Network Address Translation Questions asked

Open Question: How would you draw this using Visio? Help Please?

You will be designing the new West County LAN for Busicorp. The details are as follows: • Thirty initial clients evenly spread between two subnets with planned growth to 30 or more in each. • Two subnets (192.168.21.0 and 192.168.22.0) connected to a 100-Mbps backbone (192.168.5.0). • Remote clients will connect through a VPN connection over the Internet. • A cable modem will provide Internet connectivity for client computers. • You want to deploy a WAP/router with one public-side connector for a second cable modem and four private-side connectors on LAN 192.168.21.0. It supports client network address translation and has a built-in firewall. The two backbones will be connected via a T1. However, you are not responsible for the wide area connection or any of its related hardware. That will be handled separately by a different design group. more

Voting Question: ipod touch "air video" application error.?

i get a air video application for my ipod touch. However, i get this for status: "Warning: Possible double NAT detected! Make sure that only one router on your network is doing Network Address Translation." Then i click test connection and get: "your air video server instance is accessible from internet". So actually could i stream it outside my local network or not? How could i make the status be "ok"? I am using a modem-router, not external router. I can stream video on my local network just fine. Thanks for any helpthe "air video" application itself is a converter that could stream and convert all my videos into format compatible with the ipod touch more

Resolved Question: Help....translation i don't know if it is correct?

is this translation from italian correct. can you tell me the parts to change. (sorry if it's long) Dear Rector, We wish to inform you about the activities and the objectives of our brand new association. Naples, the city where GRADg is located, constitutes today a crucial hub for Mediterranean and international migration flows, calling to mind, in a way, some aspects of New York in the last century, constituting a real “melting pot”, inhabited by different ethnic groups, cultures and customs. It is within this scenario that the GRADg project has been set up, on the initiative of graduate and undergraduate students of the Università degli studi di Napoli L’Orientale, one of the centres of academic excellence in Italy in the study of foreign languages. Most of the members of our association comes from this university, which also contains students from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, La Parthenope and Suor Orsola Benincasa. The GRADg constitutes as a youthful anti-unemployment search party, pursuing young recent graduate and undergraduate students whose goal is to enter the world of work. Through arrangements with universities from all over the world and, relying on the work of a large body of native speakers – as well as competent and qualified experts representing various continental and international languages – the GRADg intends to serve as a bridge between nations in achieving cultural, financial and commercial changes. It further purposes to set up arrangements between universities and companies for professional exchanges among young graduates from different countries, which will be fruitful for all parts involved. The association is constantly seeking new skills to be included in the circuit, and the University "L'Orientale" is an inexhaustible supply of young people who have achieved a high academic level. The structural and economic crisis – that according to many analysts is far from over – has created very high levels of new unemployment, while professionals have ceased altogether to exist. In this context, our goal is to create incentives and means to generate jobs through a network which connects businesses and institutions with experts in various fields. Then, the expansion beyond the borders – young people seem to have understood – represents the new frontier which will allow everybody to face this raging economic crisis, especially if it is addressed to the developing countries, or newly industrialized, along an idea of cooperation and collaboration which will be useful to both players of these exchanges. In fact, one of the most concrete and important purposes of the GRADg is precisely to provide support to companies which have interest in expanding abroad through the growth and outsourcing of the market, addressing mainly to areas that offer a very wide range of commercial possibilities and intend to be potentially one of the main actors of the world affairs of the next decades. Moreover, supporting the government entities which deal with the integration of the immigrants on the national territory is not secondary. The GRADg is anti-unemployment search, through open-minded projects, willingness to be open to new culture in a productive dynamic, promotion of opportunities of work, internships in repertory companies on the territory, development and expansion of activities abroad: our association offers all means (language skills, affability, sector-based and bureaucratic knowledge) as well as the necessary skills for a serene and correct integration between people while respecting the interests of all. Let’s summarize schematically all the goals that our association intends to pursue: 1- Provide, the education system of MESI, the possibility to train the students both Italy and other countries: activate, for each one of them, projects and concrete contacts. Let them study in other countries, developing a system for distance learning too, by using new technologies – videoconferences and other data transmission devices – in order to exchange information, applicable skills in the world of work, and by creating synergies between the different realities and their procedures. One of the main innovations is properly to use technology to make models of instant interaction, which will allow you to avoid practical, bureaucratic and economic problems, inherent in the geographical shift. 2- Propose – thanks to a deepen knowledge of the national territory – projects and internships to those interested in enlargement and development of their own skills, through a continuous process of updating that also involves cooperation with other institutional and private. 3- Capitalize the skills gained in the process of obtaining the qualification: it offers a continuous exchange of information and knowledge between experts of various countries, who have conducted a study path in the same field, to get the different methods and their limits, and then complement each other at last. 4- Ins more

