Resolved Question: Recently earned my CCNA...What should my next step be?

Hello everyone, Well, I have just passed my CCNA and I am excited and ready to look for a job that utilizes my new certification and knowledge of networking! I have been applying to some positions but I haven't seen much in the places I've been looking. Any suggestions as to what I can do to land an entry level job in networking? Landing a job in networking is an immediate goal of mine but I am already looking to the future and considering what my next move should be. Does anyone have any ideas/thoughts/recommendations about what a next solid step might be in this career path? I was planning on applying to MBA programs asap as I would like to have a business degree and hopefully couple that with more technical certifications (ie. CCNP...etc). Resolved Question: Why are there no USB over power line adapters?

There are various Ethernet over power line adapters like from Netgear, D-Link, Linksys which provide a good alternative to ethernet cable or wi-fi connections, utilizing the existing home power lines and outlets for home networking. Now I had a problem where I wanted to connect a USB device to a remote PC in the same way. I was excited to read that according this link the technology is ready for use, yet no OEM seems having put it into practice in any of their products for the home end user. I have an amazing idea for a website, it's going to be a networking type thing, but I don't want to give out all he details because I don't want my idea being copied. Anyway, so I really want to do this and I've had this idea for a few months now but the farthest I've gone is going on godaddy.com and buying a domain. I had an interview today with interface talent network. i really liked the woman i spoke with and left feeling very excited about the propects of modeling. i knew i was going to have to buy pictures, as this necessary at all places. when i got home i did some research and found that many people think this is a "SCAM" i want to know the truth. are these people just mad becuase they didnt know about the money they would need to spend prior to the interview? or is this company really just great salesmen? i know they have an 80% sucess rate, this must come from somewhere. i would really like to hear some good reviews from people who have experience with them, or reviews from people who did invest and it did not work out. more

Resolved Question: Trying to become a Voice Actor?

Hello, =) Lemme just give you a little background information so you can see where I am coming from. Ever since I was young I have always liked entertaining people, especially trying to make people laugh. When I was younger I was one of the star roles in a 5th grade play. That was probably the most fun I ever had in elementary school, I loved playing someone else, it was sort of like escaping reality and becoming enticed in another one's affairs. About 2 years later I was another star role in a 7th grade play. I was one of the "comic relief" roles, which was perfect for me. In my childhood days I used to watch this animated television show on Cartoon Network called "Teen Titans." I loved this show, it was very different from any other show. I didn't realize until I was older, but the reason why I loved this show so much, is because of the great voice acting and the general theme and style that the show possessed. The show stopped airing in 2006, and I thought that that was the last time I would ever see that show. It crushed me, it was like losing a friend in a way; because I watched that show from the start until the end, which, I believe, was 4 years. However, just recently the show started airing re-runs again. Even now as I am older, this excited me. I began watching it, and the same good memories that I obtained before starting rushing back. Something was different this time though. I started to get feelings such as, "Man, I really want to do that" and "I wish I could be a voice actor." My favorite character on the series, "Beast Boy" was voiced by a man named, Greg Cipes. I never really paid attention to who was actually voicing the character when I was younger, I always thought that they were "voicing themselves" in a way, I saw the characters as people, rather than animations. Now, however, I paid more attention to who the voices of the characters were and Greg Cipes really stuck out. He has really been a major influence to me, and he has really made me want to "follow in his footsteps." That was about 7 months ago and my mind still has not changed. Everyday I still dream of becoming a star-role voice actor, but I don't know how to achieve my ultimate dream and goal. In terms of support, I have none. No one believes in me, and my mother even goes as far to say that I won't be able to do it. This really brings me down, because in my opinion, everyone needs at least someone there for them, someone that they can trust and love and know that whatever choice they make, they have someone there that tells them they can do it. My other problem is I am currently living in Arizona, and the major talent agencies are located in big-time towns such as Los Angeles and New York. Being only 17 years old, I don't have much choice in the location in which I live, and I don't have near the amount of money needed to rent even a small apartment in either city. I plan to go to college when I graduate from high school in May (yay =)). I was wondering if I should major in something that will help me with this goal of mine. I was considering Drama, but I am asking for an opinion first before I decide. I know that if I am going to get anywhere, first I will have to start from rock-bottom. What exactly would "rock-bottom" for voice acting be? Commercials? Children or Short-story recordings? I am not sure where to even start. However, doing a little research and some sneak-peaks at talent agency's websites, some of them require you to be at least 18 years old. Do you think it would be better for me to wait until I am 18 (in April) before I start up anything, just to stay focused on my school work until graduation? I know I may have a few more questions, but these are the main ones that I am wondering about. I am very sorry about this lengthy "story-question" that I have provided for you, I really got carried away, haha. =) Even if you cannot provide an answer to the questions I have provided, it would be much appreciated just to hear your opinion on the matter. Resolved Question: Would A Global Boxing Network Save Boxing & Bring It Back Into The Mainstream?

