Open Question: What is your opinion on this news item?
THIS IS USELESS CAMERA On any given day, 50 per cent of all traffic surveillance cameras Bangalore city don’t work It’s a shocker. Almost half of the 160 surveillance cameras installed at various junctions in the city to regulate traffic don’t work properly. This came to light on Thursday, when a traffic police constable attached to Adugodi traffic police station went to the Traffic Management Centre (TMC) from where these cameras are monitored. He was trying to get video evidence of a hit-and-run case that happened on February 26 at around 12.20 am near Koramangala BDA junction when a pedestrian was mowed down by a Swift. Unfortunately, the camera installed at that junction was not working on that day. * Nobody gets booked in hit-and-run cases partly because not all CCTV cameras are in working condition * Cops in the dark, as BSNL and camera manufacturer blame each other SERIOUS PROBLEM According to sources in the traffic police department, out of a total of 160 cameras installed, 83 were down due to one technical problem or the other on Thursday. On March 3, the number was 78 and it was 72 on March 2. On an average a third of the cameras are constantly down. “This is a very big problem for our department. Every day, almost 50 per cent of the cameras. Most of them don’t function properly due to problems with the cameras. Sometimes, the BSNL leased lines fail and sometimes it’s faulty power supply,” a senior traffic police officer said on condition of anonymity. It’s a moot point how, with such problems, the traffic police will be able to handle the Variable Messaging System (VMS) expected to come up soon at 20 junctions. MORE PROBLEMS In fact, cameras at five junctions have not been working for the last five to six months as miscreants had stolen the UPS boxes. Most of the time these cameras don’t work for days together. As it is, the cameras have their own limitations. Even if a traffic infringement is recorded, the camera can’t zoom in on the number plate of the vehicle. BLAME GAME Zaicom, the vendor of the cameras, tells another story. “All our cameras are in working condition. The real problem lies with BSNL leased lines. They have to finish the creation of Virtual Local Area Network (V-LAN) for the smooth functioning of these cameras. “Once they are done with this, we will have to change the IP address of our cameras,” Tavrez, a manager with Zaicom, said. Reacting to this, Bolgund, BSNL Divisional Engineer (Data), said, “Earlier, the entire system worked on a LAN. All installations such as cameras, signal lights and VMS boards were affected if something went wrong with one component. “To get rid of such nagging problems, we have started working on virtual LAN or V-LAN. Once it is in place, the malfunctioning of one component won’t affect the others. Not only BSNL, but all other service providers, including Zaicom should cooperate with us to address the issue as soon as possible.” COPS NOT WORRIED However, according to Praveen Sood, additional commissioner of police (traffic and security), the problem is not a big one. “We are working hard along with BSNL and other service providers to solve this problem. BSNL has already started converting LAN to V-LAN. With crores of rupees invested in the project, we will ensure that everything is in place,” Sood said. I am trying to do as much housecleaning as possible on my pc and remove as many unwanted programs as possible by going into control panel then remove programs...I was getting a lot done but then I got down into the "M's" and there are about 25 different entries or places one after another of programs titled "Microsoft .Net Framework" then there are sub headings that can be removed that are titled things like "winforms", "Dr. Watson", and many other names that mean nothing to me. What are these programs? There are 3 service packs and each one includes several sub programs under the heading of the different service packs...this is where that "Dr. Watson" one is located. I have tried to understand this question using google but it reads like greek to me. I cannot find a computer layman's terms answer for what are these for and can I remove any or most of them? I ESPECIALLY would like to know about this strange name of Microsoft .Net framework service pack program called "Dr. Watson"...what does it do...what is it for? in layman's terms please.....what will happen if I remove it? I am running Windows XP and I love it.. Thank you very much for your time as I have always gotten good information from Yahoo Answers and I enjoy this forum very much. "A world of info at my fingertips".. I have found that the Dr. Watson is a tool that gathers debugging information or something like that...Do I need it? Do I need all of these .Net Framework programs? I Googled Microsoft .Net Framework and got this answer; The Microsoft .NET Framework is a software framework that can be installed on computers running Microsoft Windows operating systems. It includes a large library of coded solutions to common programming problems and a virtual machine that manages the execution of programs written specifically for the framework. The .NET Framework is a Microsoft offering and is intended to be used by most new applications created for the Windows platform. The framework's Base Class Library provides a large range of features including user interface, data access, database connectivity, cryptography, web application development, numeric algorithms, and network communications. The class library