Resolved Question: Cisco NAT Translation Configuration Help Needed?

I have a cisco router with IOS v12.4 I have a pool of outside addresses which are statically nat'd to internal addresses, such as: ip nat inside source static 10.0.10.188 200.200.200.188 ip nat inside source static 10.0.10.189 200.200.200.189 ip nat inside source static 10.0.10.190 200.200.200.190 I also have a few static entries for DNS to statically nat to another internal address such as: ip nat inside source static udp 10.0.1.20 53 200.200.200.188 53 extendable ip nat inside source static udp 10.0.1.20 53 200.200.200.189 53 extendable ip nat inside source static udp 10.0.1.20 53 200.200.200.190 53 extendable Presently I only have a few of the external DNS entries nat'd internally to the one machine however I would like to have all external port 53's on the 200.200.200.x network nat'd internally to 10.0.1.20. I'd like to do this without having to have 255 additional static nat entries for each of the port 53's. I believe that using a route-map and pools is the way to do it however I have not been able to come up with a working configuration. I need you to come up with a working configuration which will allow me to statically nat all UDP/53 ports on the external side to the single internal address w/o having 255 ip inside source static entries. more

I have Fifa, Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, Gears of War 2 amd Street Fighter which work fine for Xbox Live. However I bought the new COD: Modern Warfare 2 game and it doesn't. It says NAT Type Strict. Resolved Question: What is the difference between a Broadband router and an ADSL Router?

I can see a lot of 3rd party firmware for Broadband routers (with the ethernet WAN port) rather than for ADSL routers (with the ADSL port-RJ-11port). I would imagine that Broadband suports various broadband technologies and ADSL routers caters to just the ADSL protocol. Anything specific that i should know about the difference between the two? Resolved Question: PUBLIC IP ADDRESS CHARGE?

I recently assigned a public IP to a local network device on my router. It's a simple process thats available via my routers configuration page. Does anyone know if Tiscali will charge me for this? I didnt need to contact them or anything to do it and wasnt given any warning about a possible charge. its not my routers ip im changing, im gettin my router to assign a public IP to my laptop thats wireless to my router. this is what my router says in the option: Assign the public IP address of a connection to a LAN device This page allows you to assign the public IP address of your Internet Connection(s) to a specific device on your local network... You might want to do this if: * You encounter issues with some applications through the Network Address Translation engine of your Thomson Gateway. * This device is running server applications (web server, ...) and you want it to be accessible from the internet. * This device has to be considered as the unique entry to your local network (DMZ).the router assigns this IP by DHCP and when I search this IP it is still linked back to Tiscali so i guess they own this IP but its public not private more

Resolved Question: Network address translation NAT, what am i missing?

I am still missing something about NAT, as far as i can see NAT is what does the actual routing, how can you have a router wothout NAT, NAT allows data to be passed between 2 different subnets, which is what routing is, so as i said how can you possbly route without NAT. Or is my understanding of NAT wrong? For example you will read things like "buy a router with NAT" or, "this router comes with NAT !!" If it didn't have NAT it wouldn't be a router? more

I was looking at wireless routers that advertised NAT as a firewall feature (below). Resolved Question: Someone? How do i configure the listening port for bit comment!?

