Sirius Satellite Radio Receivers Questions asked

Resolved Question: Are there any car stereo receivers with Sirius (NOT ready)?

Many new cars have satellite radio built in. I am trying to find an aftermarket CD receiver with Sirius built in (NOT Sirius ready!!!). Are there any??? more

Resolved Question: Anyone know how XM radio works?

Anyone know how XM radio works on a technical data stream level? I have XM radio in my car and it is pretty amazing... When you go under a bridge, you lose the satellite signal and if you stay under there long enough the audio will quit playing. If you pass quickly, it never misses anything. So they have to buffer the audio so it keeps going when you pass under fast enough. How do they do that? The data stream has to have some kind of redundant data that is delayed so you can catch up and some method to refill the buffer, otherwise after a number of bridges, it would fail. Also, when you change channels, it is almost instant, so it can't be too far behind. Is the audio all on one data channel, with the receiver only switching to a different audio data sub-stream or does the receiver switch data streams? If one, I guess they could buffer the whole stream to switch channels quickly. Oh, now that they've merged, is Sirius the same? Any ideas? mcb more

Resolved Question: Where to find classical jazz on the net?

I am looking for internet radio stations where I can find both classical jazz, such as Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, and so on, As well as regular, classical music, such as Bach, Mozart, Brahms, etc. I am looking for a station which will not limit my usage time, or charge a huge fee, for access. I have, already, tried that piece of junk, which is called Sirius Satellite Radio, and let me just say this: Even after I told their customer service people **5** times, that their receiver was faulty, they remained insistent that they could do NOTHING, until I accessed their devices program menu. Everytime I told them that the radio would not access the menu, all they would say was: Sir, until you access the menu, we will not help you. This is why I am looking for round-the-clock stations, which provide plenty of classical music, and others which provide round-the-clock Jazz. Please note that any radio station (broadcast) stations, must be within 40 miles of Springfield Illinois. Internet suggestions can be anywhere. Any suggestions? more

Resolved Question: Sirius satellite radio problems. (west coast specific?)?

I live in Washington state. And I own a Sirius model S50 satellite radio receiver. I have my radio set to record the Howard Stern show every morning, from 3AM to 8:30AM. So when I wake up, I can listen to the show at my leisure. Since April of this year, I have had a problem with the recorded part of the show that airs between 3AM and 4AM. Large portions of the show are missing. It is like something is blocking my antenna reception. And it always happens in the same time frame every morning. There is nothing blocking the antenna. And it is located on top of my house. So there is nothing passing in front of the antenna either. The rest of the day, my reception is completely clear. What are the odds that this problem is caused by solar flares? I honestly can not think of any other reason why my reception is broken up at that time of the morning. Does anyone else living on the West Coast experience reception problems in the very early morning? more

I understand that Toyota's come with Sirius antenna built in. Can I connect it's wire to my cradle and use it as an areal to receive Sirius signal / programs? Resolved Question: What is the best satellite radio antenna?

I have just bought (about 2 weeks ago), a Sirius Satellite Radio. For ten solid hours, after plugging it into current, all that the display showed (even with provided antenna) in my window, was "Acquiring Signal". Professional installers have told me that my living in an apartment building has nothing to do with the lack of signal, so long as the antenna is placed so it can see the sky. So far, three people have told me that my receiver is, probably, defective, and that I should return it. What I want to try, first, is the most powerful, amplified, antenna, that I can find. Would an extremely powerful, amplified, FM antenna aid my satellite radio in connecting with signals? Would the Terk FM-50 antenna work with this device, or should I go to a much more powerful antenna. I am considering a trade, with the store, where I bought this radio, but I also want to know if a powerful antenna would compensate for weak signals? Any suggestions? more

Resolved Question: Slightly lengthly satellite radio question...?

