Job Network Questions asked

Open Question: is Barack Obama the best thing to happen to the Republican Party since Jimmy Carter?

1. Polls show that since the 2008 election, America is moving to the right. According to Gallup, 40% of Americans identified themselves as conservatives in 2009, a 3% increase from 2008. That number will likely increase as Barack Obama's job approval ratings continue to fall. Independents are flocking to the Republican Party, as shown in the recent elections in New Jersey, Virginia, and Massachusetts. 2. FOX News Channel had its best year ever in 2009. According to Nielsen, the 10 most-watched cable news shows in 2009 were all FOX News programs. With shows like "The O'Reilly Factor," "Hannity," and "Glenn Beck" leading the way, every single show on the network saw a double-digit increase in ratings from 2008 in the 25-54 demographic. more

Open Question: This is just too weird... someone explain this please?

About a year ago my best friend got setup for arranged match with NRI. I had known my friend for about 5 years and eventually fell in love with her; but she would never accept my advances. However, she would not accept advances from anyone. She never had boyfriend or serious relations with anyone... also never wanted to be married. Then suddenly she goes for arranged match with NRI, they get engaged in less than a week. married shortly afterwards. She hide engagement from me and other close friends. When I find she engaged, I tell her I want to marry and if she goes thru and marry NRI... then I don't want to be with her, no "just friends"... me or him. Well... She went for NRI guy. It was painful for me; but I didn't talk or see her anymore. Wanted nothing to do with her. Her choice -- her life. She never expained why she go for NRI. I am different community; and think that might be it. I have better job/income than NRI guy. (he has VISA but BAAAD job) The day after she reject, she contact me to find out "how am I doing?"... but she hadn't changed her mind... stll NRI guy. How do u think I'm doing... u reject me! Then few months after wedding she calls me -- wants to know how am I doing? I try to be nice; but don't answer her questons. Tell her what I said before, u went for NRI not me. go away. I thought that was it... then again now 4 months since last call; she call again. This time... she starts reading me some philosophy she found on the web and then goes on about how she wasn't like my other friends... was something more. (yeah -- my other friends arent psychotic.) I again say, u went for NRI guy... and then she yells that I was never her boyfriend. She never had a boyfriend ever, so no idea what she is yelling about! And I always was clear, me or NRI guy. Does she have mental problem ? Is she going to bother me again? I have met nice girl since breakup last year; and am doing ok. I am not calling her, sending her mail, nothing... blocked her on social networks/IM. why is she still calling? what should I do if she call again with same crap? more

Resolved Question: Im in 7th grade and im entering a essay contest competing against other 7ths and some 8ths.?

Tell me your FIRST opinion of the first half of my essay. The Internet: Today’s revolution or tomorrow’s menace? Think about the Internet. Done? What did you come up with? Maybe you thought of the fact that even during an economic downpour people use the Internet to e-mail resumes to potential jobs. Or you might of thought of the thousand of websites and their seemingly endless amount of stored information. Plus the search engines that you can use to search the information with almost no trouble at all. Maybe, just maybe, you thought of the fact that the word of the year for 2009 was unfriend. Which means to delete someone as a friend on a social networking website such as facebook. People can send e-mail, post updates, and chat with lost friends or loving family members on one of the thousands of social networks dedicated to keeping people connected. You can post blogs to these websites to spread your opinion to the world. Students can use the Internet to research information for projects. Then they can see these grades even before the teacher shows you, so that you know if you need to work harder or re-do work. They can also use the Internet to look at potential colleges and to send the college applications. It’s also true that students use the internet for entertainment. (Which, in my opinion, is the only fault of the internet. It gives another reason for kids to sit around and do nothing.) more

Open Question: I don't know how to handle this....?

