Dish Network High Speed Internet Questions asked

Open Question: Does Magic Jack work with Dish Network High Speed Internet?

I was planning on getting Dish Network's High Speed Internet and Magic Jack together, and I was wondering if that was possible, and if It can, do I need a airport deal? more

Resolved Question: Does Dish Network require internet for OnDemand to work?

I'm trying to help my Mom, who has Dish. I know a lot about cable and TVs, but have never had a satellite service. Her receiver is hooked-up to telephone, but not the high-speed internet (She has DSL). She can't get OnDemand movies. Is the internet required for OnDemand to work? The menu works, but it never starts the movie. more

Resolved Question: I need some advise, I only need high speed internet and possibly a tv service.....?

My 2 year contract is up on Dec. 10th. I have been paying a local service for a land line, basic dish network and high speed internet service, I am paying $135 a month. Could I get the internet service through dish or direct without a land line? How much does it cost? Can an internet provider provide internet without a phone line if I decide having the tv is to much? Any help would be appreciated, I do not know much about electronics. If it matters I do have two routers right now ( one linskys and one arris) because my kids have the wii and laptops. more

Voting Question: Apt complex requires additional renter's insurance for satellite dish?

Me and my girlfriend are moving into an apartment next month, and we're very excited about it, except for one thing - Television/internet services. The apartments are serviced by Ygnition, who buy a block from Dish Network and then resell it. The "basic cable" package is nothing but local channels and costs $20, their "High Speed Internet" is $50/month. So I looked into it, and Dish Network will service our apt directly, but I have a thing in my rental lease that I'm required to have $25k renter's insurance and put an additional $150 deposit down to put a satellite dish on the balcony. Our budget is very tight (1500/mo). I was reading the FCC's ban against monopolies in apt complexes/etc, and this to me seems like it's illegal/unscrupulous. Can anyone help clarify this issue for me? more

Resolved Question: Satellite Internet and Phone for Northern VT?

I live in Northern Vermont where cable/dsl is unavailable. I'm looking into high speed internet through satellite, but I'd like to get a package where phone is included. Verizon FiOS seems to be exactly what I'm looking for, but it's not offered in my area. Does anyone know if Dish Network offers a package like this? Or, if not, are there other providers in rural VT that do? more

Voting Question: How can I get High speed internet access?

Hello I live in a rural region, though its not THAT rural. I want Broadband internet.I currently have dial-up with at&t. I pay 30 bucks for an Additional phone line and 20 bucks for dial up. Options that are eliminated: DSL-A road less than 150 yards has it but I cannot and probably never will. Cable- Cable does not run up this road at all. Satellite always on the internet and I like to play online games cant deal with a daily FAP CAP.Cant afford it anyway.plus commitments. Data connect-Terms of use would eliminate the best things about the internet on a PC. 60 bucks a month if you want tethering. No 3G here. I did some scouting with my laptop and I've come down to trying to access the peoples open wireless internet that live less than 1/2 a mile from me.I've built a cantenna, purchased one of the most powerful network adapters you can get (500mw) and tried to mount it to a dish but there are too many trees.Im going to try a bi-quad feed into the dish next, then a 24dbi gird parabolic and if that dosent work im going to go insane. There was one I picked up close by with just the cantenna but it was secured with WEP. I'm so desperate, im thinking of just cracking it. All i want is the crappiest DSL and i would be happy....sheesh. Any tips, or suggestions would please??Nah they wont run the line a meer 300ft so that i can get it. 2 junctions, one 300ft away, the other, less than 1/8 of a mile from me have a DSL line.I've been calling every once in a while for about 2 years now.On at&t's website they wont even let you send in the form to let me know when i can get it.There is no send button once you fill out the info. I'll never get it because they'd rather you get wildblue.ITs criminal.I have to pay a outrageous installation fee, sign a contract, and pay 60 bucks a month for something better and cheaper that practically my neighbors are getting. more

Resolved Question: Can you connect two cables into one cable wall jack?

Okay, here's the situation. The Comcast man is coming out to my house Sunday to install high-speed internet. I would like to know if it is possible to have a dish network Tv cable (I have the 2 TVs, 1 receiver option on my Dish Network plan, and the upstairs TV is connected to the cable wall jack upstairs), and the cable used for my internet from Comcast. Now, I have never use Comcast before, but I believe your internet comes through the cable jacks in your house right? I also know that I have to connect it to a modem. But again, is this possible? I have to have a cable upstairs, because that is where my Mac is. The only problem is, there is only one cable wall jack upstairs. more

Resolved Question: Is My Internet Connection Fast Enough?