Imagine a global boxing network. There's a half a billion boxing fans worldwide (I made that figure up). If we all paid 1 additional dollar each month on our cable/satellite bill & we got to see all the top fighters worldwide, boxing would become mainstream again right? There would still be plenty of money for Floyd Mayweather & Manny Pacquiao to split a 60-80 million dollar purse (the best & most popular P4P deserve to get paid more). Global rules, mandatory fights, the best get to showcase their talents. All Boxers would get paid much more money & the fans would be able to enjoy consistent top matches between the best talent worldwide. Maybe even a weight division playoff at the end of every year. It would give us someone to root for & against. That would have me excited to watch boxing. Your thoughts? more

Resolved Question: Is it a bad idea to move away?

Ok... Ive recently separated from my partner. (My choice) Its a little up and down but for the most part i think we can get along well for the kids. My problem is, I want to move away, not to get away from my partner or anything like that, just purely cos i have always wanted to live in a beach town, Im currently in a small country town, and it doesn't have a lot to offer at all. It feels like an isolated bubble. I feel i will have more opportunities if i move. My ex doesn't have a problem with the idea. And is happy to work together so he can still see the kids. I guess my main problem is my family are all here... and you generally move towards a support network not away from one. I will have a few people close by but not in the same town. It will b roughly 6 hours away from where i am now. but only 1 hour away from my closest friends. Im currently 4 hours away from my closest friends. But yeah my main source of family is here. My oldest son (8) is happy to move and is quite excited. I just dont want to do the wrong thing and take my son's away from the people we know. Most people i know say just do it... u know wont know until u try... and its not like we all cant visit. and u will meet new people. ect... They say there is no point in staying if you wont b happy here. If im not happy then my kids will feel it. What do u all guys think? Of course these decisions rnt made lightly... i have done alot of thinking on this.. and its not something i will make just on internet comments.... but its nice to get an idea of what people think... non biased opinions. more

I'm 36 and I'm fit/ muscular and I have been told I look good for my age, especially compared to my peers. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not conceited or anything. The problem is a couple of months ago an ex stumbled across my social network page and we have been talking. At first i thought t was cool to talk to someone in the past but i was getting hints that she might want to be with me so i stopped going on my page so much. Well she ended up calling me on my cell and we chatted a bit and then it turned sexual. I have been single for a long time now, so I decided to try online dating. About 4 weeks ago, a guy emailed me that should have made me delete him straight away! His profile pic was terrible, and just didn't sound like a great catch - but there was something about his message I quite liked so really had the urge to email him back. straight away we became friends on a social networking site and started chatting for hours every night for a week. There wasn't really any talk of romance, just flirty fun and chat about everyday life. Anyway, after a week, we met up (in a public area, im very cautious!) and I was really worried I wouldn't like him as much in real life as I did online. I needn't have worried, we hit it off straight away. After a few hours in the pub (sober, he was driving) we just sat in his car chatting and laughing for a further 6 hours! he drove me home and we shared a quick kiss but he was a perfect gent and didn't ask for more. That was nearly 2 weeks ago and we haven't been able to meet up since due to other commitments, but we have spoken every night, either online, by text, or on the phone - and are finally meeting up again on saturday! Voting Question: As an expectant mother, who should you include on your invite list for a baby shower being thrown for you?