Ok , so now I want a genuine advice.I recently got a good IT job in a company but I wasn't given any training at all.My senior is on contract and comes 3 days a week (alternately). So pretty much I learnt the stuff myself , now when it comes to a company's network issue,I am naive, I dont know what the set-up is,how the system functions ( and frankly speaking I have no prev IT experience ) My senior is too busy with his own issues to assist me so if I take a little longer time to do some task ,I am blamed for not working ! I made my VP aware of that but seems he ignores that ,now he called me yesterday and said that he does not think he is getting the kind of responses he should get from an IT person ,I have to look after soooo many issues at the same time ,it seems the company's staff has been reshuffled due to administration mismanagement ,and lots of work is pending,I am under so much pressurenow...at first he decided to give me an LMO for work permit extension and when I filed it and went for signatures on additional documents ,he said he wont sign unless I show him the changes he wants to see...I dont know what to do...pls help me out....he expects me to know everything about the company even though I have been there just 15 days.......Exactly Leslie ,I agree with you , you summarized it correctly ,even my senior was complaining about VP ,we have so many issues that need to get resolved ,we have a very experienced staff and if they call for some tech problem, its not gonna be a small one, it must be serious...this is what he does not understand,my problem is I am on work permit and need an LMO approval,my WP expires in Feb ,How can I find a job which gets me the WP extension in such a short span ....this is my issue...I am bound.... more

Open Question: Why did most of my classmates become more successful than me?

I got a Bachelor's degree in computer science last year. Most of my classmates got high paying jobs before they graduated. But even though I got above average marks, I'm unemployed and clueless about what to do next. (I did find a temporary job but that's now over with). Why did I fail? I can try to answer that myself: 1. I have no passion in the field. I wanted to do something I was passionate about, but it didn't turn out that way. 2. I don't have a good idea of what kind of jobs I'm supposed to apply for, they all look intimidating and above me. 3. I have no social skills, or even ability to make facial expressions, etc. I also have low confidence so I fail at interviews. 4. I have no "network" to speak of. 5. I'm supposed to learn most of the technical stuff on my own, but I don't. So what do you think separates successful and failed graduates (and prospective employees?) What can I do to turn myself around? more

Open Question: What is your opinion about Obama giving speeches about health care again while not focusing on job creation?

I have just seen on media networks that Obama again is giving speeches about health care even though a clear signal was sent to dems with the loss of a senate seat. Is Obama as blind as a bat and does he not realize health care can wait but to focus on job creation? Citizens are suffering, losing homes, no work, high debt, and he thinks health care comes before job creation. I'm starting to think he is not even a decent president anymore because he is focusing only on health care. Provide your opinion about this scenario. more

Open Question: Why do people start discussions and post in work-related social media sites?

I'm referring to the social media sites that are primarily used for business networking. If you know this type of site, you probably know their names. I've looked at queries, thread starters, responders, etc., and I'm baffled how mediocre and downright dumb most questions and answers are. Questions like "How to I get a book published?" or "What should I say during an interview? These are things someone with no knowledge of the job world might ask. These social media purport to make connections. Connections to clueless people. On the other side of the equation are the experts/responders. Answers might be: be sure you have a plan when looking for a job. Or wear xyz on your interview. Are people answering to provide 'information' or are they just getting their name out there since they have titles like 'Business Consultant' or 'Media Content Developer' or other titles that to me seem like B.S. I don't see people in 'real professions' like 'molecular biology' or 'statistician'. Is that because people with true professions don't need to 'network' on these sites, but do so in speciality areas, like professional societies, and such. My g/f is a stem cell researcher, and the idea she'd be on a social media site and ask, "So anyone have suggestions on any new stem cell research techniques? is ludicrous. Bottom line, are these sites for people who really are looking for work and don't really have what we usually think of as profession? My experience is that asking people for their motivations is not a reliable way to find out. People lie. more

Open Question: Help....translation i don't know if it is correct?