is used by programmers, who combine it with their own code to produce applications. Programs written for the .NET Framework execute in a software environment that manages the program's runtime requirements. Also part of the .NET Framework, this runtime environment is known as the Common Language Runtime (CLR). The CLR provides the appearance of an application virtual machine so that programmers need not consider the capabilities of the specific CPU that will execute the program. The CLR also provides other important services such as security, memory management, and exception handling. The class library and the CLR together constitute the .NET Framework. Version 3.0 of the .NET Framework is included with Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. The current stable version of the framework, which is 3.5, can also be installed on Windows XP and the Windows Server 2003 family of operating systems.[2] Version 4 of the framework was released as a public beta on 20 May 2009.[3] The .NET Framework family also includes two versions for mobile or embedded device use. A smaller version of the framework, the .NET Compact Framework, is available on Windows CE platforms, including Windows Mobile devices such as smartphones. Additionally, the .NET Micro Framework is targeted at severely resource constrained devices. moreResolved Question: I need this translated to french.?
Informatics is a subject that focuses mainly on preparing its students for higher education, these educations all lay in the same field of interest, which is basically working with computers and everything linked to it. Our main courses are all based around working with a computer and learning how it works. We have a practical course called TISY in which we learn how a computer and networks are assembled. Next to that we have a course based around programming on a computer, this is called TIPR. And finally we have a course which teaches us how to work with all the common software; this varies from software such as Microsoft Word to programming web applications. Now I shall explain these courses a little further, especially our main two courses from this package, which are TIPR and TISY. TIPR focuses around the use of Visual Basic Developer, which allows users to create a user interface for their own program and link code to it. In my opinion this is a very hard course, because you need to have a lot of insight to be able to create your programs the best possible. Also you have to test out these programs which itself is also hard, cause you never know what another user might input; if he inputs something wrong and the program crashes it will put you in a bad light. So you have to anticipate all of these flaws in your program and direct the user for the most effective way to work with your program. Our second main course is TISY, also referred to as System Management. Here we learn to understand how each of the individual parts of a computer work and how those parts are put together to the computer we can see. Please help me out! TIPR and TISY are course names, so please don't translate those. ^_^ moreVoting Question: which life cycle? and why?

I think this supposedly single paragraph is too long. Is it? If it is, where should I start a new paragraph. I ask this because if I start a new paragraph on every new idea that I talk about, I will have many very short paragraphs. Thanks for reading! The operating system is a software interface that allows communication between applications and hardware. As such, it basically manages the activities and resources of a computer. It is responsible for program execution, memory management, multitasking, disk and peripheral access, and networking, security, and the Graphical User Interface (GUI). For example, when you first start up a program, the operating system allocates free memory space in RAM for it, and then loads it into the free memory space. As for memory management, the operating system either makes sure that memory currently in-use does not get interfered by other programs, or that it is available to other programs for data sharing. The ability to handle to multitasking is crucial when running multiple programs. The reason is that computers can only run a few programs at a time, limited by its number of CPU cores. So the operating system must manage the time and order that programs have access to the CPU for execution. Disk and peripheral access are made possible by device drivers of the OS. These device drivers act as translators between the OS and a device’s specific language. For networking, the OS takes care of networking by supporting the necessary network protocols, hardware, and programs for sharing resources such as files, printers, and scanners. In this case, the OS on the receiving end of a request for resource-sharing accepts or denies the request. Security is a big responsibility for the OS since it manages activities and resources by providing access. It is handled by a user’s identity of a username and password during logon. Furthermore, when an identity is accepted, based on the identity, there may be certain program and resource restrictions, especially on a multi-user machine with private files. An OS also has a built-in firewall for detecting and preventing programs access. Lastly, the GUI, only related to the OS through integration and not purpose, allows user to computer interaction through graphics such as windows, menus, icons, tabs, and a mouse pointer. moreVoting Question: will out of date drivers effect performance. with a graphic card.?