I am having my first baby (very excited!!) in May and my sister-in-law (she is also a close friend of mine) has asked to throw me a shower and a family friend has also asked to throw me a seperate shower (one of the showers is being held in the city I used to live in and the other is being held in the city I currently live in) -- both have asked me for an invitation list and I am wondering what is the proper etiquette on who to invite? For example... -- My fiance is the baby of 13 so he has A LOT of relatives, he is close with most of them but since I don't see them often I am not very close with a majority of them, so I am wondering who I should invite from his family? Keep in mind, there are no family conflicts and I know his family would get along great with my family so it isnt about that at all. -- Should I invite my fiance's friend's wives? While I am not best friends with any of them, when we hang out with them I have a great time and we stay in touch through facebook. I should note that for one of the showers, we have decided to let husband's/boyfriend's come because my brother is going to take all of them (including my fiance) out while the girls have the shower so if I do invite his friend's wives, I would also be inviting his friends. -- As for my own friends...I know a large network of people but I am horrible about keeping in touch with all of them, I am wondering which friends I should invite? Should I just invite friends I see on a regular basis or also extend the invite to friends I don't see that often? Resolved Question: My computer only runs in "Safe Mode", how can I fix it?(long)?

I have a Vista HP laptop, a couple weeks ago the "blue screen of death" started up but the computer was still working ok. I forget what exactly happened but I think it crashed(or froze) last week and I had to shut it down with the power button, when I started it back up I picked start in normal mode and it was just a black screen and after about 30 minutes I shut it down again and started it up in safe mode with networking. I went on to FB and asked some of my computer smart friends for help. Someone said to do a system restore and then do a disk defrag, so I did the system restore from a check point a week before, it seemed to be going fine but then it went back to the black screen. After a hour of looking at the black screen I restarted the computer and tried the restore again and left for town. When I got home the computer looked normal, so I tried to use it and it was going so slow I couldn't even restart or shut it down right, so I started it up in safe mode again. Pretty much every day I try to do at least one system restore and it just goes to the black screen or it's super slow after ward. Yesterday I did a system restore and it started up normal, was working fine and even said "System restore successful", so I was super excited and thought "I'll try to do a defrag now" as soon as I clicked on it... black screen, I let it sit and sit, and nothing happened, so I just shut it down. Now I just use Safe Mode all the time. I would take it to the computer place in town but when I took it in this spring for a "clean up" and to install and new anti-virus, it took them over 2 days and it cost $200 and two days later it started acting up and then froze. I was so mad and my husband said we weren't going to take it back there again. Does anyone have and tips to help me fix my computer or what else I should do?I originally paid $1500CDN for this computer less then 3 years ago. I bought it at Future Shop in the city (almost 2 hours away) and don't remember what kind of warranty I have on it. more

