Dish Network Antenna Questions asked
Resolved Question: Electronics Engineer? How can I catch signals on my Dish Antenna?
A mobile phone company in Saudi Arabia has installed their Network Antennas/Boosters on different buildings in Riyadh city. This has disturbed signals of some T.V. channels. When I try to adjust my Dish Antenna, signals start appearing and disappearing. I can not get signals more than 2% to3% and these do not stay constant. Is there any solution to this problem? moreVoting Question: I need help wish Dish Network Sattilite TV?
ok so is there such a think as Wireless dish network? my parents have a dish reciever thing in their bedroom and they have it setup for 2 tvs. the one in the bedroom and one in family room. i was wondering about wireless tv because im going to get a different tv in my room for gaming and tv. im going to get a hdtv antenna so i can get local channels for free and i want to hook up dish network to the tv im putting in my room but my parents didnt put the thing in the wall where u plug it in because i was 4 when we moved in this house and im now 14. would we like have to get another reciever box thing for wireless tv becuase my parents wont let me put a wall plugin thing in there because they would have to tear up the wall and do wireing in it and all that stuff.i was thinking about it and if there was a thing as wireless tv where i can just plug in a little antenna into my tv and it goes to a reciever box somewhere else in the house because if that was possible i would just pay my parents to get another box and the antenna to plug into the tv. moreResolved Question: Are there any good alternative DVR devices to TiVo, for over-the-air (antenna) television?
We have Dish Network right now, and plan to cancel our subscription. However, we love the DVR, and would like to have something similar for OTA television. What else is out there besides TiVo? moreVoting Question: Why can't I get Dish Network local channels despite living 35 miles from a major city?
I've never gotten a good answer in 10 years why I still don't "qualify" for local channels over Dish despite living very close to a major city in a bordering state. I thought the whole idea of satellite TV was it didn't matter where you live. I guess it does. I use an antenna to get locals now, but reception often fades for some stations, and switching back and forth between the two is tiresome. Any idea(other than politics) of why I can't get locals despite living so close to a major city?Dish's map of locals claim they serve 93/97% of the country. http://www.dishnetwork.com/packages/local/default.aspx I happen to live just outside Pittsburgh in Ohio, so I'm out of luck. I find this silly because if you live hundreds of miles from Pittsburgh in PA, you'll still get locals from them. I think it may have to do with our county's politics though, as they believe they are "protecting" their cable market ! moreResolved Question: How can I integrate a tv antenna with my Dish Network service to get local channels?

I had dish network, but I canceled my subscription because I couldn't afford it any longer. I have a 1080p SONY bravia tv and it's HD built in. I know there are antennas out there that if I put them on, I can get most of the local channels for free, but I don't know which ones are good. I have a friend that has an antenna and a similar tv and it looks so good, that it looks like he has satellite. He's on a long 1 month vacation so I can't ask him cause he's out of the country, that's why I depend on you guys. I've been told that since I can get a few channels on my TV (like three in HD) that it is in fact a DTV receiver, but I'd need a booster. I just set up an extra TV & bought the converter & inside antenna but I'm not getting Channel 2 (WBBM Chicago) to come in. I live in a south suburb of Chicago. There are no obstructions anywhere around. Do they just have a weak signal or did I buy a lousy antenna? I paid enough for it & it is a brand name. Is there a chance that to make this little TV work in a bedroom that I'm going to have to get an outside antenna? Hi, im moving out of state for 3 months, and i'm renting an apartment. I am Dish network user but since im only going for 3 months then i dont need to subscribe again cause its a waste of money. Im only going to be there for 3 months. Now i heard about that FTA system Sonicview, It a free to air channel receiver. What i would like to know is, does this system work on an Antenna or a satellite Dish? So do i plug in to the receiver into the cable outlet and it works, or do i have to get a satellite dish installed first? I think the cable outlet is connected to the antenna. Plz Help ASAP thank you so much for your time moreResolved Question: Dish Network Dish with Directv Receiver?
I am planning to install a TV at my tailgate this year and am looking for some technical help. I have Directv at my house, so I am planning on taking a normal receiver (no DVR or HD, it's about 2 years old) from a spare room out to tailgate. I was able to salvage a dish network dish from a job site (dish network 500). The antenna part is a dp plus digital LNBF. It has 2 "heads" that say 110 and 119. All i am looking to get is the major networks and espn (maybe big ten network if possible). Will I be able to combine these two pieces of equipment and get it to work? moreResolved Question: Can I get a second satellite & receiver to use at my cabin from my current account?
