Help?
Hello~.
My laptop is driving me mad. I’ve only had it for three months now and it’s shooting out problem after problem. I’d greatly appreciate it if you could help me.
I have three questions here. The first one - the one that is most aggravating to me - is the freezing problem. My laptop does this at least once a week and there is absolutely no way to unfreeze it without using the dreadful power button. From what I can tell, there is no pattern to why it’s freezing. Every time it’s done it, I’ve been in a different website, program, etc. I try not to have too many programs open at one time, and I rarely do, so I doubt that’s the cause.
The second one is that my videos load slow. Yeah, I know, the first thing that came to my mind is an out of date video card/driver. I downloaded Driver Detective, thinking that it was free like it said, but apparently I have to pay to fix them. I just want to make sure that it is, in fact, an out of date driver/card that’s causing it before I make a purchase. A four minute HD video takes approximately one hour to load (I timed it, by the way. But, when I timed it again the next day, it came out longer. Basically, it varies.) and a regular quality (An average YouTube video) four minute video takes anywhere from ten minutes to an hour. The video’s appearance is in no way “bad”, it’s just the loading is hell.
The third one is a blue screen error. I can’t tell you much about this because… well, I don’t know much about it. It happens weekly and the error comes and goes so fast that I can’t read what it’s saying. When I first got it, Microsoft recommended me to download a Service Pack. I did and everything turned out fine. Well, until the next week when it came back again.
I’ll tell you about my laptop now. It’s a Dell Inspiron 1720, purchased by Amazon.com. It has 4.00 GB RAM and it’s a 32 bit operating system. I use Vista Home Premium and I have Service Pack 1 installed.
Now, for the additional information. (I think that I just like to type.)
I defragment my hard drive weekly and I scan my laptop with AVG (Free edition.) every two days. I scan my laptop with Ad-Aware (Also free.) every five days or so and I set my browser (Firefox.) to clear my private data and cookies every time I exit. I clean my laptop’s keyboard every two days because I am obsessive over clean laptops. My laptop have never overheated. I use a Logitech mouse instead of a touchpad because I have a fear of fingerprints. Yes.
If you have any questions, go ahead and ask. I’ll answer them in the additional information section. I should be here until ten AM EST anyway.Thank you for all of your answers thus far.
To commenter #1: Haha. Seeing that I just bought a laptop three months ago, I doubt I'm going to buy a Mac. Sorry. ^^;
To the rest~:
I'll be researching all of your answers and I'll try to do the best option. Thank you once again for taking the time to answer.
I have a few other things to say. My laptop just froze. But, not the horrendous can't-get-out-of-it freeze, just a regular ol'... laptop freeze. I think that's the first time it's done that on my laptop. I should record this.
Last, but not least (For now, anyway.): I'm running a scan on my AVG Anti-virus, even though I did it yesterday and this will totally throw me off track of that two-day thing. Nothing has showed up so far.