I am thinking about upgrading from my horrible 56kbps dial-up connection to Charter cable/high-speed internet. We currently have Dish network and they only offer satellite internet and we don't want to pay the dish set-up fee plus the high monthly payments. We want to downgrade to Charter cable and get their high-speed internet. This would require us to get rid of our DVR's and most likely have to purchase a couple of Tivo boxes in order to remain up to date on our shows. However, I was worried that their 3Mbps internet speed wasn't fast enough for the home network I have in mind. I have about 4 computers that I would like to set-up on a wireless network and my question is, Do you think that the 3Mbps download and 256Kbps upload is going to be enough? My brother does minor gaming (runescape) and I download music, myspace, e-mail, etc. My father does the basics (bank account stuff and pay bills). Your answers/comments would be awesome. Thanks more

Voting Question: Is there a company that offers cell phone service, high speed internet, and Television?

I've been looking for a while now and I haven't been able to find what I need. My family has decided that it would be better for everyone to have cell phones instead of one house. Right now I have home phone, high speed internet, and dish network TV through Embarq. I'm trying to find some similar in price to what I'm paying right now. more

Resolved Question: What's better Cable or DSL Bundle for internet/tv/phone applications?

In my area the only 2 choices for high speed internet are Comcast Cable or AT&T DSL. AT&T offers Dish Network for tv and regular land lines for phone. Comcast offers cable for high speed internet, cable for tv and cable for phone. Which route is better, why and how do they compare on price. Your help is appreciated. more

Resolved Question: If you live on the Westside of LA what internet service do you use?

We have Verizon Online and it SUCKS. We have the highest-speed they offer, but it's sooooo unreliable. I've had to call tech support six times in the past month and my dad also called. Right now I'm using my neighbor's signal cause ours isn't working and I have to upload a ton of stuff and I'm frustrated. Anyway, okay, sorry, I'm ranting. I'd just be super grateful for suggestions for other providers. We have the Dish Network and Verizon for the landline and DSL and live in Brentwood. Idk if it matters where you live for DSL,but since it does for cable, that's why I'm asking about the Westside and letting you know. Anyway, suggestions are appreciated! How much do you pay for the service? I wanna know all this before I get my dad to swtich. THANKS : )Thank you both! : ) more

Voting Question: Time Warner, Verizon FIOS, Direct TV, Dish Network? Which one should I subscribe to?

Hey everyone. I've always signed up with Time Warner cable, and I hate it but I never really knew the alternatives. I currently live in West Los Angeles, and I'm coming to the end of the three month promotion period for my cable TV and I still have three months left on the cable. I'm pretty satisfied with the internet connection, but I really don't like the TV service. Time Warner just seems very expensive for what they offer. I don't have any premium channels and I just subscribe to the basic internet and pretty soon I'll be paying $100/month. Can any of you tech heads offer advice on what I should do? I just need basic cable-esque channels (like food network, bravo, etc) and the big HD channels (FOX, ABC, etc) along with high speed internet service. I would be willing to sign up for a local phone line (currently I have no home phone, only cell) and DSL if I felt that the TV service merited it. Looking to balance low cost with reliable service and avoid the wretched customer service at Time Warner. Thanks for all your help! more

Voting Question: Anyone have Dish Network High Speed Internet?

I am thinking about getting Dish Network High Speed Internet because I cannot get High Speed internet in my area (except Satellite). I was wondering if it works well with Wii online play. (Like if it lags or not). All I would be doing on the Wii would be playing Animal Crossing (using Wii Speak), maybe playing Guitar Hero, and using the Wii Shop Channel). Thanks!I already have Dish Network TV Service. more

Resolved Question: What are the best cable/satellite TV and high speed internet providers in Pasadena, CA?

Hello everyone. I'm moving to Pasadena, CA (91101) from the Midwest toward the end of this month. In the Midwest, we have Charter for Internet and though the actual speed is great, the customer service and reliability has been an issue. We have Charter for regular cable TV as well, but we want to make the switch to HD service. How's satellite service (Dish Network or Direct TV) in the area? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Could someone here tell me their experiences with Charter cable?

I'm thinking on bundling my internet and cable together through Charter communications. Dish Network etc. isn't an option because satellites aren't allowed at my complex. I could care less about the number of channels I get. I'm more interested in the internet services. So could you tell me some, or all, of the following? 1. What have the prices been like, with taxes and fees? 2. How was your service? 3. Would you recommend them, or do you have other options (My phone company can't provide high speed internet to the area)? more

Resolved Question: T.V service and High Speed Internet?