Our cabin is located in a more "remote" area and since the digital switch, we cannot use our antenna for television. Getting a separate cable or satellite subscription is too expensive, since we're only there a few times a month. What I would like to do is get a second receiver from Dish Network (who I have at home), then buy another satellite dish, and install it at my cabin instead. My thought is that I can get satellite tv for just the additional $6.00 per month (or whatever it is) instead of getting a whole new account. Does anyone know if this is possible or any other suggestions? moreResolved Question: what kind of antenna is good for me, a parabolic antenna or a satellite/TV dish?
hi i want to make ad hoc/peer to peer network between two computers which are approximately 0.85 mile (1.36765 KM) away from each other. For this purpose i need additional antenna to boost or extend my range/coverage. so my question is that which kind of antenna should i use, a parabolic antenna or a satellite/TV dish?? please dont tell me to reject this plan as i asked and studied about this, and it is possible!!!!!! if you think it is impossible then visit the link below: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-range_Wi-Fi#Notable_links moreResolved Question: How do I get local channels without cable, dish, satellite, etc.?
I have a fairly new tv that we have only used dish network with. I am looking to cut costs for awhile by having no cable, dish, satellite, etc. But now that everything is digital and I have heard of everyone needing those digital converter boxes I am not sure how I will be able to get local channels without the above. Do I need a digital converter on a HDTV? Or just an antenna, or both? Or neither? How do I get my local channels? Thank you so much for any help. moreResolved Question: how do you set up a TV to get a couple of free basic channels with Antenna?
I really have no clue whats going on since this converter box bs, but here is my situation. I just got a new apartment with my gf and I really could care less about purchasing cable through directTV or Dish network or anything. Really all I am hoping for is maybe like a news channel and some other random crap, mostly just so if nasty storms pick up my GF can check to see what the word is. What all do I need for this? I'm totally lost, and googling it really did nothing for me, because its all just people looking to get free HDTV. Any help would be awesome, thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: Dish Network or Cable. Why?
Do you have Dish Network or any other service that has an outside antenna? What are the benefits or problems of getting your own antenna? moreResolved Question: How can you take an Digital TV antenna?
I have a dish from dish network and also from directv but i don't have their service anymore, do you guys think i can use that as any sort of antenna to watch may be even few channels? moreResolved Question: How do I get a satellite signal AND local digital on one TV when both need a FR coax cable?
I just got an HD tv for the master bedroom. We're unable to get locals through Dish Network (they said the satellite wouldn't pick them up where they would have to mount it on the house), so we have to flip over to standard antenna to pick up locals. On our living room tv, it's no big deal to do this cause the rabbit ears plug into the "Antenna" RF connection and we're able to plug S-Video directly from the satellite box to the tv. However, in the master bedroom, it's a little more complicated, cause the Dish Network has to plug in via RF Coax, and so does the Antenna. Currently I have the Dish running through the VCR/DVD and plugging into the tv via RCA cables, but it's a pain having to use multiple remotes to switch inputs, control the Dish, etc, plus we end up leaving the VCR on by accident all the time now. Any ideas on how to get both signals in without the VCR method or spending more than like $20 to do it?Cable Guy---I thought about some kind of switcher, but wasn't sure where to get one. You know where I could pick one up (website links would especially help)? Stephan----I believe it's the standard definition Duo 322. But you make it sound as though I could just connect it to the TV directly...remember that the TV is in a whole other room, so direct connections are not an option. Or am I misunderstanding you? moreResolved Question: Who can answer my questions about Dish Network?
Lately, I've been extremely annoyed with Dish network. i've been using this cable program for many years. Occasionally, I've had some problems that I could resolve through their help hotlines and such. but today, i spent 3-4 hours trying to solve a problem that in the end didn't leave me much wiser. i'll explain Earlier today, i was watching my TV 2 for dish network. It was working fine. i was getting what i wanted to see. later this afternoon, i installed the digital converter box on my TV 1. after installing that, i go back to tv 2 to watch dish network and i find myself stuck on channel 101 (dish info crap). i try to change channel and other actions, but the remote does nothing. tv 1 works fine. i call the dish network guys (4 of them) and after futile attempts to fix the problem of not getting anything for tv 2, they all concluded that the remote for tv 2 was broken. we tried all the different, standard fixing procedures and made no success. annoyed, i kept trying to do what i could. but, in the end, i realized that it was really the remote for tv 2 that was simply broken. it was just simply broken (not because of it falling, breaking, batteries, etc). dish is sending me a new tv 2 remote in 3 days. i have a few crucial questions to ask meanwhile. 1.) How can I guarantee that this new tv 2 remote won't be a dud? This is the 3rd time I've recieved a tv 2 remote for this dish network. both have simply been bad. how can i make sure this new remote i recive will never go bad and do whatever i want it to do? 2.) I'm sure that for people using dish, you know of the antennae line that has the red flag on the line sticking out. the other end is this drill with a thin small point, meant to be plugged in. thing is though, i tried long and hard to plug it in, but no success at all. i don't know which hole to plug the antennae line red flag in though. i know it says "antennae in" hole, but i still can't make it fit. any ways to help me with this? That's all i have to ask for now. i'll add more if i have more questions. i appreciate good legit answers and good info websites moreResolved Question: Dish Network Dish 500 Fringe Area?