is this translation from italian correct. can you tell me the parts to change. (sorry if it's long) Dear Rector, We wish to inform you about the activities and the objectives of our brand new association. Naples, the city where GRADg is located, constitutes today a crucial hub for Mediterranean and international migration flows, calling to mind, in a way, some aspects of New York in the last century, constituting a real “melting pot”, inhabited by different ethnic groups, cultures and customs. It is within this scenario that the GRADg project has been set up, on the initiative of graduate and undergraduate students of the Università degli studi di Napoli L’Orientale, one of the centres of academic excellence in Italy in the study of foreign languages. Most of the members of our association comes from this university, which also contains students from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, La Parthenope and Suor Orsola Benincasa. The GRADg constitutes as a youthful anti-unemployment search party, pursuing young recent graduate and undergraduate students whose goal is to enter the world of work. Through arrangements with universities from all over the world and, relying on the work of a large body of native speakers – as well as competent and qualified experts representing various continental and international languages – the GRADg intends to serve as a bridge between nations in achieving cultural, financial and commercial changes. It further purposes to set up arrangements between universities and companies for professional exchanges among young graduates from different countries, which will be fruitful for all parts involved. The association is constantly seeking new skills to be included in the circuit, and the University "L'Orientale" is an inexhaustible supply of young people who have achieved a high academic level. The structural and economic crisis – that according to many analysts is far from over – has created very high levels of new unemployment, while professionals have ceased altogether to exist. In this context, our goal is to create incentives and means to generate jobs through a network which connects businesses and institutions with experts in various fields. Then, the expansion beyond the borders – young people seem to have understood – represents the new frontier which will allow everybody to face this raging economic crisis, especially if it is addressed to the developing countries, or newly industrialized, along an idea of cooperation and collaboration which will be useful to both players of these exchanges. In fact, one of the most concrete and important purposes of the GRADg is precisely to provide support to companies which have interest in expanding abroad through the growth and outsourcing of the market, addressing mainly to areas that offer a very wide range of commercial possibilities and intend to be potentially one of the main actors of the world affairs of the next decades. Moreover, supporting the government entities which deal with the integration of the immigrants on the national territory is not secondary. The GRADg is anti-unemployment search, through open-minded projects, willingness to be open to new culture in a productive dynamic, promotion of opportunities of work, internships in repertory companies on the territory, development and expansion of activities abroad: our association offers all means (language skills, affability, sector-based and bureaucratic knowledge) as well as the necessary skills for a serene and correct integration between people while respecting the interests of all. Let’s summarize schematically all the goals that our association intends to pursue: 1- Provide, the education system of MESI, the possibility to train the students both Italy and other countries: activate, for each one of them, projects and concrete contacts. Let them study in other countries, developing a system for distance learning too, by using new technologies – videoconferences and other data transmission devices – in order to exchange information, applicable skills in the world of work, and by creating synergies between the different realities and their procedures. One of the main innovations is properly to use technology to make models of instant interaction, which will allow you to avoid practical, bureaucratic and economic problems, inherent in the geographical shift. 2- Propose – thanks to a deepen knowledge of the national territory – projects and internships to those interested in enlargement and development of their own skills, through a continuous process of updating that also involves cooperation with other institutional and private. 3- Capitalize the skills gained in the process of obtaining the qualification: it offers a continuous exchange of information and knowledge between experts of various countries, who have conducted a study path in the same field, to get the different methods and their limits, and then complement each other at last. 4- Ins more

Open Question: Does anyone know if rhapsody works better with the 3gs iPhone?

Ok so I've had the rhapsody app on my 8 gig iPhone 3g for about two months now. The first day I downloaded it and set up my credit card it worked amazingly with the 3g network I had no complaints whatsoever and I was fine paying the very steep 14.99 a month for the service. Fast forward to day two and the app was completely useless. It wasn't signing me in. It was freezing and it was just overall very frustrating. So I called real networks and was informed that the app has trouble running on the 3g network. The operator who so obviously got his job through outsourcing asurred me that RN was on the case but in the meantime it should run fine through wifi. And he was right the app is flawless when I'm on my home wifi network. But I didn't purchase this app to play at home I pursched it for my mobile device to be MOBILE! with my music. So my question to whoever reads this have you experinced the same problem with the 3gs? The iPhone 3g's hyperactive supercharged cracked out cousin. I'm due for an upgrade from AT&T and I'm debating wether I should get the 3gs or wait for the next gen iPhone which I'm hearing will be out possibly late spring early summer. I don't wanna give up on rhapsody I love it very much when it works but it's to damn pricy to be this unreliable. Thanks for reading guys more

Open Question: I feel like college is not rewarding...?