moreResolved Question: Synaptics touchpad error with new AC adapter?
I have this very strange problem. Ever since getting a replacement AC adapter for my laptop, the mouse has started going all crazy. If the adapter is unplugged, the mouse works perfectly fine, but the second I plug the adapter back in it goes crazy again. I've heard of this problem before but I'm unaware of any solutions. Any help would be much appreciated.
moreResolved Question: are all dell studio 15 laptops faulty?
i purchased a studio 1535 it had faulty touchpad, error messages, fingerprint reader etc so it was replaced.
new one was a 1537 but eject button stayed on and media keys wouldn't work, cd/dvd rom tried to eject all the time and errors flashing. had to fight to get replacement even after 3 engineers failed to solve anything, in fact they broke motherboard and replaced it but things became worse. thought 3rd time lucky but nope new one same eject problem but cd/dvd does not work at all and on/off sound media key won't work either.
do not want to spend more days on phone which costs me a fortune and time wasted for engineer visits. dell support is woeful. think i'm wasting my time with dell????? want to cry as it took me ages to decide and save for it.
moreVoting Question: i'm having issues with the touchpad on my laptop?
the software is synaptics
i opnened it and i disabled and re-enabled it, it doesn't work
somebody answered a previous question and told me its probably software rather than a hardware problem because theres no error message...but i can't think of any other reason why it would just stop working.
i mean i might've spilled water on it or something...would that even affect it?
i do have a wireless mouse, but the sensor and charger thingy is kind of big so it's annoying to carry around, and honestly i'd really just like my touchpad to work again.
i was so used to it and then it stopped working and i randomly try it to see if it works...and nothing.
help?
any ideas?
moreResolved Question: Laptop mouse -- possible to turn off touchpad click?
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP Pro. I am often accidentally hitting the touch pad with my thumb, which is bad because I type for a living. It is causing errors and wasted time having fix things and then return to the right place in the document. Is it possible to turn off the click function, so that the touch pad can only be used to scroll and move the pointer, and the actual buttons have to be pushed to act as a click? I tried looking through the control panel-mouse options, but I couldn't find anything that looked like the correct setting. Can you tell me which setting under the control panel? I'm not sure what it will be called. After searching some other sites, I discovered that there is supposed to be a touchpad tab on the mouse properties. Only, mine does not have that. I tried updating the driver, but it said I have the latest version. So now what? There is no touchpad controls under either control panel-mouse or system-hardware devices.
moreResolved Question: Samsung Q45 Laptop (2.2ghz dual core)?
Hi, Has anyone else experienced the problem of the mouse pointer freezing on the screen for approx 5 seconds every so often or of it jumping around erratically at times. I have recently set up 3 brand new q45's and the problem is on all three. No extra software added, no virus etc - just straight out of sealed boxes. Also tried turning off aero pointers, re-istalling from recovery disks, updating touchpad drivers, using external usb mouse etc - nothing has worked. Also, no processor spike or any errors in the logs are apparent when the pointer freezes. It simply starts working again after a few seconds. If anyone else has had this problem please let me know as I am currently in contact with Samsung. Up to now I know of 4 laptops this is happening on.
moreResolved Question: How do I adjust my touchpad settings?
I want to adjust my touchpad settings on my laptop. I've done it before but it somehow reverted back to the old settings, so I'm trying to do it again but every time I click on mouse settings it comes up with an error that says "unable to connect to the synaptics pointing device center." what does it mean and why can't I access my touchpad settings anymore? Is there another way I can fix it.
moreVoting Question: Two Problems: my computer says my 40GB HD is 10GB, and I think I accidentally restored my laptop's OS on my PC
So this morning I found my old restore disks, and I ran them. When it was about to be finished, it said that there wre too many errors to continue, etc. So I figured I used the wrong restore disk. But the disks said on them "to be distributed with a compaq PC only."
So then I got another disk, and restored the OS. It works fine, except for the text gets randomly darker and lighter from right to left, and my computer thinks it's a laptop! It has a "running on AC power" in the tray, and had software for a touchpad. Also, my 40GB HD, when right-clicked on, says that it has 10GB capacity. What do I do?Okay, video problems are solved, I installed the drivers for my video card. But still my computer thinks its a laptop. That's the thing, I can't find the restore disk - my data is already backed up, I was trying to restore it and was using the wrong disks. can I download and burn the image of the restore disks and use that? is there anywhere i can get this iso?
moreResolved Question: Dell Guys where are you?? Dell Laptop Fan and Verizon built in minicard.?
I am hoping that who ever does answer this is hopefully a Dell guy or Verizon guy.. Ok some quick laptop history. Last month a Dell guy came to replace the motherboard, fan and touchpad. Pretty much everything in it. Well the motherboard was Dead on Arrival. I mean he said it was and he was only able to get the laptop running for 3 seconds then it would shutdown. So here comes Dell guy number 2. He puts in a new motherboard and still the issue pops up. First the fan would get loud then quiet then loud then a error message then shutdown. This would happen once it reached the wallpaper. Now it lets it run longer but then I also can't get my Dell Mobile Broadband Card Utility to connect to VZACCESS. Says error 913. Called verizon. The guy said he couldn't fix it and that Dell might have to replace the built in mini card. What do I do? I spent a hour with verizon and 2 1/2 hours with dell on the phone and I hate them both for not helping me. what now? new fan failed test last time done.oh and i did driver updates and all already for it. Do you think I might need a new built in minicard?

moreResolved Question: Blank screen/system freezes?
The power in my room yesterday went out while my laptop was on and because the battery wasn't in since it's not holding a charge, it was shut down along with everything else. When I turned it back on, I only got a blank screen but all the usual booting up noises. After some trial and error, I got it boot up properly but then it would freeze and become non responsive.
And it doesn't matter if I boot up in safe mode, debugging or last known good settings, this still happens.
I was running chkdsk and fell asleep so when I woke up this morning I was greeted with a blank screen and nothing I did (touching the touchpad/keyboard) did a thing. If it's helpful, the wireless button stays lit even when I press it to turn off.
I hope someone out there can help me as I really need my laptop!

I have a laptop, that my son plugs my wireless mouse into to play games. Normally, I just unplug the wireless thingie (technical term) from the USB port, and my touchpad mouse on the laptop works fine.
Not anymore. It is 100% unresponsive. I have tried to unplug the wireless one, and restarting the laptop, hoping it would jog its memory or something, and no go. I have checked the settings for the mouse, and it shows both of them listed, and both active w/no errors.
I would love some ideas to fix this! I am sure that it is something mindlessly easy and I am just a dork for not getting it lolETA- I have an Acer also, with a Synaptics touchpad. I did check to see if it was enabled, and it is.
Thanks for the suggestions so far!