I live in a mountainous area, and I get a marginal signal on my dish 500 system. I get about 34 on 110 and about 40 on 119. Compounding the problem is the antenna is 130 feet from the receiver to get a shot at the bird away from the trees. I have two problems: First, the slightest weather problem, even a light rain knocks the signal out. Second, the smallest nudge of the dish not even 1/16 of an inch is the diffference in signal and no signal. (This may be normal, I don't know). Can you think of anything that will help, a bigger dish, an amplifier, etc.? The two dudes that came out here from Dish wont touch it cause their lil plastic protractor says it won't work at all, but It has worked for 7 years. I think if I could squeeze a lil more signal out of it it would be OK. What do you think? Thanks! moreResolved Question: can someone explain this to me in 3 paragraph please thanx?
Satellite A satellite is basically any object that revolves around a planet in a circular or elliptical path. The moon is Earth's original, natural satellite, and there are many manmade (artificial) satellites, usually closer to Earth. The term "satellite" is typically used to describe a useful object placed in orbit purposely to perform some specific mission or task. The Soviet Sputnik satellite was the first to orbit Earth, launched on October 4, 1957 Because of Soviet government secrecy at the time, no photographs were taken of this famous launch. Sputnik was a 23-inch (58-cm), 184-pound (83-kg) metal ball. A satellite is a specialized wireless receiver/transmitter that is lunched by a rocket and placed in orbit around the earth. Modern satellite can receive and re-transmit thousands of signals simultaneously. Transmission through the satellite is much more like transmission through microwave, in microwave information are transmit through the microwave dish antenna where as in satellites transmission, information are transmit through the satellite 500 to 22300 miles in space. Geostationary orbits A satellite in a geostationary orbit appears to be in a fixed position to an earth-based observer. A geostationary satellite revolves around the earth at a constant speed once per day over the equator. The geostationary orbit is useful for communications applications because ground based antennae, which must be directed toward the satellite, can operate effectively without the need for expensive equipment to track the satellite’s motion. Especially for applications that require a large number of ground antennae (such as direct TV distribution), the savings in ground equipment can more than justify the extra cost and onboard complexity of lifting a satellite into the relatively high geostationary orbit. Low-Earth-orbiting satellites Low earth orbiting satellites are less expensive to position in space than geostationary satellites and, because of their closer proximity to the ground, require lower signal strength. So there is a trade off between the number of satellites and their cost. Or moon is the term for a body in orbit around a planet. As long as our own Moon was the only moon known, there was no need for a general term for the moons of planets. But when Galileo discovered the four main moons of the planet Jupiter, Johannes Kepler wrote Galileo a letter suggesting he call them “satellites” (from the Latin satellites, which means attendant). The word means the same thing as “moon.” • An object that revolves around a planet. • An earth-orbiting device used for receiving and transmitting signals. Each satellite has a number of transponders which receive the signal and bounce it back to earth, where it is received by any of the dish-shaped earth stations, then transmitted via cable, phone lines, or microwave to its final receiver TV set. Satellite communication is also covered in Wireless communication but less applicable under this category because it not only operates over very long distances but their frequency ranges differ widely as well. With the help of wireless networks, it is possible now to send and receive data and stay connected at all times even during travel. Wireless communication is changing the look of data communication for ever and it is going at a high pace. Advantages and Disadvantages of Satellite The advantages of satellite include the following: •Access to remote areas •Coverage of large geographical areas •Insensitivity to topology •Distance-insensitive costs •High bandwidth The disadvantages of satellite include the following: •High initial cost •Propagation delay with GEO systems •Environmental interference problems •Licensing requirements •Regulatory constraints in some regions •Danger posed by space debris, solar flare activity, and meteor showers moreResolved Question: Satellite antenna INSIDE the apartment?

So Dish has never offered local programming in HD in my area, I just pick it up over the air with an antenna. Now in my guide it says "local channels in HD now available in your area!". But I can't find them in the guide and when I call Dish Network and try to explain that I get local HD through the antenna but not through the Dish they don't understand what I'm talking about. The local HD signal I get through the air is decent, but it still cuts in and out occasionally, I want it from Dish! Anyone else had this problem? moreResolved Question: Panasonic Viera, problems with Dish Network channel installation?