I went to a Tech College for 3 weeks before dropping out. They weren't "Tech" enough for me at the time as I was super computer advanced and the program wouldn't touch this stuff until the last semester. It was a 3d animation study I was already animating in 3-D when applying. Then I went to community college and got close to an associates degree in Web Development. I worked for Gannett newspaper group for a while but since being laid off I've found web development no longer exists. To make it worst; I hate computers now. Now.. I have been unemployed for almost 2 years. There are NO jobs. I feel like I am being forced by the universe to go back to college but I have dropped out several times in the past. I don't know if it's for me but I want to be successful. I have no career direction. I have no real interest besides doing something rewarding and challenging while making money. My past interests have been musical instruments, graphic design, photoshop, web development, computers, computer networking, motorcycles and performance vehicles. I have superior skills in many of these areas plus general office administration. I would make a great office manager, product manager, technology manager, or even just a grunt marketer yet I can't get a job. I feel like not having a degree is holding me back but I've dropped out 3 or more times from college. What should I do? P.S. I'm tired of rotting away after almost 2 whole years of being "laid off" and not working at all. Please. Help. Many people say they have these skills but very few have been hands on programming, advertisement design, and marketing for over 300 companies locally. Thanks for the sorry excuse for a comment. Excuses for myself? I wish that's what they were. This is my situation like it or not; and not at fault of my own. You don't have to be a dick about it. more

Open Question: I want to she something with all of you. What do you think of all this?

I have been having some strange dreams. One night, I dreampt I was being initiated into the Hell's Angels. Monday night, I was talking to a former Pegan Jimmy Di Lagorio and told him how much a legend those guys are. He seemed humble until I told him that one night after work on my way home thatI saw a Pegan biker in front of me at a stop light with enthusiasm. Jimmy did not take a liking to that. So in the dream world, where both gangs are rivals in reality, I don't think the PEgans like me to much. All my life, I am 28 now and live at home as I go to school and work part-time at ups(I know this fact is not acceptable to you females and that's cool. Having good standards never hurt anyone), I never had a grasp on my fate.It was always in someone else's hands. Sure I made some mistakes and got caught for little weed back when I was 18, but long had that expungedd. I am a reject. I'm not putting myself down nor am I trying to get pittyy here. I am just stating some facts. Well at 22, I joined the NAVY only to be released 6 months in because I spoke to a doctor when my father died when I was 10 and did not tell them at MEPS. So therefore, I am demeaned like a child molester for this. So I got sent back home and worked at a movie theatre. I started college again and went for computer networking. Knowing how the job market was always changing in that field, I switched gears to my other passion. Law Enforcement. Which was what my rate would have been in the service. I was stuck in a remedial hole with math for awhile until I got to my credited courses which is what took me SOo long. Now I am 39 credits towards my associates. Somehow though, with all the horrible things. My past. My luck. My father. Knowing that the woman I was attracted to last semester will never be mine. I feel a sense of uncertain and unstopable failure no matter how HARD I try to be better for me and society's standards of norms. Do these dreams tell me of somewhere I CAN be accepted into and have the luxurieslife suchesuch *** money, women, nice rides, adventure?? It seems as if something is telling me about myself and I translated it as, "Kevin! You tried to play by the rules. Dress nice. Act nice. Be polite and do the right things. Yet still, othersdid badidbad or worse things you could have ever done are moving on up in the world whether it be legitamite or ilegitamite ways. You tried to play nice.......but NO DICE!!!" more

Resolved Question: NFL Network Analyst vs ESPN NFL Analyst?