Today I bought Fall out 3 game of the year, I had previously played Fall out 3 twice before and was not disappointed. I was also excited to finally to BEAT not just play the 40 hour campaign, and ALL of the expansions and not have to pick up each one at a time from the PS3 network. However I found that I couldn't load my save file. I waited about 5 minutes for it to load, then quit and then tried creating a new game, it took about 3 min. Loading the game takes FOREVER and often times in certain areas in the game, everything gets extremely buggy. (Early in the game, when the blinding light flashes your kid self several times the game freezes for about 2 min). I have two questions, One, Is Fallout 3 game of the year for the PS3 supposed to be glitchy? And if it is, is it worth returning to get another copy that may have even more/worse glitches and bugs? I am curious. My wife and I are wanting to home school. We originally thought figured it would be my wife, the obvious choice. But she is really not excited about it, but really wants the home school path for our children. She has gotten so worried about it, she is freaking out about the prospect of leaving work to be a stay-at-home mom. So now we are thinking that I will ditch my job which is a critical decision because I am the one with all the degrees and advanced education. I am really into research. I love to teach, love to talk, love to explore, and very patient. So my wife really wants me to be the teacher, and stay-at-home daddy. My wife make about half that I make, but makes nearly twice as much as most, so not a bad salary by far. She has the best health care benefits. I am feeling that we can afford it. My boyfriend and I have been together two years. His mom recently stayed with us for the last month (she left on Sunday). Since she first came to visit, my bf has behaving strangely. He ended up telling me a few days ago that it's because his mom told him to marry me. He says he doesn't feel ready, and that now, all he can think about is how he's "supposed to get married or stop wasting your time." I AM NOT pressuring him at all to get married, but he said, "it's been two years. It's now or never." Why can't he just try to be happy with what we have? Why is it all or nothing? (He says that it's because he's older and needs to get married and have children soon). Since then, he's gone into a depression spiral. He currently takes antidepressants (and has been for 10 years now), and has seasonal affect disorder. It's been really dark where we live all the time, and he feels depressed. I asked if they offered any job shadows and she said they do not however she could probably set up some meetings with employees there. Hey you guys i don't know what to do. My older sister who i love, who i'm really close to is stealing my ideas to help her career progress. Me and my sister are both writers and she also works in the arts. Recently i was attacked by my best friend who suffered from schizophrenia, i was really broken up by it, and i chose to put that as a theme in my novel. I told my sister about it. Soon enough my sister gives me this spiel about having writers block 'even though she's completed her whole novel' saying that it's been really hard for her to come up with any ideas. She came up with another idea, and the more excited me and my brother got about it, she finally comes up with this monologue to me and then tells me she's come up with the idea to write about schizophrenia. She said it was because her boyfriend has it, and she's always wanted to write about it. Conveniently she picks the time i'm writing about it to write about it. The other idea she had has now been conveniently pushed to the back burner. I thought let it go. So i changed my idea from Schizophrenia to multiple personality disorder. I made a big contact recently for my photography the woman who supplies vintage clothing to models like naomi Campbell, and Kate moss i got really excited and told my sister and i told her my idea was to try and pull off warped fairytales. My sister had an arts production brief to submit to a potential client and she told him 'twisted' fairytales. This is pissing me off. I don't know what to say to her. Or wether i should just leave it. When i was younger i really looked up to her, she used to have great ideas and sometimes i would accidentally pick up on them. She'd tell me off, one time she went bitching to my little brother about how i 'copy' her and everytime she's complained i take them back and apologise. I complain, she justifies herself, does them anyway and starts kissing up to me after she's done them. This gets me because for years she'd make me feel bad calling me overcompetitive, hiding what she was on on the computer, calling me an opportunist. She's a hypocrite. How do i get past this. I love my sister she's always been there for me when i was sick, but the difference is she's got the networks right now to make my ideas happen for her, but i think she's threatened by the fact that i've got the personality and an incredibly lucky streak. I had the flu last week, and it was very strange. I am 14 and i was vomiting, so i wanted to sleep in the living room, with my mom down there, too. there is a digital clock on the cable box, and i remeber just watching tv, and dozing off, like i did i few times while i was sick. my mom was laying on the couch, (it was dark out) and this was before the dream, and the tv was on. I was on the floor on an air matress. i dozed off like i did the whole day just about, and woke up in a dream, to a show i used to love to watch..... its called the secret lfe of... on food network. my mom loved to cook, so it was somthing that taught us somthing and we both enjoyed it. it has been off air for three years, and i was excited it was back on for replay. i commented on this to my mom, saying the host has the same last name as us,me and my mom had conversations, i watched the whole episode on tv, and it was strage, but i believed it. before i dozed off again, i looked at the clock. it was 9:00. i fell asleep and opened my eyes and looked at the digital clock, it said 6:30! i was very comfused. i asked my mom, and told her everything, and well, i never saw the episode about pizza... i youtubed it and found it was just like my dream!!! lol this happened the next two days, with different shows. lol i wanted to know if like thats normal or somthing...having real lifelike dreams with conversations while being sick... thanks!!! more

After a year in the field I don't really feel that I fit in. I think that I am more of an artistic/creative person and should at least try to discover my potential but don't know how. Don't get me wrong, I am a very geeky person but I cannot bring myself to like or get excited about Microsoft atest server exchange or how much of an improvment the next iteration of oracle is... I am more drawn to web stuff, I like php, css, doodling in photoshop and illustrator that has passed of the last year. Resolved Question: Which super-smartphone to buy (iPhone 3GS not available)?