I just got a 32' panasonic viera, and I installed it as said. But I can't get my satellite tv to work. I don't have a box or anything, just the cable that comes out my wall. It worked fine with my old tv, by just connecting it but when I did it on my new tv, it's not working. It says to either choose Antenna or Cable, I picked cable, then antenna, and nothing shows up when I select auto programming. Does anyone know what I can do? moreResolved Question: Best indoor TV antenna?
Need advice for reception for best type of indoor TV with HD converter box. I live in a condo and cannot set up an outdoor antenna. Do not subscribe to cable or Dish network. My grandfather is a farmer and lives a hard life. All his life the only tv he has watched is the evening news and weather. After the analog to digital conversion my grandfather stopped recieving the only channel he recieved (CBS). So i bought him a DTV box and a brand new outdoor antenna and had a professional install them. Well after 2 weeks of working the channels just stopped coming. I called the guy who installed them and he said he would take a look. After taking a look he told us that there was nothing wrong with the connections but the channel just stopped broadcasting to that area. So for 4 months he has had no evening news. i have dish network and would like to know if it is possible to add a room to my plan. And than connect a dish and reciever at his house. then put in the transponder codes and finally out in the dish card. And make his the extra room im paying for. I'm thinking of giving up tv, but for now i'm not ready to go cold turkey. instead, i just plan to cancel my dish network and go with whatever stations i can get for free. do you know if i can actually get any stations for free without an antenna, or something else? i have an old Zenith, it works fine but is about 13 years old. i live just outside a major metropolitan US city. moreResolved Question: Approximate range of digital TV signal?
I've always gotten my "local" channels (by local, I mean from Indianapolis, which is about 70 miles away) with my cable package, but for a variety of reasons I've decided to dump them and switch to satellite. The problem is, Dish Network and DirectTV both tell me that they cannot provide any local channels and I'd have to install an antenna to continue receiving them. I know an analog signal can go 70 miles without a problem, but I've heard that digital signals have a shorter range. There is a CBS affiliate here in town, but I'd prefer to be able to get all of the major networks from Indianapolis like I have been doing. Sticking with cable is not an option- please don't suggest it. Will I be able to pick up a digital signal after the switch, or am I out of luck? moreVoting Question: Need ideas for boosting wifi Antenna-area reception.?
I'm using a rebranded generic Realtek wifi adaptor (b/g) on a private home network. We have a strong signal where my primary computer is sitting; but the reception strength is all over the board. With no one else around and no movement at all, it averages around 55% strength. However I've seen it spike, again alone with no movement, as high as 98% and as low as 2%, before returning to the 50s. Since other devices pick up the signal in almost or at the same space, as high as 100% I know the signal is good. Problem is with my computer it will dump the "wireless internet connection" at 12% (local only) and cause me to have to disconnect and reconnect to reestablish internet access. I'd like to find a way to boost the ANTENNA's ability to receive the signal; much like wrapping tinfoil around an internal TV antenna. So far I've tried both tin and aluminium foil, around the receiver and the entire adaptor, as well as a brass shield behind it. All to no major benefit. I've also tried placing it dead centre of a small satellite dish which boosted strength up the high 60s average but still was sporadic. I figure, but may be wrong, there's a drift in the signal near or at the area the receiving computer is located, and simply need to concentrate the signal. Any other ideas, including the strange but possible ones. moreResolved Question: Are local channels supposed to be free?

we would like to end our cable bill and go HD at the same time. We are close enough to chicago to receive nice HD reception (I have seen it on neighbors sets). Is their any dummy-proof way to piggyback on the preexisting wiring and make the transition a snap. moreResolved Question: Directv or Dish Network?
Because I live in the mountains I cannot get cable so I'm stuck narrowing down my two solutions. Directv or Dish Network. I'm currious which company gives more bang for your buck. I like sports (especially football and auto racing), I also love HD, and I do enjoy HBO. And not to mention local programing (I do live off an antenna). However a problem in the past I have had is tree cover that can't be solved by cutting trees (these redwoods are big enough to make a small house). Directv told me its possible I could go over the treeline if I make a 10 foot pole and place a satellite over it. Being lazy and asking around, i've heard Dish Network's satellite in the sky is higher, meaning a steeper angle for the ground dish in turn meaning no 10 foot pole. Any pointers to whom I should choose and why? moreResolved Question: Digital Tv Antenna - what do I need?

I live in a condo complex and cannot install an outside antenna and I am happy to receive only the regular TV channels as always. I have connected a HDTV converter box in anticipation of the change to digital. The instruction sheet says a HDTV antenna may be necessary for improved reception when all channels go digital. "Old timers" say wrapping aluminum foil around the indoor TV antenna dipoles will enhance TV reception. Has anyone had experience doing this or advice recommending something else to bring in or improve distant TV signals. I live in a suburban area and sometimes TV reception is fuzzy on 3 of the 6 channels. moreTop Dish Network Antenna Links