I love NFL Network Analyst. Majority of those guys not only hall of famers but they won titles and did something. Plus those guys speak as a professional and a person that plays the game and understand players. ESPN analyst are like robots, Love Bret Farve or lose your job. Hate T.O or lose your job. It seems like they got the same opinon. And the only one that is worth listen to is Steve Young, Cris Carter and Derek Brooks. Who ESPN got?. Merrill Hoge? Tim Hasselbeck? Mark Schlereth? Trent Dilfer? NFL Network got Deion, Irvin, Marshall, TD, Rod, Warren, Jerome Bettis, Sterling Shape. Thats why when it comes to football I goto NFL Network and listen to those guys more

Open Question: Need help with career choice. Please!?

I'm not far away from graduating with a degree in accounting/business. I'm becoming more and more aware that accounting is not what my passion is and in fact it drains me of my energy when I have to do anything related to my major/business networking. I'm particularly introverted so I am just wondering if anyone knew of jobs that are good for introverted people and might have some relation to an accounting degree. more

Open Question: Piers to American Idol and Conan to Americas Got Talent?

Alright, I just want opinions. So Simon is leaving Idol. Why not put Piers Morgan in his judging seat on American Idol. Piers has already judged singers for several years on AGT and BGT, and is partly responsible for the success of Susan Boyle. Due to American Idol's contract however, Piers would no longer be able to keep his Americas Got Talent Job on another network as it violates the Idol contract. So why not move Piers to Fox for Idol and fill the Americas Got Talent seat with Conan O'Brien who is looking for a place on TV and this way he won't need to leave NBC. Conan is a well established comedian and I think Americas Got Talent could use someone who is appreciative of the art of comedy. more

Resolved Question: Do all Democrats think of their constituents as pigs at the trough, or just Bill Clinton (see below)?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100119/ap_on_an/us_massachusetts_senate_health_care_analysis Former President Bill Clinton urged House Democrats last week to do a better job of telling voters how the legislation would help them, such as expanding coverage to the uninsured and establishing networks to offer more insurance options. "Put the corn where the hogs can get it," Clinton said, using a colorful phrase for making something clear and accessible, according to an aide who took notes at the speech. Mr. Clinton seems to be unaware of the fact that, unlike hogs, human beings can get their own corn. Are his fellow Democrats equally unaware?Nunya b, you make a good point. It's not a major thing, but it does illustrate the imperious nature of the liberal mindset.Kmuzu, thanks for your answer. I agree that his comment didn't come out the way he meant. I do think that he believes that most people need government to provide basic necessities, like health care. I also think that he believes that the elites need to decide for the masses which services are needed and which are provided. The elites decide whether the hogs need corn, what type of corn to use, where to put the corn, and how much corn each hog should get. All the hogs have to do is mindlessly belly up to the trough. The spotted ones may claim discrimination and get an extra handful from the elites, but in the end, it’s the elites that actually have the power over the corn. I wholeheartedly agree with you that we should question the government expanding their control over industries. But I also believe that includes the health care system. From an economic standpoint, it’s no different from any other industry. That means it can be seriously damaged by government control. more

Resolved Question: Leno Supporters, why do you say that Leno was forced out?