What is the difference between those two? I'm leaning toward Industrial and I really want to work with computers but I'm just worried about the job outlook on it. What careers can you get for both? moreVoting Question: Help finding an IT job with a college degree?

I recently received a pre-hacked Wii system and I'm having connection problems - it simply refuses to connect to the network (everything else works fine, including my iTouch, laptops, and desktops). Apparently, I've been informed that hacked Wii's cannot connect to the internet (is this true?) - and if so, how do I fix this problem (either by unhacking/restoring the Wii or something else). I do believe the Wii is hacked correctly for the most part; however, Homebrew Channel cannot access the internet (obviously) - I'm just generally in doubt about my course of action at this point. I've been informed that erasing Homebrew through Data Management will "unhack" the Wii; however, I've also been informed that I need to format the entire system's memory in order to restore the Wii. Is there a way to get an online connection going without unhacking (uninstalling Homebrew) or do you have to format the system memory completely? Thanks in advance. moreResolved Question: Can my PC Run Killing Floor?

I live in Winnipeg, MB. I have been fairly set on going to Red River College for their Business Information Technology program, to get my Information Systems Tech. diploma (likely majoring in Network Management or Database Administration) Recently, I have started considering university, as well. I know employers seem to prefer degrees to a diploma, so the *obvious* choice in this circumstance would be university. However -- I have been in school already for 12 years of my life. Is another 4 (or more!) really worth it? I'm very well-versed when it comes to things like networking, server administration, etc. Red River college can have me trained and into the IT workforce in 2 years -- The *minimum* for other programs would be 4. On the other hand, computers have ALWAYS been my passion -- I have always taken a huge interest things like networking, enterprise-level IT operations, etc. I wouldn't consider myself a science-y person, but perhaps a Bachelors or Masters degree is just the thing for me? moreResolved Question: i am thinking of buying a new computer and do not know really what is good or not?

The network is a routed TCP/IP LAN. Some of the current network servers are shown. The servers are as follows: •Serv1—Domain controller •Serv2—Domain controller and DNS •Serv3—Domain controller •Gen1—File and print server •Gen2—File and print server Figure 1 shows the logical network organization. Physically, all servers are kept in the same secure room. The network supports approximately 90 hosts, including servers. Figure 1: Routed LAN 1.The network was configured as a routed LAN without completely considering network requirements. You are considering combining the subnetworks. What is the main network characteristic that you must consider before doing this and why? 2.Other than removing the routers and physically connecting the central connection devices, what would the change require? 3.What is the most likely impact on the network if Serv2 fails? 4.How can you minimize the potential problems? 5.If you were deploying a single DHCP server for the network, where would you place it to minimize overall network traffic and why? 6.What if you were deploying two DHCP servers? Part B: Demand-dial configuration The questions in Part B refer to the configuration shown in Figure 2. The network is a routed TCP/IP LAN. It is also configured as a Windows Active Directory domain. Some of the current network servers are shown. The servers shown are as follows: •Serv1—Demand-dial router •Serv2—Demand-dial router •Serv3—Demand-dial router Currently, connections between each subnet are made over the public-switched telephone network (PSTN) using dial-up modems. Each server is configured with one modem. Access permissions are configured so that access to print and file servers is limited to hosts on the same subnet. Figure 2: Demand-dial network 1.What are the biggest concerns in relation to communication between subnets? 2.You are planning to deploy a domain controller in each subnet. Justify this decision. 3.What traffic will be required between the subnets? 