Hello everyone. I have decided to buy myself a super-smartphone. The problem is, I live in India. The iPhone 3GS is not available (legally) in India. It is not even launched here. What I need, in order of priority: Web browsing on the move, solid build quality, reliable OS, Facebook, Exchange email, a few games. Now considering the 3GS is not available in India, here are my options. Please suggest the next best one. 1. iPhone 3G: This is an outdated phone, and available only with Airtel. It is NOT a subsidized price like in other countries. The 8GB is close to Rs.30000 (USD $650). Airtel does not have 3G network, so I will be stuck with EDGE browsing. I may be wrong, but I think the 8GB iPhone 3G is too expensive at $650, especially as it will be locked to Airtel. Also, there is virtually no Apple support here, so I am not sure what will happen if the battery dies out. 2. iPhone 3GS from US, unlocked and jailbroken. That will set me off by around $550 to $600, but I will have the best phone in the world. On the flip side, it will be illegal, and if the battery dies out, it will just become a brick. Somehow I am not excited about paying such a huge amount to do something illegal. But I guess it is an option, in a sense. 3. HTC Hero: Costs Rs.30000 ($650) with no carrier lock. I read a lot of reviews and watched YouTube videos about this one. While almost everything I hear about it is positive, people do report that it is sluggish at times. I am tempted to buy this, but not sure how reliable the HTC hardware is. HTC too has hardly any support in India, so I need reliable hardware and good build quality. I am tempted to just go for the Hero, but thinking, is the iPhone 3G still better than the Hero? I know it has only 128MB RAM vs the Hero's 288 MB, but I guess there are a lot of factors other than that. Please provide your suggestions. Note: 1. Motorola Droid, Palm Pre, Droid Eris are not available in India. 2. The myTouch is available, but it costs almost as much as the Hero, it is locked to Airtel and they are selling it without the Market app. I am not interested in rooting my phone etc. 3. I am not interested in Windows Mobile, as I already have a Herald and the experience with it has been infuriating. 4. I know 2010 will see many new phones, but they will take a year or years to reach India. So I figure it makes sense to buy the best phone available now, and then upgrade later maybe after 2 or 3 years.Hi Rahul! I would like to add two updates from my end: 1) Univercell is offering Samsung Galaxy at Rs.15000 which is a steal. If you google, people compare this with Magic (myTouch) and it gets good reviews too. But Univercell says they are out of stock. One option is to call Univercell everyday and closely track, get friendly with a Univercell employee and buy it. 2) The second option (99% I will go for this) is iPhone 3G from Airtel. They are offering 500mb free per month for 1 yr. I would suggest dont go for Tatoo. Resistive screen is not a good experience. Besides, after comparing a lot it seems that nothing in Android comes close to the user experience iPhone offers. Last factor is iPhone's resale value in India. Next year I can still sell the iPhone 3G for 60-70% of the price I pay now, and get the latest one if I want. So right now I am thinking iPhone 3G thru Airtel may be a good option. Only thing is to kill closed apps using task killer and it shd be as fast as the 3GS.I forgot to add: Today my HTC Herald's speaker died. I mean people can hear my voice but I cannot hear them. HTC's support here is very much comparable to Apple's support i.e zilch. Last month the touchscreen broke, and I've been running around in circles trying to get support but the problem is that the employees in official "support centers" are really multi-brand service centres, and they are not really familiar with HTC. They are more familiar with Nokia and SE. As a result I have been using the Herald without its touchscreen (it has a keyboard). This is also making me think. Another colleague of mine bought HTC Touch, and his mic had to be replaced (he 'drop it or anything). While I LOVE Android, this is making me re-think about Hero. Also, tomorrow if I decide to change my mind, I will get next to nothing when I try to sell my Hero next yr. I am just thinking aloud here Let me know your suggestions! more

Resolved Question: ipod touch help PLEASE! im so frustrated!?

i got an ipod touch for christmas, and i was really excited! It says i have a working wifi network, but when i put in the password for the app store, it says, cannot connect, invalid arguement! i just really want it to work! Does anyone have an idea of what to do! i took it back to where i got it, and they told me to do something, i did it, it didnt work!! please help more

Voting Question: Hurt, upset, and confused by husband's actions...what should I do?

In a nutshell here is the deal. I have been married a year and my husband is currently deployed but will be home very soon. We are both head strong temperamental people. When we dusagree or argue things get heated. I am able to control myself but he always ends up yelling, screaming, cussing and blaming me. He has even driven off a few times and used to hang up on me all the time. His temper has gotten better over the deployment and he tries very hard to control himself. Problem is I know tjhings will go back to how they were and it literally scares me when he cusses and screams at me, especially because of the fact we have a baby. Just thinking about how mean he can be to me and how overbearing he is makes me sick. Also, I caught him talking to one other woman online and looking at sexy pics of her about two months ago. He stopped and gave me the passwords to his email and social networking sites and apologized. I'm excited about his homecoming but at the same time I'm upset, confused, hurt and unsure of things...advice please. more