Resolved Question: How do I set my NAT settings from strict too open for XboxLive?

My NAT setting is currently set too strict and is a massive annoyance. Constantly I am kicked from a game because It says my NAT setting is "Too Strict". I know it means Network Address Translations, and is used to prevent problems with information being sent over a shared network. I know I have too do something with the administration pannel for my router and open some ports. HOW exactly do I get too the administration pannel? Also I am aware that I need a password too login too the administration pannel but where can I get my password? Please, it would also be great if you could list STEP BY STEP instrustions (I'm pretty much a nub with computers lol). I already have some instructions I got online but they aren't detailed enough. O I have a Netgear router by the way if that helps. more

Resolved Question: NAT (network address translation) question ???

hi...is the following correct : NAT : is the translation between local ip addresses and global ip addresses....it offer us to represent a set of local ip addresses as a public address which provides the way to save more space for allocating ip addresses... for example the router can send and receive info between a local ip address (like 10.0.0.x) and a global ip address through the use of network address translation. thanks more

Resolved Question: How to set up a NAT (Network Address Translation) for Bitcomet?

This is straight from the bitcomet website. 3. Yellow A yellow light means your client can reach other clients but other ones can not reach your client. Your can still download with BitComet in this case, but your speed can not be as high as in green light status. The most possible reason of a yellow light status is that your pc is in an intranet. So you have to configure a NAT (Network Address Translation) for BitComet listening port on your gateway. Another reason is the firewall used by your system or your ISPs system blocked this port. My router (wireless linksys) has no WEP protection on it, and my firewall was disable when setting it up and still is. So the solution must be the NAT. Can someone give me directions or a link to directions that a 16 year old could understand? I'm good with computers but not real good. If it helps anything my computer is connected by ethernet and not a wireless connection. Points to anyone that can help me out. more

Resolved Question: NAT problems with xbox live (Xbox 360)?

My xbox 360 is able to connect to live without any problems, however as my NAT (Network Address Translation) is set as Strict, I'm having problems playing games like GTA4 and PGR4 online. I think the problem is the way I've set up my connection, but this was the only way to get onto xbox live without buying extra equipment. I have the computer setup downstairs connected to the BTHomeHub through the Ethernet port. I have my wireless laptop upstairs, which is sharing the connection (using ICS Internet Connection Sharing) with the Xbox 360 through another Ethernet cable If anyone is using a simliar connection, please tell me if this connection works, I have opened up ports on the BThomehub and the firewall. but nothing works, as I still get the "Strict" message on the NAT connection. more

Resolved Question: Wireless dongle works fine, having trouble getting my ethernet card to work with the ADSLmodem?

Last year I finally got the net, Although I couldn't figure out why the ethernet card would communicate with the ADSLmodem as a result of turned to wireless. A couple of days ago I asked my school administrator about the problem and he said that if the wireless is working fine you should be able to connect directly to the modem with a cat5 and it should connect. It was great advice but didn't really help. I think I might have to configure some settings on either the computer of the modem. here are the modem's specs: name: DSL-G604T VPN support: PPTP/L2TP/IPSec pass-through Network Address/Port Translation (NAPT) Authentication: PAP and CHAP DoS (UPT/TCP), detection of known attacks SPI firewall protection Web login password authentication SNMP v.1,v.2c support with built-in MlB (RFC 1213) Syslog monitoring SNTP, DNS proxy and IGMP proxy IGMP Snooping with 32 Multicast groups 1 RJ-11 ADSL port 4 RJ-45 10/100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet LAN switch ports 802.11g wireless LAN more

There's something known as a "yellow light" which means that the listen port is blocked? what is the 'listen port' so i can unblock it? and HOW do i unblock it? This is exactly what it says when i click on the yellow light on the screen: "The most possible reason of a yellow light status is that your pc is in an intranet. So you have to configure a NAT (Network Address Translation) for BitComet listening port on your gateway. Another reason is the firewall used by your system or your ISPs system blocked this port". Anyone know what this means? thanks more