4.Each subnet’s NetBIOS name resolution requirements are for the local subnet only. What do you need to do to support name resolution while keeping traffic and administrative requirements to a minimum? Part C: Heterogeneous network The questions in Part C refer to the configuration shown in Figure 3. The network is a routed TCP/IP LAN. Some of the current network servers and clients are shown. The computers shown are as follows: •Linux1—Linux file server also used as a user workstation •Mac1—Mac OS X computer used primarily as a graphics and multimedia file server •Mac2—Mac OS X client used for commercial art and high-resolution graphics •Mac3—Mac OS X client used for commercial art, movies, and high-resolution graphics •Serv1—Windows Server 2003 file, print, and intranet web server •Serv2—Windows Server 2003 databaseI DONT FEEL LIKE STUDYING THIS BULLSHIT! Our products include: trusted server, trusted disk storage system, direct attached storage system (DAS), trusted firewall, SVN, UTM, HIS, EMS, digital rights management system-digital watermarking, CA authorization and automated remote network security testing system, etc. There is a selling point among these products: trusted. Trusted technology is put forwarded by TCG(trusted computing group with its TPM(trusted platform management)idea which specifically is an security measure by inserting a hardware-based encrypting chip into the compute system or network system and is the fundamental way of network security solutions rather than software based solutions in the surface. The basic parts of our products keep identical as those of famous brands, for example, Xeon CPU. The features of our trusted products are as below: ★ Identity Authentication: using CA and PKI technology and having authority to issue digital certificate. ★ Authorization: only identified and authenticated computers can be authorized with the service of the trusted server. ★ Recording: ability to record the activities of each of its login computers, either working dependently or together with a log server. ★ Encryption: encryption of the sensitive system data to secure the system operation. ★ Disaster recovery: backup of the data in the hardware and make a copy after the damage in a auto-start way. Right now we have some wankers with 512 MB, 1 and some 2GBs RAM, but most are Pentium 3s-4s. I'd rather we get beefier than we need than to come up short!! Also, I know we'll need good graphics cards (soundcards not so important to us), but also the monitors (dual, 1 portrait and 1 landscape) are going to be important. We're not yet ready to go Windows 7, as most of our software is not ready yet (software companies don't have updates out yet). Don't know if viable to upgrade existing computers---I'm guessing we may as well go new. What do you guys think? Ideas/thoughts appreciated! Many thanks. moreVoting Question: I need to know of the 2 computers are better?

yea, im not really a health freak or anything but want to go into this subject a bit more than ones natural and the others chemically made and blah blah. i want to know which is better to take it, i would think sugar. and i want to know the bads of both. i remember i took a cooking class in high school and my teacher told me that using a lot of sugar can essentially ruin the tongue of its other (4?) tastes (the tongue becomes dull to the other tastes of bitter, sour, etc, parts of the tongue recognizes the different tastes of the food we eat) and make it so sugar is more recognized and so you end up using more sugar to get the sweet taste each time. and i remember being told not to have too much stuff w/ high fructose syrup, idk... i guess cause it's chemical vs natural. but i love soda... and during my stay in college im trying not to drink as much soda but the juices are concentrate and so sugar... (dilemma...) but the things is (reasons why i want to ask this question). i watch food network and they don't seem to be against hfs (high fructose syrup, im being lazy) and in one of the shows (where they show you how they make w/e candy or something) they say they use hfs because it has a sweeter taste than sugar. and remember that commercial that was out less than a year ago. (something like) a mom giving a boys soccer team or something drinks that contained hfs and another mom saying "you know what they say about hfs?" "what?" "(silence)" ending with commercial saying "know your fact" i was like wtf?? cause i think that commercial is kind of fault or deceiving http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEbRxTOyGf0 oops i mean hfcs (forgot c for corn) am i kinda right? wrong? thoughts/feelings? i think hfcs is like going to be the next msg or something, and i know that the food network has to support it since so many foods are made up with hfcs and we have no choice but to trust the food industry and management and care, packaging, etc cause that's our system and way of living for most people (everyday average american). it's inevitable to avoid both sugar and hfcs. everybody's got to eat a cookie :) moreVoting Question: Is network systems administration a job in high demand?