1. Which T.V company should I choose (Time Warner, DirecTV, Dish Network, etc) 2. Why should I select that T.V company? 3. Do they offer High Def channels like "HBO in HD and ABC in HD"? 4. How much do it cost per month? 5. Can I a DVR and a upgrade too. I need help selecting High Speed Internet Service. I want it to go super fast like the superhero Flash (DC Comics) 1. Who should I get it from? 2. How much do that company cost you said in question number one 3. How fast is it? more

Resolved Question: Playstation Network Question?

Alright, now I realize that Playstation Network is all broadband/highspeed internet access, right? O.o Anyways, from what everyone says, it's all DSL and Cable and whatever is higher than that, correct? Well, I have Satellite internet through Dish Network. It's high speed, probably a bit faster than Cable, really...but the point is, I can't play Socom online with it because it has a slight, maybe one-two second delay. Will the Playstation Network let me connect with a connection like this? Or am I doomed to a lack of online play for the next...eh, 14-15 months while the contract wears off?I have a monthly limit of 13 gigs, so it's not -that- bad...but uhh... I realize what you guys are saying, though I'd kind of like to see if anyone will give me a straight out answer. ^__^ Thanks.Well, I mean...monthly download limit of 13 gigs...and I think upload of...6-9 gigs? I forget. more

Resolved Question: Distant networking, high-speed internet, antenna/dish?

I am moving to an area where the only option for high-speed internet is via satellite. For a regular gamer, satellite internet just doesn't cut it for obvious reasons. High-speed DSL or cable is only a little ways up the road, but they've made no advances or notions to extend it anytime soon. So I'm looking at ways I might be able to extend it from there to me. Option 1: Is it possible to use 2 satellite dishes, pointing at each other, as a way of networking two computers/networks together? This would certainly cut down on transmission time when compared to normal "satellite internet", ultimately lowering latency to a reasonable level. Example image= http://img206.imageshack.us/my.php?image=satel2.jpg Option 2: Similar to WISP (wireless internet), using 2 or more high-end antenna's, could I network two computers/networks together? Example image=http://img299.imageshack.us/my.php?image=antua6.jpg Thankyou!Sorry, second image link was cut short. http://img299.imageshack.us/my.php?image=antua6.jpg Of course either of these would be possible, so I guess the real question is would it give a reasonable latency? Any and all info welcome; equipment, hardware and software, any and all! Thankyou! How to do it would also be great! more

Resolved Question: Internet in rural area?

I just bought a laptop and am trying to find an internet service provider that will work in our area. Resolved Question: Question about Road Runner self-installation.?

So I'm ordering Road Runner high speed internet, and they basically said that the earliest they could send someone to hook it up would be on January 14th. I'm a little impatient and don't want to wait that long, so I want to do the self-installation. I currently have Dish Network and don't have Time Warner hooked up. The availability test says that my area is servicably by Time Warner. What are the steps involved with self-installing this? Where do I connect everything? Would i need to have Cable in order to self-install it? Thank you in advance for your answers! :DJust to clarify what someone just answered, I definitely need someone to come by? Is there any way that I can have them come by earlier? 15 days is a ridiculous wait just for someone to connect something to that cable box thing outside my garage... more

Resolved Question: Which do you recommend of the following: Direct TV, Dish Network, or Comcast Digital Cable and why?

Do you know which one offers the best packages? I don't have HDTV so that doesn't really matter. I'm not interested in the sports packages but I am interested if you know if any of them give you free movie stations for a while. I currently have regular Comcast cable along with their high speed internet. Oh, I don't have kids so I'm not really interested in any kid packages like all the Nick and Disney stations. Thanks for any info.! Oh, I almost forgot! What is TVO and DVR (I noticed some of them give them to you as part of the deal) and are they complicated? Which of the two is easier to use? And just to give you info. on what I do like to watch I like all the movie stations (except movies from before the 70's), Animal Planet, Comedy Central, E!, Discovery, A&E, VH1, Court TV, TLC, the "N" ( Degrassi addict), Lifetime, and a few others. more

Resolved Question: Violating Consumer Rights?

The apartment complex I live in (Illinois) has some weird things going on that I suspect are borderline illegal. Residents have only one option for TV, internet and phone. We can only use Dish network for TV, AT&T for phone service and some weirdo unknown company for high speed internet. The internet sucks. In the complex, all the residents share 3 T1 lines and it's out more than it's on. Not to mention, the prices are outrageous. I tried calling Comcast but they're restricted from the area where I live. Is all this legal? Don't consumers (residents in this case), have a legal right to use whatever company they want for this kind of service instead of being forced to use a specific company? more