Ok I had Sirius service while back, but cancelled it year or so later. I since moved and when I unpacked my old receiver and hooked it up, I was still getting service so I shut my mouth and took advantage. Problem is, my receiver is old now and is failing me so I was wondering, if I get a new receiver do I have to set it up with Sirius again and jeopardize my free service or will it just switch service from the old unit to the new? Btw, I don't mind paying for it if I have to, but I just wanted to continue to take advantage of someone else's mistake lol. more

Resolved Question: Sirius sattelite radio signal?

I just installed a new sirius receiver in my car, the stratus 6. I am getting pretty good satellite signal, but am lacking the necessary terrestrial signal, which reads 0 on the display. this is causing me to get poor reception and the signal fades out a lot. Is there a way to get good reception without buying another adapter and having it installed professionally? i really dont want to pay another 100 bucks. more

Resolved Question: Questions about satellite radio. XM or Sirius?

I am looking to buy my husband satellite radio for his car for Xmas. I have never owned it before and I know NOTHING about it. I do not want to spend more than $200. Here are the details: He has an older car, therefore the receiver part would have to plug in to the lighter. He really likes sports radio and classic rock. I would like the receiver part to be portable (not sure if thats possible) so he can plug into our home stereo. My question is, is XM the way to go or Sirius, and is this possible for $200 or less? Also, would Best Buy be the best place to go? Thanks for ANY info on this.lol. See, I told you I knew nothing about it! I didn't even know it was the same company! more

Resolved Question: What do I need to hook up satellite radio?

I have a satellite ready head unit and I would like to get Sirius Satellite radio, but I am not sure what I need. Sirius and XM satellite radio? It is possible to access free Satellite Radio like Sirius or XM once you have a receiver or like me a ready A/V receiver Onkyo that only needs the small device to connect in the rear. Resolved Question: What is the best way to get Satellite radio for me?

I drive a 2003 Hyundai Elantra with a Kenwood in-dash stereo system. It is capable of playing wma/mp3 files from a USB drive, along with basic AM/FM radio and CD player. I don't want to change this device, but I want to listen to satellite radio programs in my car. It says "Sirius ready" and "HD ready" on it, but I'm not sure what that means. I'm not picky about the carrier of satellite radio, and it doesn't have to be *live* satellite radio -- I'm not opposed to downloading things from my computer at home onto my USB drive and listening to them later in the car, but I don't know if that's possible or convenient. Does anyone out there have experience with some products and/or services that they might be able to recommend that would fit well into my setup? I'd like to know what you think is the most cost-effective. One more thing, if it involves a portable receiver with an FM transmitter, that transmitter MUST be digital and I'd like to know that it works decently. I've used too many of those things that are just horrible. Thanks in advance for your help. Thanks for your answer, I do appreciate it. I should clarify -- there is a USB plug sticking out of my dash, where I can plug in a regular flash drive (not an MP3 player) with MP3 files on it, and it will play the MP3s over my car stereo. So, there is an MP3 player inside this stereo system. I don't have something I can plug a headphone jack into (as much as I would like that, I don't want to spend the money on a new stereo system just for that) so if I were to use this capability I would need to be able to download mp3 or wma files for radio programs in order to play them in my car. more

Resolved Question: Removing Satellite Radio from my Car?

I don't want to pay $100 to get satellite radio (Sirius) removed from my car. It is a lease return and I was just thinking of removing it myself by snipping the wires connected to the Receiver and then tucking them back down the vent. Good idea? Asking for trouble? Its a 2005 Honda Pilot - its mounted in the front dash through the right main vent. Thank you for your help more

Resolved Question: Why is a 'dead' radio frequency needed to listen to satellite radio?

To listen to a satellite radio station, you must have your FM radio set to a 'dead' station that isn't actively broadcasting. Why is this? As technology-savvy as the world is, I would think Sirius/Xm could build a receiver that could operate on any frequency and 'kill' the actual radio station's broadcast. more

Resolved Question: Is there anyway to install a satellite radio in my 2003 G35 without the $600 factory receiver?