What do you think of this from http://www.therestrainingorder.com/?p=2250 Do you not remember these events? Exhibit a. Jay Walking Source, Entertainment Weekly. Sep 27, 2004: ”In 2009, I’ll be 59 years-old and will have had this dream job for 17 years,” Leno said in a statement. ”When I signed my new contract, I felt that the timing was right to plan for my successor, and there is no one more qualified than Conan. Plus, I promised [my wife] Mavis I would take her out for dinner before I turned 60.’” Jay Leno decides with his last contract that he will retire from his post at the Tonight Show and pass the mantle to Conan O’Brien. Unlike what you’ve read from Leno supporters, he was not forced. He was not canceled. He was not beaten up by NBC goons while he signed away his late night birth rite to Conan while Conan cackled in the distance. Unlike Jay Leno in 1992, Conan was selected on a 5 year plan to have a clear succession per Leno’s admitted desire to step down. Exhibit b. Leno May Switch to Fox Source, Newsmax.com March 4, 2007: According to the New York Post, the “Tonight Show” host is unhappy about NBC’s plans to replace him with Conan O’Brien in 2009. But Leno’s unhappiness may mean smiles all around Fox. Clearly, between 2004 and 2007, Jay Leno had a change of heart. Either the cost of buying thousands of shitty muscle cars was more than he thought it would be, or the idea of actually taking his wife Mavis to dinner was so unnerving that Jay Leno decided to use his ratings clout and Tonight Show seat to openly lobby other networks for a show. NBC was put on notice. Deal with Jay Leno because he wasn’t going to actually retire like he said, or else. He had made his intentions known. Exhibit c. Jay Leno Hints At ABC Future Source, Huffington Post. July 15, 2008: “…on Monday’s “Tonight Show,” Jay Leno hinted at a possible future with ABC while reading the popular segment, “Headlines.” Leno held up a TVWeek cover that said “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno…starring Jay Leno on ABC.” Then, Leno joked, “It’s like a headline from the future!” Less than a year before being ousted from the Tonight Show, per his arraignments, the stakes are raised. Of course, Leno knew full well NBC wouldn’t let him go. He had dug his claws in far too well with his over 20 years of conniving. Jay Leno might be an unfunny, humorless, watered down prick of a man, but no one has ever claimed he doesn’t know how to play the game. If he didn’t, David Letterman wouldn’t be at CBS right now. The rest is well known. NBC caved to Leno on the fear he’d take his huge chin and even larger stable of Hollywood guests that he’d sucked up to for years with him to a rival network. Instead of Leno knighting Conan with his black book for Hollywood’s elite, the same one Leno stole from Johnny Carson, Leno was going to take it to another network where the stars were soon to follow as they’d grown comfortable with Leno’s coddling of them, throwing them softballs, all these years. Enter The Jay Leno Show. NBC was terrified and so they cooked up a plan to allow themselves their chin-shaped cake, and eat it too. They decided to save some money, cut five scripted shows a week, and gave the hour to Jay Leno to pay his ransom. Everyone knew it was a terrible mistake. For the fourth place network, it was the death knell. By November 2009, less than 6 months after it debuted, the Jay Leno Show had ratings worse than two CW series. NBC, which used to air ER in Jay Leno’s time slot, was getting beat by the CW. Of course, the real loser in all of this was the NBC affiliates. Some were never on board with this plan from the beginning. Others felt “only the egos of NBC executives are keeping Leno on the air.” No one was sticking around to watch The Jay Leno show, much less the Late Local News, which is the bread and butter for local stations across the country. Jay Leno, and NBC’s lack of a backbone, was destroying local TV stations. In addition, without vaunted ratings winners like ER and Law and Order, shows which Jay Leno enjoyed as a lead in when he was hosting the Tonight Show, the Conan O’Brien lead Tonight Show was suffering as well. At this point, as the Jay Leno Show was circling the drains and affiliates were threatening to take matters into their own hands and just not air the show, Leno revealed his ultimate ploy, his desire to retain the Tonight Show and kick Conan to the curb. On November 2nd, 2009, he planted the seeds of deceit and asked for the Tonight Show back. Jay Leno opened up in a new interview about the survival of his new 10 p.m. talk show, saying that he would have rather have stayed in his 11:35 timeslot, and that he’d go back to the “Tonight” show if asked. Broadcasting and Cable interviewed the TV icon about the show, and critics who say that his show isn’t garnering high ratings. About whether he would return to “The Tonight Show,” which is now helmed by Conan O’Brien, more

Voting Question: I have a question about Asians and the success alot of them attain?

This is not meant to offend. I am just curious. Are there alot of Asians in the U.S. whether it be Chinese, Japanese, whatever that have alot of relatives in a particular city and they all help each other network and get jobs. I mean Asians are real tight nit right? Family members help them get there foot in the door. Also, is it normal for Asian parents to spoil there children buying them cars, and expensive jewelry? Do alot of Asians succeed because they have so many cousins and relatives and they all help each other out? more