Best buy says no but I never really trusted their audio guys. I mean can I hook up the XM or Sirius receivers and hook it up to the factory deck that I supposedly can't replace as well due to it being connected to the whole climate control interface? This is frustrating especially since my CD player doesn't work and Infinity says that will be $400. more

Resolved Question: Why did I suddenly stop getting a good Sirius signal after 2.5 yrs?

I have had my antenna in the same East facing window in Tempe, AZ for almost 3 years now. For the last few months I have had it cut out for hours on end with no satellite signal. I don't even move the antenna. Lately the last couple of weeks it cuts out completely at approximately the same time every day. It's always between 1:30pm and 2:00 pm and it doesn't come back at all for hours. I have been on the phone with Sirius over this many times. One time they told me it was my antenna that was broken. So I ordered a new one. Nope. Not it. I find it suspicious that it happens at exactly the same time every day. Anyone have any ideas? I just don't think it's my radio. I have no problem in my car with the receiver. I thought maybe it was because by that time of day the box and receiver were heated up. So yesterday I left it off all morning long and just before 2pm I put it in the box and turned it on. Same thing. No signal. As I said, there are no obstructions. My window is higher than any trees in the area and there are no buildings. This is Arizona and we don't have those problems here too much. It's not the receiver because it works in the car. It also works all day until this time. The antenna is a Sirius clamshell indoor antenna. I just bought it brand new and there are absolutely no frays in it. more

Resolved Question: Question for Sirius satellite radio users??

On saturday I purchased the Clarion SIRCL3, so I can get sirius satellite radio, but the damn keeps going in and out, saying that it is aquiring signal. It is almost unusable. I took it back to the installer, and he moved the attenna. By the time I got 2 blocks away from the shop, it cut in and out 8 times. I called the shop back, and they said that it was because I was in a tree line. Well, in California there is nothing but trees on the side of the roads. He told me to see how it works while on the freeway. I can't imagine that sirius is supposed to work like that, so I can't listen to it on the streets? I just have to use it on the freeway? that doesn't make any sense. He said that if it still doesn't work good, they will switch out the receiver. Is this normal?? more

I did, and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions as to what I do now? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: sirius satellite radio in 2005 Grand Cherokee?

I have Sirius sat radio but the reception of my Jeep car radio is pathetic ( this bad radio can't even pick up well enough the signal from the tiny sat receiver/sender inside my car). SO I need something with which I can connect the sat receiver with the radio directly. However, all the stuff that best buy/sirius sell (relay adapters etc) is not compatible with my freakin Jeep car radio crap. Any thought on what to do-- other than cancelling the sirius service or getting rid of the car? Thanks! more

Resolved Question: (why) do i have to use the sirius home docking station to connect to a satellite ready home theater receiver?

I'm in the process of purchasing both a sirius satellite radio and a satellite ready home theater system. I'm just not sure if i need to also purchase a sirius home docking station to connect the two. Why exactly is it a satellite ready theater receiver if i need a satellite docking station to make it work? thank you for any info. more

Resolved Question: Best car cd receiver w/ipod, hdradio, sat-radio ready?

I'm looking for a new car CD receiver that has the following capabilities: HD Radio (preferred to be built-in) plays iPod (and controls volume from stereo rather than from ipod) satellite radio ready has inputs for subwoofers and NO fold-down face, but straight CD slot. in the price range of $139-179 or so. I'd prefer it to have a black background display with white letters/numbers rather than a blue background. Also would prefer it to have an aux input in the front for hooking up ipod, sat radio, etc. as I have both an ipod and a Sirius plug n' play unit I'd like to use with it. prefer kenwood, apline, JVC, Blaupunkt, pioneer thanks all! more

Resolved Question: If XM satellite Radio and SIRIUS satellite radio merge together would I be able to listen to both of them?

I am currently a SIRIUS subscriber from Detroit, Michigan. If SIRIUS and XM merge together would I be able to go to the store and buy an XM receiver and have it activated and be able to listen to XM on my XM receiver and listen to SIRIUS on my SIRIUS receiver and still pay the subscription price of $12.95 per month for both services combined together? more
